Puerto Rico es muy bonito, la gente es muy cálida. Todos te saludan y te dicen “papi” o “mami” de cariño, jajaja.
@mjz165 жыл бұрын
Miguel H. Indeed. But kinda weird, ‘til you get used to it at least. How I grew up, you save “papi” “mami” “mi amor”, etc, for the closest people to you bf/gf. It seems somewhat less significant when everyone is saying to literally, everyone they come across. Perhaps there are other more intimate terms reserved for actual bf/gf? If anyone knows or can share... :)

Thank you so much for doing these videos. My husband and i went to Puerto Rico from Oct to Dec of 2018. We stayed on the north east side of the island in Luquillo. Most of our day trips were to Fajardo and we took the ferry from Ceiba to Flamenco/Culebra island. We also visited the west side of the island, and we were on that very same beach that you are. We fell in love with the island. I do feel i should warn you, my husband is an Indiana native who used to vacation in Minnesota. Before our trip, he could stand outside in 20 degree weather in shorts, after our trip, sweats come on at 50 degrees. So it might break your ability to withstand frigid temps. Saying all that, we have fallen in love with the island and we are looking to live more long term in Puerto Rico. Your videos are so very helpful. I believe we have looked at staying at the same condo's you appear to be staying in. I'm interested to see what you are going to do about a car. We are up in the air about it. Should we ship one of our own? (a cost of about $2500) or just try to find one for sale on the island.

From personal experience and years of going there. For the most part, Boquerón is really similar to sturgis, most of the year its pretty quiet and laid back but once semana santa hits its non stop parties in el poblado with free concerts all over the place. I miss mi isla and cant wait for my son to be older to take him to see where daddy grew up. This video brought back way too many hreat and fun memories of jet skiing in boqueron, and off roading through the mountains to get to a different spot on the beach. Also ridong the jet skis to neighboring combate and even to la parguera. I hope you enjoy boqueron as much as i did when we lived in Puerto Rico.

Good vid. I went to Puerto Rico in March 2017, before Hurricane Katrina. I was very fortunate because I had a host from the island who drove me around and took me to their house for a party. That's the best way to get around if you're not fluent in Spanish. I suggest that if you're learning Spanish, take 2 years of courses then go to P.R. to practice. I may go back when the time is right. God Bless P.R.

If you haven’t done so yet, visit Humacao in the South East side of the Island. I grew up between Humacao and my family’s hometown of Las Piedras, and the foothills of El Yunque in Naguabo. If you like Surullos you might like “Granitos” from Humacao. You might be able to make them on your own, but they’re only actually made for sale in Humacao and some places in Las Piedras, Yabucoa and Naguabo. It’s a “regional” thing like some of the other recipes from the island. Granitos are basically a fried rice stick with a piece of cheddar in the middle, more for looks than taste. The Granitos are grounded down rice that’s cooked and then rolled into its shape, fried in lard (I know it’s a cardiologist nightmare, but that’s what a lot of PR food is! Hahahaha!), and eaten for breakfast with coffee. It’s like “Pegao” or burned bottom of the pan rice. ¡¡Ricooooo!! They only make and sell them during certain days and only in the early morning, in Humacao you can usually see the vendors little lite green wooden carts around the middle of town and the immediate outskirts, but rarely anywhere else. They usually sell out before 10:00AM. The vendors are usually on the streets by 5:00-5:30AM. Someone from the family that makes them recently moved to Kissimmee, FL and has begun to sell them in a Puerto Rican bakery there, which is apparently the only other place that you might find Granitos outside of Humacao, unless you make them yourself. Besides the Granitos there’s a lot of things to do in the Humacao area, so it’s worth the visit. Palmas Del Mar is an awesome place to stay. We usually get an Airbnb and take off traveling from there, hitting Humacao early to get the Granitos because we’re addicted to them! I believe that they take Sundays and Mondays off, but you can call them at (787) 852-0772, to verify and here is a recipe in case you want to give it a try, but trust me, it’s worth the trip to get them in town. They also make them ready to cook at home. We’ve actually taken some to even Germany when I was stationed there.

Part of the places where you folks are going through used to be sugarcane fields. Now they are condominiums. I used to trap jueyes (land crabs) with molasses.

Seems like paradise! And WOW those waters are spectacular. How easy is it to get used to the accent?
@SpanishandGo6 жыл бұрын
We're loving it here! The PR accent has to be in the top three most difficult to understand for Spanish. I'm still getting used to it, but it just helps to be prepared to know what to listen for. Rs are often pronounced as Ls, Ss get dropped off, and there's a lot of Spanglish. It's always fun to learn differences like that though. ¡Saludos! -Jim
@wilfredosoto27225 жыл бұрын
Spanish and Go The accent is unique to PRicans! It’s often referred to as “sung” instead of spoken. “Dímelo cantando!” Is a common phrase that exemplifies not only the accent and nuances of Puerto Rican’s dialect, it’s practically it’s “Soul”. There’s nothing sadder to many Puerto Rican’s than listening to a drab speaker. And the Spanglish, although not unique to PR anymore, was started by PRicans because of our dual culture (US and Spain) and the use of Anglicism in our language. It’s hilarious because it’s one of the most recognized accents in the Spanish world, along with the Argentine and very Spanish Gallego. Being raised partially in Texas and still having some of that in my English is similar, but when I transition to full blown Puerto Rican, people sometimes are left speechless! ¡Cojanlo suave, pero cojanlo! ¡Jajajaja!

Wow! Fortunately, we haven’t seen any of that here. It’s very quiet and laid back. Definitely worth checking out if you ever get a chance. Thanks for watching! ¡Saludos! -Jim

Just found your channel. About to visit PR soon! Are you only using your GoPro to record sound?

Usually we use external mics when we record with our GoPro, but I don’t think we used our lavaliere mics at all for this video. You can see all of our gear at the link in our description. Thanks for watching, Shawna! Hope you enjoy Puerto Rico. Where do you plan to visit during your trip? Cheers! -Jim
