Clem Burke goes beast mode on this track!!! FYI: Blondie released their first album in 1976 whereas The Go-Go's released their first album in 1981. If anything, Blondie influenced The Go-Go's, not the other way around.

Blondie were really diverse musically. They didn't get on with producer Mike Chapman at first till they heard what he had done with their songs and realised he was able to bring the best out of them.
@christianoazzuro67112 жыл бұрын
Totally,totally agree.After the 'Parallel lines' album i had bought 'Autoamerican' Couldn't believe my ears on the diverse collection of songs and the way they were produced and Debbie sounded equally great to my ears in every style.Mike Chapman was definately so 'pushy' and convincing that was really able to 'bring the best out of them' despite Deb's hesitation!Still love both albums along with the rather 'punky'' 'Plastic Letters' from the older ones.

Huge Blondie fan. Other bands from that time with female vocalists you might wanna check out, if you haven't already, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and X-Ray Spex.

Loved that first time i heard it.I remember when this came out, some criticised them for turning more pop and 'approaching dangerously' Abba's sound (hinting they shouldn't).But who cared,song became a hit single(UK No2) and still sounds great and fresh.It's a fine power pop/new wave banger.Fab vocals/b.vocals by Debbie and explosive drumming sound.Blondie's drummer was a man on fire!D.Harry was a very dynamic front woman and had the guts to stand up there and managed to survive in a rock n roll world that was kinda prejudiced and kinda hostile for rock female leadsingers those times.And yes Chris Stein have stated that the main chorus tune was pretty much of a sped up 'cop' that got inspired from some part of Abba's Dancing Queen that possibly happened half consciously/half subconsciously.In another interview it was joyfully quoted that they were lucky Abba didn't take notice at the time and didn't cause them a problem.(I am sure they wouldn't.They must have been pretty much flattered for sure!) Neverthless this track can't leave you sit back and just listen.You wanna get up and move your body up n down matching Debbie's glorious wild performance.So that's thumbs up for sure!I really super enjoyed re watching this with you.

Blondie was a very pioneering band that blended genres well. They influenced a lot of bands that followed. I'm glad you chose "Dreaming" to react to. Blondie deserve a lot more notice besides just their more popular hits "Rapture", "Heart of Glass", and "Call Me".

Debbie Harry, the lead singer of Blondie, worked as a Playboy Bunny at Hugh Hefner's New York City club from 1968 to 1973. Harry has said that the most difficult part of being a Bunny is "keeping smiling while infuriated wives stubbed out"

Blondie is one of my four or five favourite bands, and this is my favourite Blondie song. Debbie is amazing, as always, and Clem Burke is a beast on drums. Definitely from the Keith Moon style of drumming, he is one of the best drummers in the world, but he flies under the radar. Well known within the industry, most of the music consumers don't know who he is. Except us, of course.

Oh yes first white act i think.Btw a big hip hop/rap hit around that time of Blondie's 1980 'Rapture' that got preceded was 'Rapper's delight' by the Sugarhill Gang.Blondie took advantage of that upcoming wave-trend and pushed it a little further so they made it even more mainstream and reached an even wider white audience.

I can't agree with the 'Dancing Queen' reference' I just don't feel it. Dreaming is too fast and furious. I love this song. "I'd build a road in gold just to have some dreaming', 'reel to reel is living rarity, people stop and stare at me'. Great song writing Debbie Harry and Chris Stein

If we are talking about female singers who helped shape the music genre we've got to include Grace Slick, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Patti Smith, Carly Simon, Suzi Quatro, Janis Joplin, Amy Lee, Chrissie Hynde, Tina Turner, Siouxsie Sioux, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, .... and I know I've missed quite a few more that deserve mentioning.

Blonde was New Wave, called so because it was the second wave of the punk revolution. The so called Godfather of Punk were Iggy Pop and the Stooges from the early 70's. The base for all punk started with the Kinks- All Day and All Night, featuring guitar work by then studio musician Jimmy Page. Punk would explode into many different styles in the 80's and become ubiquitous to the decade.

Blonde came out of one the most creative periods of bands from NYC’s CBGB’s in the mid to late 70s along with the Ramones, Richard Hell and the voidoids, Patti Smith group, Television, The Dead boys and The Talking Heads And this guy’s talking about F-ing ABBA???🤦🏾♂️ The time period (1974-78) these bands were playing CBGBs is considered the birth of punk and inspired the UK punk scene With all due respect Dad likes good music but he don’t know 💩 about the history of the bands they react to And that sometimes makes the bands seem corny AF!!!😫

Pop punk is just one of the genres of new wave though. New wave could also be synthesizer dance music too like Human League or Devo.
@vovindequasahi2 жыл бұрын
@@guyinsf Bro, Devo is NOT synthesizer dance music! They use synthesizers but the music is more hardcore punk, well at least on most of their albums.
@guyinsf2 жыл бұрын
@@vovindequasahi A large portion of Devo's catalog is synthesizer dance music and certainly their most famous songs are in that genre. Regardless my point is new wave is not only one category, there's a lot more to news wave than just pop punk but yes pop punk is one of the big styles of NW.
