I change stuff all the time. With struggling learners I can’t be married to one particular curriculum ever. Don’t apologize, you do what is best for your boys.

We've been using MFW since the beginning as well and are also changing things up this year! It's bittersweet because I LOVED it for the younger years and whether we ever go back to it or not it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Great video. Thanks for your honesty. We are all feeling the pinch of the economy and I'm glad to see you talking about it!

I honestly didn’t know that you not using MFW was a big deal - you don’t have to justify your homeschool choices! I just enjoy your videos! 🙂 That said, I’m glad you said that you loved MFW ECC. We are doing that this year, and I’m excited!

I know, but sometimes I feel pressured to. I get a LOT of comments and emails and DMs on social media about it whenever I switch. Sometimes I keep my switching a secret so I don't get the comments about why 😂

it's my first year homeschooling. I'll be using a bit of mfw, abeka, and tgatb. i like abeka the best so far.

One of the biggest things I have learned in this homeschool journey is that there are that seasons change. I initially almost had guilt when we changed this up, like I was cheating on a brand. But I have realized that needs and life change. Thank you for sharing.

23-24 was our first homeschooling year. We are finishing out with MFW but I am already switching to generations for science and history and then going with TBATB for math and LA. The following year might be different but I do know I will follow generations for science and history for the long haul.

You are giving me inspiration and permission to deviate from MFW, (which is my homeschool training wheels) if I want to try another curriculum at some point with my kiddos 😆. You go girl 🙂👍.

MFW is expensive. One of the ways I offset the cost of MFW is by using Christian Light Education for Math, Language Arts, and Reading. It is very cost effective, covers what they "need" to know, and it works well for us. We do all of our CLE first and save MFW, our "fun stuff", for last which my kids really look forward to. We also use IEW for writing with my 6th grader and love it! I love your videos. I can't wait to see how you get on with your new choices!
@hartleyfamily54512 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! That might be a good idea for us - to use MFW for the "fun" stuff. I REALLY like Christian Light also; solid curriculum that is very economical! From 4th grade on I use Abeka math (DVDs) which is has been worth every $ spent. Using The Good and the Beautiful language arts for the 1st time this year and very disappointed.... I REALLY wanted to love it. Have already started using a different spelling program (Spelling Power) and considering IEW which I have looked at for several years :) Do you use the IEW videos or teach it yourself? I am weighing the cost of IEW videos vs. the "cost" of how much of my time it would take to teach myself.

Im glad you have a plan that works for you and your boys that you are feeling great about! When influencers switch people get afraid what you previously used was a mistake. I don't think its a matter of curriculum working or not point blank. I think there are families that only use one company as a staple and its a pillar of their family. And then there's families like mine who use whatever works year to year whether or not thats because of differently wired kids, or personality or constantly changing lifestyle. I think when people get upset about others changing curriculum it is because it makes them scared and unsure about their own choices and those choices are already scary.

I think majority of families are in a tough financial spot this year. Due to inflation. I have had to be creative this year also because of price. Totally get it!

FIRST! I am so glad we found your channel, going on our 2nd year this year of homeschool! You're amazing. SECOND! Don't you worry about having to explain why or why not. Everyone goes through different seasons, prices this year are insane. But thanks for explaining 😀 Lookong forward to your next video!

I got MFW used bit by bit, and saved a little, only to turn around and need to order more than I realized. It ended up costing more.

I think it says a lot if you have students far above average learning levels. I love MFW as well but can see even if there's no reason at all to change-sometimes it's just for that reason alone anf that is ok!

I have used MFW recently and have a love/hate relationship with it. And NO it's not just you on having to hunt for each piece, missing pieces, and YES by the time you're done you've spent the exact amount as if you bought it new. ARGH!

I was really interested in MFW but couldn’t justify the price tag. Ending up pulling random curriculums together for this year.

It is pretty pricey. Some years I bought it used.

I’m in the same boat. I love MFW but the cost is pricey for us and having a hard time fitting it in our budget. I’m thinking about changing curriculum but I’m stuck. Hope you have a great year 😃🙏🏼

I know it’s been awhile since this video came out but I was wondering if it would be possible to use Abeka for 1st grade phonics and reading and using my Father’s World? I really want to do MFW Bible but not use their phonics or math. I love Abeka phonics but I want to use MFW.

Hi! im first time homeschool mom. i like mfw for bible and character but i want to purchase other subject from different companies. Do you think its still worth it to buy just the teacher and student manual? am I missing a lot of biblical connections to other subjects? thanks :)
@mandy-maltz3 ай бұрын
I'm very eclectic, so I do things like that all the time. You can always buy them used. I don't know how much biblical content you'd lose to be honest, but you can supplement whatever you need.
@lizaw.73132 жыл бұрын
How do you decide what they need to learn by grade level for instance in history? Last year was my first homeschool year and it was a little bit of a mess. We did but on native Americans a s some early American History. He will be in fourth grade and it very advanced like your son. Kind of lost.

i know you posted this a couple years ago, however you can always look up the standards for public schools in your state and base your homeschooling off that too!
@queenpeach78652 жыл бұрын
I don't know why people wouldn't respect your right to choose whatever curriculum you want to use to meet your children needs. It has always bother me that HS moms put that kind of pressure on HS youtube moms. I understand that some base some of their choices according to reviews but still no one should feel force to explain why they change.
@mandy-maltz2 жыл бұрын
YES! Sometimes I really feel the pressure. I think they get scared that I found something "bad" or something or there's animosity between the brand and I. That's almost never the case. If I change curriculum, it's almost always because it's something my kids needed.
