It's a 12 string acoustic guitar. A regular guitar usually has 6 strings, but a 12-string has 6 'pairs' of strings (which creates a more chorused kind of sound.)
@ThePloppy8 ай бұрын
I was going to mention that. But I can't tell what brand it is. It sounds like a Gibson but the headstock logo looks like Ibanez, which wouldn't be surprising since Paul Gilbert has always been endorsed by them. I had an Ibanez acoustic around 2000 and it had a big, bassy tone also. Edit: I also learned this song on that guitar at the time, lol.

Guitar is a 12 string which gives a fuller sound compared to the regular 6 string.

Hey Brit, as a guitar player, I can tell you that that isn't a Spanish guitar so much as just an acoustic guitar. Guitars can have different sonic properties depending upon how they are made and the woods, or other materials, used in their construction. I am sure the guitar player, Paul Gilbert probably has played many to find that one and chose it for its unique sonic properties. So, about this group.... Mr. Big was a supergroup...each of these musicians are well known for their abilities on their instrument of choice and were in other well known bands/projects before being in this group. The members are Eric Martin (singer), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass) and Pat Torpey (drums; sadly he passed away a few years back). This band was known for their hard rockin songs, but this acoustic song was the one that became their hit single and got them noticed in the world. They are like Extreme that way. They have released several albums over the years. If you want to hear the first song that I believe they released, as far as I know, and was all over Mtv back in the day..... check out 'Addicted To That Rush'... along with 'Take A Walk', 'Merciless', and their version of '30 Days In The Hole'. If you want to see something interesting, check out 'Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)' where the guitarist uses a modified electric drill with picks attached to play the solo. Cheers, Tim

It's a 12 string, that's why it has strong harmonics
@time3947Ай бұрын
@@Cheeseberry69 On the album, the rhythm is a 6 string that is doubled, with on possibly set up with a Nashville tuning. The harmonics are strong because the used good recording gear and that solo guitar probably hard a preamp in it... is it easy to tell that the solo guitar is a 6 string when you hear that those notes are not doubled and the one open E string that Paul 'pops' a little too hard about midway through the solo... but that harmonics at the end have nothing to do with being a 12 string. It is easy to tell when you know what to listen for.

Peak Hair Metal. I like it, I hate it, it's complicated 🤣😂🤣 Metal isn't SUPPOSED to be nice. But so many of these bands made their money with a ballad. Eventually they realized the teen girls were the ones who could get them to #1.

Mr Big was (still is) a highly talented band, some of the best musicians in the business, who formed and managed to squeeze out 2 or 3 hit songs before Grunge came in and took over the Rock industry. If Smells Like Teen Spirit hadn't come out the same year, these guys could have had a long successful career in the US. But that's ok, they went off and had a long and very successful career in Japan instead.
