I genuinely appreciate you being candid about money. I think it's important for us all to remove the stigma around money so that it can be less taboo and make others feel comfortable talking about it. I like to have a realistic idea of prices no matter the context. Keep up the good work. Your videos are a breath of fresh air and you stand out amongst others because of your honesty.

I think the secrecy of money is common among the UK and ancestors. I’m an American, but haven’t lived in North America for many, many years. It seems that the non-English speaking cultures I’ve lived in readily talk AND ASK about money! Salaries, rents, payments, costs……nothing is off the table. EXCEPT bank balances. “How much do/did you pay for…” is a very common question here in Ecuador.

Like many people I watch youtuber content because it initially seems like something I would be intetested in i.e house decor or renovations. However what keeps me as a subscriber is the authenticity and relatable nature of the people making the content. This is why I love this channel - its down to Ash and Chad and their journey. Love the eclectic mix of content and blether (nod to Chad's homeland!). Please don't change! ❤

I'm an ex Londoner and now live close to NYC, in New Jersey. When I left London in 1998, homes in my neck of the woods, (NW London), were selling for around 89k. What's happened with your house prices is insane! I could never afford to return! In America, when a house first comes onto the market, the realtors host what's called an 'open day'.. This is when anyone can just walk into the house and view it. It is so much fun to do, that me and my husband continue to go to these open houses in the spring/summer, even though we are not looking to move. The agents put up little signs outside the homes and you can just stop your car and walk in. The voyeur in me is so grateful for this U.S practice! Chad, I'm glad you're willing to discuss the financials- it is fascinating! Ash, if you ever come to the U.S, you'll be mistaken for someone out of the Downton Abbey cast!

In the U.K. estate agents need to Vet clients before viewing for the estate agent’s safety. In London in 1994 Ms Lamplugh an estate agent had left her office to meet a prospective client known only as "Mr Kipper" to view a flat. She was never seen again, and "Mr Kipper" was never identified. Ms Lamplugh's car, a white Ford Fiesta, was later found abandoned in Fulham. She was officially declared dead, presumed murdered.
@sugarbomb26

@Shining-Star- Yes, I remember that awful case as I hadn't emigrated till a few years later. Here, the agents only make you sign in at an 'open day' with your name, phone number and agents name. These 'open days' are crawling with viewers, that the agents are never alone. In a big city like London, I understand the safety concerns...

"No house is perfect. There's always something you have to compromise on." So true, Ash! I have a 50 year-old, two-bedroom with very little storage and no back garden (only a patio) in Phoenix. It's about 75 square meters. I have ONE kitchen drawer, LOL. I have spent a fortune on necessary replacements, but the home had good bones, no leaks, and is in a beautiful neighborhood only five miles from downtown. Every home has good things about it, and every home can be loved by someone out there. Choosing a home is all about weighing the good and the bad and prioritizing what's important to the person.

Great video!! Just as I was pretending “wonder what it’d take for us to leave Atlanta, Georgia, USA to move to London “ you gave the price. I appreciate the transparency. It’s amazing the similarities between the States and London. The prices for a certain zip code, investors buying up properties, and the realization that sometimes you’ll pay an insane amount just to get into the neighborhood even if the house needs to be totally renovated just for safety. Also I’m with Chad on the loud eating and blowing noses at the table. At that point I’m done with dinner!🤢😂🤣

Really like this chatty relaxed long video that feels like you are chatting with us directly as friends just catching up in your kitchen. I put it on in the background while making dinner and it was really nice. The nice thing is also that we are in the same boat of "loving your current house, but also love to continuously design, and now looking for your forever home". So these conversations you two are having feel very relatable.

Not bothered about a discreet nose blow, but people on mobiles who put their phone on loud speaker in public, windchimes, people who suck their fingers clean when eating, so you can hear it AAArgh! You could do wonders with the second house. I want that scottish bap, but needs a fried egg in it 😁.

I'm definitely a fan of "Kitchen Chat with Ash and Chad". I love that you both discuss all the details, prices etc. I don't live in a major city but I do understand the bubble prices that exist in them. 🤑🤑🤑 That first house with the 'dodgy estate' behind it? Run Far Far Away! 😱 You could tear down an entire house but you will never ever change its Location. That's just reality. Try to be best pals with realtors so that you are their first call when a house hits the market. We bought our current house as a 'pocket listing' - essentially before it was even listed.

Fab guys! Back in the day I used to renovate houses in London. Was very lucky that my partner then was a very talented carpenter and his business partner was an electrician - I did the design element. Back then there were far more Granny style deceased estates (Death, Divorce, Debt) with original features (usually covered in layers of lead paint - Oh the memories). We did homes in Islington, Stoke Newington & Highbury and were so lucky to get started with a bank loan (as he was a professional tradesman) as opposed to a mortgage - repaid on our first sale. We lived in them (I fell through a ceiling once) as we worked. Agree that first house would look very pretty renovated but looked like an absolute money pit. The glimpses of the second looked good but as you know you never know until you start ripping things away - even if you get a good building report done. Great you are taking your time to see what's out there & as Chad says - the difference between renovating for profit or as somewhere to live is key. There are some cities like London with their own economy re. real estate. I'm in Sydney now - it's the same. International investors turn up at auctions with suitcases of cash! (auctions here are how most properties sell as they get very competitive high bids as demand is so great). Best of luck, thanks for the great content - lovely seeing London and totally agree on the chewing/slurping/nose blowing ick! Loved Ash's initial tentative diplomacy on the macaroni pie 🤣 deep fried Mars Bar maybe???
