We're leaving Kerala - an emotional goodbye to our Indian dream life

We moved to Kerala towards the end of 2019 right after our marriage. It was going to be the first house we would be living together as a married couple. Soon after we moved to our house in a small village in the north of Kerala, the lockdown happened. This meant that we got to spend some quality time together and create a lot of memories. And not just memories, we also welcomed our daughter Annika into this world in our idyllic surroundings. It was therefore quite sad to leave all this behind and move to a much bigger city like Mumbai. All the memories from our life came flooding and it was a very emotional goodbye for us all...

We Malayalis say once we step out of Kerala then we realise its true value. But "we leave home to make home". Its ok. Kerala is always your home. Who knows probably you will buy a retirement home here in future. Till then work hard and enjoy.

I saw sweet Annika turns into an aggressive child. She is very small, but she hurts her mother's arm by biting and squeezing. This behaviour mustn't be ignored because she is very little. The video made me emotional as well, but Annika's bad temper must be tamed. Montaigne' essays mention about this kind of behaviour. Good luck with your new place.

One couldn't get a more strong contrast in living environments. One the one hand you have the quiet Ezhimala Naval Academy with its stunning greens and views , the unpolluted air and the less frenzied, less hurried,less expensive,more space, more quiet and more content way of life. On the other hand we have one of the most populous bustling cities in the world, constantly full of traffic,movement,sounds,sights and let's not forget smells 😂.The big city Mumbai comes with conveniences and creature comforts but you also only see concrete,glass and urban squalor with stark contrasts in living standards between rich and poor. Life is more mechanical, everyone seems to be in a rush and placing more importance on the material . The invisible hand of fate moves in strange ways...Sometimes it feels like we're not in control of where we're heading...That is when moving feels more like uprooting...
@JohannaNorth
@JohannaNorth 3 ай бұрын
It’s a huge change for sure, and uprooting is quite accurate of a word to describe it. Kerala still feels more like home to be honest. We don’t have a permanent house yet in Mumbai so maybe the sentiment of home will come with that. 😊

This video has brought out every single emotion I could think of...i became a subscriber when I was doing random searches during my 17 days isolation with covid in the very initial wave here in the States.. if I recall I was trying to find out which area of the world might be a better place to live in if the covidl thing continues unabated.. so I started searching knowing Finland was the happiest country I said Indians in Finland.. and Google magic brought me to Finns in India.. the rest, as they say, is history. :-) Best to Annika as always.. are we still waiting for Vinod's vlog where he speaks fluent Finnish😂?! And I forgot to add, very very classy editing...

That’s some pretty spectacular magic from Google considering we Finns are not that many here in india! Ohhhhhh Johanna, Today i am sitting by Tirthan River and watched your vlog at the riverside in a cafe. Not cafe hp49 though as i got off thr bus at the wrong stop and then couldnt find the cafe 🙈 WOW what a move. Indian people have told me that even they cant adjust brilliantly to different places in India and therefore its even more difficult for people like you and me who have come from overseas to make such adjustments. ❤ How are you currently managing the adjustment process dear? I left Karnataka one month ago (i lived on a beach there). And you know the situation on the Banjar roads. And my new place is actually on the traffic jam bend and its horrific to be honest with you. Im leaving tomorrow as its too difficult here with the climbs and noise. Yes its necessary to experience these things in order to access the paradise of Tirthan national park, the river, laida village and Jalori pass. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hope you’ve been enjoying tirthan valley nonetheless! Has the monsoon reached there yet? I’d be scared to be there during rainy season, to be honest. I think the adjustment to Mumbai will be a lengthy process. We could’ve chosen a better location to live in, but there’s been some other issues too, unrelated to relocating, which have slowed down the adjustment process even more

@@JohannaNorth ohhhhhhh noooooo Johanna I'm so sorry to hear that re your current location and other issues that have slowed things down. That sucks. Oh Johanna you are braver than me. I couldn't live in Mumbai. I can't even live in Banjar never mind Mumbai!!!!!!! I'm leaving Banjar tomorrow because the roads are horrific and monsoon is coming now dear. Sadly I met some really mean people today (tourists from New Delhi). They said they didn't like me because I'm British and the British created too many bad things, and they also said they don't care about the effects that the roads have on the local people of Himachal. In the end I told them to shut up because they were being tactless in front of the people of Himachal and also in front of me. I'm so fed up of the New Delhi tourism in the Himalayas. If anyone from New Delhi is reading this... I want you to know that i dont tar everyone with the same brush. I'm 100 percent sure that very nice people are also from New Delhi.unfortunately it's the silly tourists who are not behaving and giving New Delhi a bad name

Hi Johanna sis... How are you doing..?(how hard to leave a place like Kerala home..how much days it's take you too recover from that transition..?) My personal experience: *(Five years back we also used to leave in a home for more than 13 years when we finally decided to move to new home we vacated our house and everything my family moved into new house..after that i couldn't leave my old home.. I was stayed there almost a week alone in that home.. I don't have heart to leave from my old house.. It was not only a house for me...personally I grown up there and my memories always going around the house❤)*

The adjustment is still in process! It’s been rather challenging, though other issues have probably prolonged it. Thanks for sharing your experience! 🙏
