I will ALWAYS love U2. No apologies. Their music is just too good and their live shows are epic. Still.

Why does a conversation about U2 need all this framing about how they are 'uncool' and how jaded everyone is with them. Just sets up the video negatively. And then the immediate follow up is negative. Kills any joy in it. Also, the band still have plenty of fans. Just sold out 40 nights in 1 city :P

u2 from the 1980s up to the early 2010s were lethal and the biggest band on earth. then the whole commotion with the album in 2014 was a stick to beat them with. Fact is even today there still the biggest band on earth and global Icons. an today in there 60s still able to sell out anywhere in the world and can hold there own which is remarkable

The first 20 years of U2’s material is up there with the best of any band. Boy through to All that you can’t leave behind is a brilliant sequence of albums. Each album with a different sound to the other (apart from the first 2 post punk albums) U2 moved with the times and changed their image and sound. They reinvented themselves numerous times. Last 20 years not so much. I think the Nickleback comparison is very harsh. Nickleback have and always will be in one lane. u2 experimented with so many different sounds , especially in the 90’s. Albums like Achtung Baby , Zooropa Pop are cutting edge alternative albums. Great review 👍

I remember when Adam got sick (I beleive alcohol poisoning) and they had to use the bass tech for their Sydney show at the Stadium next to the SCG Stadium (yeah there are two different style stadiums next to each other - they are different shapes). So I am watching the Sheffield Shield Cricket and sittign really close to the other stadium and all day these guys are going through their set with the tech guy to make sure they got it right on the night. They could of just sort of winged it on the night but that wasn't them - I got to hear the show twice crystal clear and it was great stuff. I dont think people realise just how good they were in their prime but if you watch Rattle & Hum or the Red Rock show or that performance at Live Aid you get a sense of just how good they truly were. South Park is ... not a great source of information.

Having your worldview shaped by something like South Park is a pretty embarassing thing to admit, all told.

Great reaction guys! If people choose to follow what's cool and trendy rather than actually listen to the music then it's their loss. I really like their stuff from their debut 'Boy' through to 'Achtung Baby' but I don't know much after that. Cheers.

I'm Lucky I discovered U2 in 1983 at age 19 actually 1982 at age 18. My College Band. When I heard New Year's Day I told my Brother 17 U2 is Going To Become The Biggest Band in The World. Seeing Ever Tour Since ZooTV up to 2 Nights At The Sphere 26 Shows U2 Still Makes The Best Music in The World. Every Album U2 Ever Made Should Have Won The Grammy for Album of The Year. I'm 60 Now U2 The Greatest Ride Ever and I Also Got To See Over 60 Live Concerts of all The Big Bands and Acts U2 is Still The Greatest Biggest Band in The World Period. No current act could Do What U2 Did at the Sphere. I like Love all kinds of different Music, But U2 is Unmatched. Grateful for All The Talented Artist and Music But U2 is at The Top!! SAD for people who thought U2 peaked at the Joshua Tree.

Been a while since Ive seen a video from this channel, so I dont know who the guy on left and in. middle are. The middle guy made a comment which reflects how I became a U2 fan, and not just a casual listener. Several of my friends in high school, and their friends, were more into the harder stuff like metal, and they also liked or even loved U2. But when Achtung Baby came out in 1991, this was a cardinal sin. They were pissed off that the band who was formerly stripped down, suddenly were incorporating hip hop, industrial and electron influences, sounds and techniques. I got the entire back catalog of U2 albums because, my friend was done with them due to Achtung Baby. I was somewhat in the othernative area, Never truly fitting into the crowd and culture, especially in terms or music, dress and even attitude. I was dressing preppy in the midst of everyone going grunge. A few of us embraced alternative but still loved the more synth and European influenced music. U2 mirrored this in the 90s, they never EASILY fit into the genres and subgenres of the time. Back then, the mixing of styles was not common, it was an anomaly. There was Beastie Boys, RUNDMC with Aerosmith and a few others you could point to, but they were few and far between. The Judgement Night and Crow soundtracks were going with more rap metal direction, but that came a bit later. Yet even there, U2's blend was something else. It wasn't simply Rap and Rock, or Pop Rock etc. The styles weren't so clear and clean. When you break down everything they were doing in the 90s, it was the very definition of "Alternative" which was originally meant to define what could not be defined in modern rock.

Certainly one if not the best vocally harmonious live version. From the 2000s onwards the song started to become too artificial, and then somehow the magic and power was missing, because in the version heard the rhythm is kept a little faster with a great guitar solo. Keep up going.

I wish you would do a reaction from a way more recent performance. Maybe look for the most viewed video on KZbin. Bono’s voice changed so much. He had an incredible voice back then, but now it gets stronger and stronger.U2 is my favorite band since 1987. I grew up with them and if you give them a chance, they don’t make crap music. They have fantastic lyrics and change up their styles. They always surprised with their new albums in the past.

Lyrically, U2 is still way ahead of what's out there now. Read Bono's songs, and then pick any of "what sells" now that took 9 people to write(at least on the writing credits). It isn't even close IMO.

The Nickelback comparison may be fair, but only in terms of superficial cultural fodder. In terms of how much people like to use Nickelback as the go-to punching bag for jokes the comparison makes sense. Outside of that, there is zero comparison. Without really commenting too much of Nickelback, U2 had already solidified its place in Rock History and Iconography, as well as Rock n Roll culture before the 90s. Then with the 90s the elevated their status even more, spreading even further globally, and putting out albums and tours which reshaped the music industry. Then, in the 2000s they had massive commercial success with their first two albums of that period along with 3 tours that were wild success and again changed the concert industry and performance. People who dont know U2, or dont think they have heard their music, have heard of Bono and Edge when those names are mentioned. They are a status far and above not just Nickelback but the majority of their contemporaries and music that followed.
