"Kyrie Eleison" is Greek for "Lord, have mercy." It is used as a prayer in both Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox services. Greek was the original language of the New Testament and it was later translated in to Latin. Properly pronounced with three syllables (KEE-ree-yay.)

Guys...sorry to tell you, the song is pronounced "Kir-e-a." The full phrase of the song that Richard Page sings is "kyrie eleison," Latin for "Lord, have mercy," and as told here, it's used as part of a prayer in the Catholic Church (and since my dad was a Catholic Deacon, I KNOW what I'm talking about). This song has religious elements and lyrics (which Richard Page and company used quite often) backed by a rock-pop beat that is just freakin' infectious. I'm glad you guys have discovered Mr. Mister, probably one of the BEST underrated rock/pop bands of the 80's. Richard (the bassist), Steve George (the keyboardist), Steve Ferris (lead guitarist), and Pat Mastellotto (drummer, who later joined the Rembrandts ("I'll Be There For You" from Friends)) only lasted til the end of the decade, but they were very critically acclaimed. Get your ears and find "Welcome To The Real World," the LP/CD from where "Kyrie" comes from, I promise you won't be disappointed. And I've already let Richard and Pat know online all too much, I have come to adopt "Kyrie" as my "theme song" thru life, giving me strength thru the craziness that sometimes pops up.

This song means so much to me. I added it to my iPod just before my senior trip to Europe, and found myself singing it on the motor coach as we were driving along the French Mediterranean coast. When my classmates heard me singing it, they insisted I plug my iPod into the bus’s PA system, and when I did, the whole bus sang along to the song. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky that day, the sea was sapphire blue, and we did not have a care in the world as we travelled in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. This is one of my favourite memories of high school, and this song never fails to bring a smile to my face, sometimes with happy tears as I remember the greatest trip I have ever taken. Thank you Rob Squad for reacting to this song, and I’m glad you love it as much as I do! 😊

Always had a soft spot for Mr. Mister, as they were formed in my hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Sadly, they only lasted eight years as a band (1982-90), and only two of their albums got any traction with listeners. Both "Kyrie" and "Broken Wings" hit #1 in 1985. After that, they hit the Top 10 with "Is It Love" (definitely should be your next one), and then had another hit with "Something Real". To this day, Richard Page's vocals still give me goosebumps. Also - as you heard in the song, the title is pronounce "KIH-ree-ay"... NOT like Mr. Irving. :) Also also - When are you gonna do some more Richard Marx? "Endless Summer Nights" and "Angelia" are both great songs. I'll also remind you, Jay, that you've only done "ya boy" Corey Hart twice, and it's been a while. "Everything in My Heart" is a great song of his.

The title of the song is pronounced "KEE-ree-yay", the phrase is "Kyrie eleison", which translates in Greek to "Lord, bave mercy" and is pronounced "KEE-ree-yay ee-LAY-ee-sohn". It's the congregation's response during a tradition Christian prayer in church as the priest recites various things that need to be prayed for that week. The song itself is a prayer, the chorus literally meaning Lord have mercy down the road that I must travel Lord have mercy through the darkness of the night Lord have mercy where I'm going will you follow? Lord have mercy on a highway in the Light I love the song for it's energy, it is an anthem to me for it's message. Great song about our lives with Jesus. Kyrie is Greek for Lord. Jesus is Lord! No matter where we are or go, He is with us and we need to travel our lives with Him. Amen, God bless all reading this!

This is my favorite! Broken Wings is bad, too. I first learned of the title while reading a book called Lord of the Flies in high school. Love the book. Love the song. The 80s was by far the best decade of music! Ijs😊

Man you know you are both into it when you just automatically start clapping like you’re in the crowd of the live session! Very cool

Hilarious!! What better praise can one give to a song than to pound their chair down a couple notches from jamming to it's best ? Another great reaction, guys, from two great people.

Two more great songs from this amazing album, 'Is It Love' (the third single) and 'Don't Slow Down'.

Grew up with this song on the Billboard charts and still listen to it to this day. So many gems came out of that era. Ya'lls heads bobbing to this tune is just an indication that its a moving tune for sure!

Great 80's tune and their follow up to 'Broken Wings.' The only other song of theirs that really charted was 'Is This Love?' from their follow up album.

There's a live version he did a few years ago with Ringo Starr and His All Star Band and his voice sounds exactly the same. It's like 40 years later and the guy still sounds perfect!

They weren’t around very long. One of bands that had a few hit songs and just faded away. I do like all their songs.

Imagine being 16 and seeing this song performed live with 30,000 other fans in the 80s.

I was 16 when it came out….it was instantly one of my faves then……and almost 40 years later STILL a favorite of mine. Such an uplifting song and really a prayer if you read the lyrics.

Another one I love, takes me right back to college. The ascending bass line in the chorus and the drums give me goosebumps. This is arguably the best of their songs. Richard Page has one of the great pop voices. (It’s pronounced “kee-ree-ay a-lay-son”, a Christian prayer pulled from the Greek language.)
