Absolutely agree with this review, especially on the pacing and, at times, heavy handed wink wink nudge nudge moments lol. This book was a bit difficult to get through but using an audiobook was helpful! So I recommend that. Cant wait to see what yall think about Son of Neptune!

Fun story, the first Percy Jackson book i read was this one (because it was a gift and we didn't know much about the books). And to be honest, it is one of my favorites to this day. I didn't put it down until I finished it, and since then I've been hooked with anything Percy Jackson to this day 😅

At the beginning of the video I was worried about your opinion on the first book, but as the video played I felt relieved. Don't give up on this saga or the Riordanverse, this is just the tip of the iceberg

I agree that The Heroes of Olympus books are too long, but i love them. Maybe even more than the original series. One thing that i'm really curious about is whether Piper and Leo were already friends before Hera started messing with things and changed their memories. I've read this series before and it doesn't ever get mentioned, but i do think it could be interesting for Hera's characterization. We know that Leo is incredibly lonely and wants to be part of something, but feels like the third wheel since Jason and Piper started dating. If he and Piper were friends and it was just the two of them before Jason came, that would mean that he would have found his one person that he felt comfortable and at home with (and i don't mean that they had to have had a relationship, but just friends would be enough). If that would be the case (as is my head-cannon), how cruel would Hera be to break that up and make Leo the third wheel in this friendship. She truly values this task and this prophecy above all else and she would sacrifice anything and anyone for it, so i wouldn't put it past her.

That’s an excellent point, I wondered that myself as I was reading. Again I don’t think Riordan spent quite enough time delving into all that memory changing and how it affected them. But one thing we can all agree on, Hera is the worst and it’s a terrible thing she does to them, even if there is a good reason for it

A tip that will save you both from a big headache: Avoid "The Chalice of the Gods" and the new books that Rick Riordan is currently releasing because they not only contain spoilers for Heroes of Olympus but also The Trials of Apollo and can also have references to The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase so if you're going to read it, read it after you've finished all these books.
