If you've seen the Mel Brooks comedy, History of the World Part 1, you might remember a scene where Brooks walks in on Jesus and his disciples during the last supper. Brooks, who is the waiter of the establishment, then asks if anyone wants soup and if they'll be paying together or on separate checks. Leonardo Devinci then comes in and asks if everyone will move over to the same side of the table because that will make it easier for him to paint the portrait. The movie watchers are then rewarded with a rendition of the Last Supper with Brooks standing directly behind Jesus. In my opinion, this whole scene was super funny but given that everything Brooks offered was the stuff of satire, I can see how Christians, especially Christians who take the Eucharist very seriously, could have been offended when the movie was released in 1981. I mention all of this because none of what was offered in the controversial scene at the Olympic ceremony was the stuff of satire - it was about inclusiveness. And if it is your opinion that drag queens and folks in the LGBTQ community are unworthy to participate in the Eucharist, then you're going to be offended no matter what.

The Lord's Supper should be taken by believers.

@@HearGodsWord , I absolutely agree all of the Christian religions should observe the Eucharist/Communion/Lord's Supper - whatever you want to call it. In my opinion, the most beautiful part of the ceremony is that it gives everyone a seat at the table not matter if you're rich, poor, black, white, gay, straight, republican or democrat. It's a tradition that perfectly embodies the essence of being inclusive and, in my opinion, should be open to anyone that wants to participate.
