David Gilmour has this amazing ability to design his guitar solos to perfectly match the emotions of the song, it’s like the solo matches the mood and feeling and no one does this like him in my opinion.

And I was one of the lucky ones getting to see them live twice in their absolute prime. April 12, 1975 at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco and in 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. Wow wow wow. Incredible. I still have the cassette audio tape from the 1975 show, I snuck a mini cassette recorder in and taped the entire 4 hour show. They played the entire Dark Side of the Moon Album, then Echoes Album and finally their new Album in 75, Wish you were Here.

Hi, it's great to see your reactions, keep it up. Pink Floyd are different to most of the rock bands of the era. Most of their albums are meant to be heard as a whole, so playing individual tracks is doing the song an injustice. Hey You is the second song you have played from the album and movie "THE WALL" which is complicated to understand on it's own. Watch the movie first and then react . If you however decide to keep playing individual tracks from different albums I would advise you to go first for their live contributions like "PULSE". Trust me, they are just as good if not better when they are playing live. I think that what made the big bands of the era so great was that they all were very good playing live. All the best from MALTA.

React to "Mother" from the same album. One must listen to the album from 1sr song to the last. Semi-autobiographical album about Roger Waters. There is a movie version of The Wall too. It's not a physical wall but a psychological wall.
@unholydriver49873 ай бұрын
What you two really should do is listen to the full album Dark Side of the Moon, to see just how epic Pink Floyd really is...but since that seems unlikely, listen to the song Time, with the lyrics. It just gets more poignant with every day you get older.
@robertevans24503 ай бұрын
this entire album is about a single narrator's psychological makeup. Some themes are about causation, like a mother being overbearing, or a wife cheating on him, etc...while others are more macro, like the education system forming children into workers/robots to feed the machine and the effects it has on limiting empathy, and mental growth, or the music industry being a machine, even in some small drabs of religion affecting the shape the narrator grows up to be...and even others are a combo of the macro and self micro, war between peoples and the horrible reasoning for it, that same war that took the narrator's father from him while he was just a boy, and all the psychosis that originated from that missing piece in his life...each of these are bricks which the narrator uses to build a mental wall that blocks out the harm and hazards, leaving him to be a horrible humanbeing that can be seen in tunes like 'In the Flesh' and 'Run', one of which shows the narrator in a void of empathy as a Nationalist(if you think of the entire psychy makeup of an individual as a single Nation) Fascist, Bigget, Authoritarian over the other aspects of his psychy...while the other is on the macro of this as it relates to the outside world and fears of what happens when all of us have these evils inside of us, rise to power. Hope is on the outside of the wall, while Hate helps Fear rule the inside of the wall...in an opera on the causality from an action-reaction story. Musically this opera is mostly just Roger writing and David coming after and trying to create music to fit the scene. It isn't one of their better albums musically and only Roger finds it as something remarkable. Rick and Nick didn't have a lot of input into this album, Rick was dealing with a divorce and several losses of meaningful people in his life. This album was the beginning of the break up of the band, for Roger felt Rick was no longer worthy of being called a band member and wanted him out of the group, something that would take a couple of albums to bring to fruition. It was the firing of Rick and how Roger dealt with it that broke up the band, as David didn't agree at all with any of it and Nick was in support of Rick. The first official act of the band after the departure of Roger (who left because he refused to work with Rick), was to re-hire Rick, which then led to the lawsuits and the long drawn-out conclusion before the band could make music again. One of the conclusions of the legal battles was the post-Roger Pink Floyd giving up playing of most of this album, with only a few exceptions that David and Nick did have a great deal of input on, such as Another Brick in the Wall Part II, Run, Comfortably Numb, and Hey You. Individual interviews reveal only Roger likes this album, while Wish You Were Here and Animals are the albums the other band members are most fond of. Off this album (The Wall), Another Brick in the Wall pt II, Run, Hey You, Mother, Comfortably Numb, Is There Anybody Out There, and Good Bye Blue Skies are probably the better tracks of the album...In my honest opinion, Carol probably won't like Mother, as it is a slow and very dark view of the relationship between a son and his mother. Is There Anybody Out There is another I would hold off from viewing and just catch it when you do the album review or the movie. Goodbye Blue Skies might touch a chord with you both considering where you live and what the current conflict fears are. The Wall is an incredible opera, and worth everyone experiencing at least once in their life, and the album that filled in the tracks that weren't already in other albums, being a 4 sided release, doesn't really have many tracks I would listen to on their own without the rest of the side or album. If you are going to do an album, I would do Darkside of the Moon first, then Wish You Were Here, then Animals, then Division Bell, then Delicate Sound of Thunder, then Meddle, then The Wall. As for the next track for you to listen to, I would love to see the reaction of you both to these tracks which come from multiple different albums both during and after Roger's departure.... Time (Pulse remastered) Us and Them (Pulse Remastered) Great Gig in the Sky (Delicate Sound of Thunder Live) Wish You Were Here (Pulse remastered) Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pulse remastered) Money (Pulse remastered) Learning to Fly (Pulse remastered) Dogs of War (Delicate Sound of Thunder live) Dogs (Studio album) Pigs pt I and II (Studio album) Pigs on the Wings (Studio album) Sheep (Studio album) While I know you have done Comfortably Numb already, I would love to see you at some point do a reaction to the version David does in his solo tour Live at Pompeii pt II.

