This is so so awesome! I’m so happy for you both!! Just a little suggestion…. I own a B&M also and I carry furniture that we’ve redone, new and used decor and also I’m an elite dealer for Dixie Belle and wise owl paints. My concern is the check out stand being tucked in the way corner and you can’t really have a clear view of the front door if your behind the counter. All of the Info that I have received from Dixie belle and other company’s I sale for is to have a clear view of your front door always if your behind your check out stand. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Just an FYI. But I absolutely LOVE this space and I am so happy for you both. You guys are going to do amazing !

WOW! WOW! My head is swimming! Following you two is like being on a roller coaster!! You started off as a guy working in video and a teacher who needed to pay off a student loan to a full blown enterprise! I am so very, very excited for you both! The space is beyond perfect! The whole time Lauren was giving the big tour I was thinking “what about storing the furniture and the work space so you can ditch the storage unit…” and then bingo you showed us the work/storage space! I have got to find an excuse to get out to Nebraska to stay at the Airbnb and visit the store! This is definitely on my bucket list! You will need to really focus on flipping as much furniture as possible to keep up the store front. It will be fun thinking of creative ways to showcase the furniture. Congratulations!

My only caution with the open door between your workshop and showroom is the dust and odor. A lady in my town had a store that she also worked in and the smell and fumes knocked you over when you came in. I had to stop going there and she actually went out of business. I thinks she was so used to the paint fumes she didn't realize how strong the smell was.

Congratulations. I really hope the shops a great success. A couple of tips your pod cast room would be best in a small room without windows at the back of the property, easier to control sound. Any reception/sales desk needs good sight lines to the entry. Helps makes people feel welcomed if you can make eye contact and with security. The front small office that you were aiming for your podcast room might be good to sublet to a complimentary other business. That would give you a regular income and increased footfall. The large shopfloor open space needs dedicated pathways that encourage customers to walk around (ikea). The very best of luck. I look forward to watching.

As you know I hope, that I’ve been watching you guys for a while now, and I’m so proud of you guys on what you’re doing. I am 68 years old and I want you guys to know that what you are doing is more important than you might think. My point is that you didn’t let fear stop you, and you allowed yourself to grow slowly, and the simplicity of what you’re doing just takes studying and time. As someone who has managed retail stores, I must say that a back corner is never the ideal spot for a checkout. There is a reason why most any store you go to has their checkout upfront or in the center of the store. It needs to be visible, and being in front or center also helps whoever is behind the counter to be aware of what is around them. That back corner could be good for your paint display, or a seating area where a customer can sit down and look at fabric samples or something like that.

Think about creating some faux walls throughout the space, similar to a furniture store. That way the different styles are a bit separated visually and you have more walls to display against. One of the rooms could be your own shop, specific to keep bulk flipping materials;; paints, brushes, sandpaper, knobs and pulls, etc. So as you do your flips you shop your bulk area (saving supply costs) for ideas, inspirations, amd convenience.

Congratulations! So exciting! I think you should call it "Flip!" or "On the Flip Side". Having had a shop (Indie dyer studio and store front) and worked in several (yarn shops), I'll recommend that you have the checkout area nearer to the entry, and positioned in a way that whoever is working there can see as much of the whole space as possible, for security, and definitely have a camera system that can be monitored from the checkout area. We like to believe that people are honest, and most of them are, but unfortunately, theft does happen.

I have worked as painter in a few cabinet shops with show rooms and I was emagining the shop being set up, getting pumped for you during your tour. If you're going to be using any oil based paint you'll definitely want to put a couple filtered exhausts in. An in and and out. I'd put a paint booth in too if I were you, with big doors with huge filters with the out exhaust on the opposite side of the booth that the doors are on to optimize ventilation.

For the other space, there are many custom vending machines nowadays that sell things other than food if you don't want food and drinks in the store. Time for Nieman to show us his skills in decorating. as far as one of the bathrooms and the small room next to it. they should be used as a display room for bathroom deco. like when you turn a dresser into a sink?? you can have a few different models and sizes for folks to choose from. as far as colors on the wall i would go with a neutral color or earth tone color that will work with all colors that you will be painting with. if you want to split the walls like you were talking about put a faux wall to break up the sections so it does not become mumbo jumbo. btw congrats on the store and good luck!
