Love the Manni and Sarah dynamic, you can feel they are enjoying themselves! Never p*** myself on a race (english is not my first language so it took me a while to understand what the beep meant 😅) but I am running my first marathon in a few weeks and this is my worst fear! Especially as a woman. I've tried avoiding tea (veeery hard for me) before long runs. Advice are welcome.

Kind of comforting to hear that it isn't just me that urinated on myself during a run. The worst part was that I was standing in the bathroom stall and was untying my shorts when it happened

I said it on the last video and it stands…Manni and Sarah are hilarious together. Thanks for the laughs this morning! Also…to the new moms who know what I’m talking about…take Manni’s advice and go see a pelvic floor physio. You may have just pushed a 10 lb baby out, you’re a champion. Nothing to be ashamed about, but you can get help to fix it! (Speaking from much experience here!)

Thank God for convenience stores. Halfway through a 15 mile long run all of a sudden i had to go really bad. Stopped in a convenience store with all my running gear on ran to the bathroom. Then thankfully had my credit card with me so I could at least buy a Gatorade. I would have felt guilty for just using their facilities and dashing off. Then continued my long run.

I'm interested to know if you have a video on these pelvic floor exercises Manni mentioned? While I've not had this issue, YET, I have delivered two 4kg babies and could definitely see where this could be an issue! (Also very new to running.) Thanks so much for all your insight and humor!

Have you never seen a child loose control running down a hill? They do spin their arms in an attempt to rebalance. The windmill is overhand though.
@feish2882 жыл бұрын
Tbf I kind of understand where the first one is coming from, as a fell runner/orienteer, it can help you keep your balance better (and so run faster) if you flail your arms a bit more on a really steep and uneven downhill. But yeah a full windmill on a normal road probably isn't the one.
@matthewmason89822 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s not as nuts as it was portrayed. If you’re running fast downhill, you’re not still normal arm-swinging, even on road.
@christopherbrand53602 жыл бұрын
Windmilling arms downhill fast is good for liberating your inner child. I think that being Manni is already so much fun that the silliness of downhill windmills seems redundant. And his point that it is not likely to make you faster is certainly true if your inner child is already reasonably free :)
@stevieroger74782 жыл бұрын
Now TRC MUST do a video on this windmill technique. Just for fun. 😀 They could have Sarah, Manny and Anna trying it out on a steep hill. It would be hilarious. Especially on a windy day. 😄

@nv1t2 жыл бұрын
The Windmill Action could also mean to stabilize Downhill on a Trail run. This way you are more flexibel and can adapt to changes faster due to arm movement :) and for the last one: you can't outrun/outtrain a bad diet.

Running downhill with not moving my arms the normal way (not windmilling) helps me keep my balance better. The dunes around here sometimes are that steep that if you run "normal" you have to slow down or being prepared to kiss the ground.

When I run 5 days a week, I can eat as much as I want to a degree. My biggest problem when running 5x1-2 hours is that I am burning so many calories that when eating healthy foods it is almost a chore to ingest enough calories without resorting to eating nuts or fatty foods. I still will not use this extra calorie burn as an excuse to eat processed or junk food, but it can be challenging eating a plant based diet and still consume 3000-4000 calories a day. When I first started running I was not tracking my calories and I eventually started to really drag because I was not consuming nearly enough calories. Now I chart all my food so I can make sure I am eating enough.
@richskater2 жыл бұрын
Like Manny, I've had some close calls, but no accidents (yet). I will say when the urge to go hits, it goes from 1 to 10 in an instant. There's no "I can hold it a mile", no, it has to happen like right now. Also, once "the cork is popped", seems like it's super frequent. Most runs I don't have any issues or urges. But on the few that I do, it seems like I have to stop 2-3 times.

I weed myself in my first half marathon. I was at mile 10, really struggling, when suddenly my entire body lost tension for just a second. Some wee came out, and I almost face planted. Anyone know what that was? Also, as a horse girl, we used to wear our new leather riding boots in the warm shower to help soften and mold them to us. (I've also heard that was done with jeans, too!) And yes Sarah, nice dig at age! 😆 Also, I've heard windmilling and on very rough downhill terrain can help with balance. I think that came from a Sage Canaday video?

Where I believe the windmill idea came from is running down steep downhills like on trails. You put you arms out further for added stability. If you watch Killian Jornet or any elite trail runner going fast down a trail it will look like they are just flailing thier arms around.
@aCountryVegan2 жыл бұрын
Soaking your leather shoes in the past was recommended, especially with boots. You filled them with water and wore them until they were dry. This as you guys pointed out, will not work with running shoes. As for urination, stuff happens, was on a 10k in a city that I had no idea where anything was, there was no port a potties and the temperature was 0f. Three quarters of the way thru this old man felt it hit and after a few minutes I knew I was not going to be able to hold it. Thank goodness for winter running tights! LOL

A few years ago Eddie Izzard did a marathon challenge (I think he’s done several) where he ran something like 30 marathons in as many days. He tried to address his diet but, by and large, it was pretty much what he usually ate and specifically he didn’t give up his beer (good man!). He didn’t lose any significant weight as far as I recall.

Ok a couple of things. Or a few. First, I've spoken with several sister runners who've had children and in spite of endless pelvic and core muscle workouts they still have a little trouble with (you know) while running. Second, when I was in the military I knew guys who would soak their new boots and put them on to break them in, but Manni was absolutely correct about the shoe should be leather. Finally, I'd love to hear some talk about sex before a race. I've heard several runners say it's a no no for them and some who say it's a must. Me? I'm a gent, no comment.

Eating cuz you run is fine as long as you truly understand your energy/calorie expenditure. I’ve read studies show many people overestimate calories expended during exercise and then overeat wondering why they’re gaining weight. Or “treat” themselves for the effort, which negates the calorie deficit.