Since you are still new to Pink Floyd, now would be the time to change the way you approach them. Go to the album , Dark Side of the Moon ( the highest selling album of the 70’s, snd in the top five in history) and start with the first track snd move through it. Do the same with the next album, Wish You Were Here and then Animals. Floyd ‘s albums are concept albums, meant to be listened to as an entire piece. Since you dont do entire album reactions, the next best thing is to do the tracks in order, so you get the context of each song. I would suggest doing it this way, starting with your next Floyd reaction. And once you’ve done those albums, go back and listen to the album Meddle. The entire second side is an amazing trip of a song. Their magnum opus imo. Echoes.

How can any guy with a pair of balls take Pink Floyd seriously? The squeaky voiced whispery singing, the laid back pacing, languid guitar, airy fairy lyrics and limp drumming. They're lullabies for stoned people. Furthermore their glamorization of drugs had led countless teenagers into the shady netherworlds of drugs and are one of the main reasons the Mexican cartels are doing big business. All the cartel killings are happening ultimately because boring whiny boomers and high school drop outs can smoke their dope to their boring soft rock band The Floyd. And no I'm not "trolling" I just absolutely DESPISE the music of Pink Floyd and the deadly drug culture they so embrace. *Fuck Pink Floyd and their wussy druggy music for lazy losers*

For an added treat, check out David Gilmour's self-titled first solo album (1978). It came out between the albums Animals and The Wall, and you can definitely hear Gilmour working out progressions and solos that would later become integrated into some of the biggest hits on The Wall, most notably an instrumental called "Raise My Rent" which is basically a first draft for "Hey You". Its also just a great album on its own, with Gilmour's signature vocals and guitar creating that Pink Floyd atmosphere. "There's No Way Out Of Here", "Short and Sweet" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore" are classics.

I recall Led Zeppelin made an attempt with a rockumentary with their " Movie esq " The Song Remains the Same...Though never put to film and completely in order that I'm aware of, MEATLOAF performed The Bat Out of Hell tour like a play. As I said, The WALL will make alot of sense by giving it a look...and perhaps you'll react to some Led Zeppelin and Meatloaf to bare witness.

To listen to the one song is like reading a random chapter in a book, you might get an impression of the story, but you have no context for it. 'The Wall' is a concept album and rock opera, much like 'Tommy' by The Who. Both were made into movies as well. Pink Floyd had an elaborate theatrical concert tour of The Wall with massive props and puppets. Get the album, watch the movie. One of the bands and an all time great album, I believe ranked second only to 'The Dark Side of the Moon.'

During concerts dedicated to the album "The Wall", a team of roadies literally build a WALL between the band and the spectators. When the song "Hey You" plays, the WALL has become too high, so the character in the story (Pink), seeks to ask for help from those on the other side of the WALL. "No matter how he tried, he could not break free - And the worms ate into his brain", the worms are symbols of negative forces within ourselves.

Well done. And you choose the right version of this great psychedelic song because you can hear the vocals of David and also of Roger. Now you should try to..."Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun"
