I don't think people outside of LA grasp how little any amount of prevention would have helped in this particular case. Wildfires have been a constant issue in California for as long as anyone can remember, but what people don't understand is how much of a once-in-a-generation "freak" event this is. This was a legit fire hurricane. Water ran out in certain neighborhoods because resources have never been stretched so thin like this. Millions of dollars worth of firefighting aircraft couldn't do anything in some of the most crucial hours of the fires, simply because the wind was too dangerous for them to fly in. Multiple fires cropped up at once due to the intensity and severity of the conditions, stretching resources even more. And for some of you telling Max to move, that's his own decision to make. People have made their whole lives in LA, and damn it, we love this town, warts and all. The amount of generosity and togetherness coming from all corners of the city makes me appreciate it more, and Angelenos want to fight for it, not run away from it. Armchair politics does not help in a time of such devastation, and a different mayor/governor (with all the problems I have with the current ones) would have made little to no difference in this particular instance. Glad y'all are safe Max.

2:20 That's how it works with eucalyptus. The leaves and bark carch fire, then they detach from the tree and the wind (caused by the fire) carries the burning leaves and bark to spread the fire. Eucalyptus evolved like that to get rid of any competition so they can grow unimpeded. Same happened here (Portugal) in 2017. It was literally raining fire. And the closest eucalyptus trees were like 150-200 metres away. More than 100 people died that year due to fire.

But if yu drop all that salt water on top and nothing grows back; that area on Earth is now uninhabitable. Yu saved a few homes by dropping in salt water to put the fire out? Great. Those homes are no longer inhabitable. They'll need to either be abandoned and/or demolished, because salt flats can't sustain life. If homes are going to be lost regardless, then better they're lost in a way that allows rebuilding. As Max said, salt water should only ever be used as an absolute *last resort* if no other water is available *and* air drops of containment powder aren't available. Because as soon as salt water is used, the area around it is now a wasteland forever more.

Its sad to see bad policy create a windstorm of problems. No water....thats terrible for a state at such high risk of fire.

I've been dealing with wildfire smoke basically annually for quite a while here in Colorado, along with some evacuation scares, so glad to see y'all are okay and that you're helping keep your neighbors *actually* informed. I'm sure a lot of people there know, but if anybody reading this doesn't know: if the smoke is bad at all, a face mask can really help you feel better when you have to go outside. Ideally it's like an N95 mask, but anything you can cover your face with helps me feel better when I can't get the quality stuff.

@@sethxtekken if they used ocean water to put out the fire, it would salt the Earth. Nothing would ever grow back there. You’re not very smart.

Living in Massachusetts, the winds were insane on our end. We had days that were close to 0º. It was so frigid, i had to wait til sunlight to get my car running because it was frozen solid. The coldest day yet. Last winter felt so warm, we had 40º days in january and by march we had roughly 60º days.

I live in LA. There’s going to be investigations on what went wrong. But there are no firefighters in the world that can fight 100mph winds. The richest neighborhood in the US burnt down. Couldn’t prevent that with all of the water in the Pacific. LA firefighters are S tier. Watching them save my neighborhood will never change my opinion.

@@BillyBoy-hr9rl You're a moron. Anyone hired needs to pass the CPAT which puts 50 pounds of extra weight onto your body the entire time and has simulated rescue tests with dead weight attached. @@BillyBoy-hr9rlAgreed. People really should use Social Media. Its just that you need to discern and really try to stay calm. Look for different news, and stop being so quick to judge a problem. Like, there's a reason why people use Social Media and NOT the MSM (Mainstream Media). Use the combination, and disaffect yourself from their lies, but listen to half of the truth. We are NOW in the truth era. Fear mongering is not effective as it was 10 years ago. Now, as far as the causes? It's man made. Homeless literally lit fires in some places, and some were arrested.

Just got back from town, and the roads were perfectly fine, just some water. But IDK if it's going to get cold enough tonight to freeze again.

I'm more surprised people are ignorant to how bad soil salinization affects not just an area but an entire eco system. Unless people want the soil in that area to be poisonous to most plant life or animals and insects in the ground that keep the soil healthy for years i guess they could use sea water for fires. Also, when it rains the salt from ocean water has to flow somewhere else if it's used far away from the ocean, so it would most likely flow towards nearby rivers or lake where people get drinking water and increase salt content which could also kill freshwater fishes which could starve people and animals that rely on those fresh water fish for food and this chain events goes on and on and on . . .
