I grew up in the “projects” in Bushwick Brooklyn poor af. This song was the first time I remember having joy with my mother. Mr. Big is famous for this ballad... but the band rocked - they had 3 exceptional musicians (bassist Billy Sheehan, guitarist Paul Gilbert, and drummer Pat Torpey) and a great singer, Eric Martin. The band debuted in 1989, but it was the 2nd album 'Lean into it' that made them stars in 1991, going platinum in the US (1 million copies) ... the 3rd album 'Bump ahead' was a huge hit worldwide in 1993... Guitarist Paul Gilbert felt that their 1996 album 'Hey man' was a bit too commercial, so he quit soon after. Guitarist Richie Kotzen joined Mr. Big in 1999 for the album 'Get over it' and 'Actual size' in 2001... However, disagreements led to Mr. Big breaking up soon after. In 2010, guitarist Paul Gilbert reunited w/ the original Mr. Big to release the album 'What if' . Tragically, original drummer Pat Torpey passed away from Parkinson's disease in 2018 (R.I.P.) and the last Mr. Big album in 2017 ('Defying gravity') had been recorded (mostly) without him. To date, Mr. Big has opted not to continue after the death of drummer Pat Torpey... Other Mr. Big singles - 'Green tinted sixties mind' ... 'Wild world' (Cat Stevens cover)... 'Addicted to that rush'... 'Alive & kickin' ... 'Take cover'

@mathewhudson76492 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say underrated at all, Paul was called the lock nut monster and more from the school of players like Yngwie Malmsteen and although legendary Alex cannot play like those guys.
@papagriz332 жыл бұрын
People who know guitar do not underrate Paul, he's at the top of the top. I do agree that he is not as much of a household name as other players in the same talent tier (EVH, SRV, Jimi, etc.).

His replacement, Richie Kotzen is also a great guitarist and singer. He's got a voice, like Chris Cornell. His solo stuff is good, as well as his stuff with Adrian Smith.

I'm glad you two heard this song. It's soft yet powerful, especially when you hear the lyrics. It came out in '91, and to this day, it's one of the greatest anthems for us guys who are always friendzoned and have to watch the loves of our life wade through life with these guys that treat them like crap. Yet we stand by their side as their friend, truly caring and loving them, hoping that one day, we will be the next to be with them, and they will realize we were meant for them all along.

I remember when this song was EVERYWHERE. I don’t just mean on the radio. They played (and still occasionally play) this at the grocery store. It went to #1 in 15 countries. It was a massive hit in 1991. It was that summer song that you couldn’t get away from even if you wanted to.

Love this song. Your next hair band reaction should be ‘Heaven’ by Warrant. I’ve noticed that you’ve never reacted to Collective Soul. If you check them out ‘Shine,’ ‘December,’ ‘The World I Know,’ ‘Heavy,’ ‘Gel’ or ‘Wasting Time’ would be good ones to listen to.

Mr Big is a Group of Virtuoso.. legit voice of Eric, Slamming Bass of Billy, Legendary guitar play by Paul and Crunchy Drum play by Pat.. catch em on their final tour end of this year and next year in EU and US.. you'll never regret it..

So many great hair bands in the 80's that were amazing live and could sing. They did it live, did it real and were genuine. Mr. Big and so many others had talent under all that glam and hair spray. Someone below mentioned the band EXTREME. Definitely a band to check out - "more than words"

Could you imagine after the song how many women fell in love with this guy the 1st time they heard him sing it. I mean you just lost your lady for a good 20 seconds she forgot totally about you completely fell in love with him in 10 seconds And the other 10 seconds she imagined their family together lol

They are primarily a rock band. This was their ballad and their biggest song. Lead singer is Eric Martin.
@brentkraus4572 жыл бұрын
I have been a huge Eric Martin fan since hearing the Eric Martin Band in the 80’s. The opened for all the rock acts that came through San Francisco (Sammy Hagar, Night Ranger). They had two songs that got some radio play (Don’t Stop and Sucker for a Pretty Face) I think Amber would love Ten Feet Tall as well. The band broke up before they could record a second album. Eric did a few solo albums that showcased his voice but didn’t amount to much. Listen to Confess, These Are The Good Times, Just One Night. Then Mr. Big got together. To Be With You was a song Eric had been toying with for a while. He also did a band called TMG. Great rock album. I feel like you could pick anything he sings on and couldn’t go wrong. I actually met him at a Best Buy while I was working there. He came in looking for a Harry Potter movie. After he asked if I could help him I said your Eric Martin! I’d be happy to help you! Nicest guy.

Goosebumps all the time when I listen or play this song on guitar... They are an iconic Melodic Hard Rock band, with the outstanding vocalist and also super talented Paul Gilbert on guitar and fabulos Billy Sheehan on bass...

The guitarist Paul Gilbert is amongst the absolute best to ever play. Also the bass player Billy Sheehan is one of the very best. This song obviously does not showcase those virtuoso skills though.

Mr Big is one of those rock bands that was popular in the early 90s in that era between hair bands and grunge. The bands Extreme and their song More Than Words, Queensryche with the song Silent Lucidity, and Nelson with After the Rain and (I Can’t Live Without Your) Love & Affection we’re also big during this time. All of them are worth a listen.
