You two are a fun couple. I am glad the series is still popular. I love the prophecies and hints of future plot details. I love the chapter titles too. I wonder if Riordan listened to the audiobooks and approved of the voices ? I think authors if still alive should choose narrators because some narrator's voices do not correlate to the characters. I agree on this book being mostly setup and not a lot happening. This book suffered from major middle book syndrome. I also agree on what you said that we stay in one pov for too long. There were a few times when i thought "Ok, now we're gonna switch pob right? Oh no, we're still with this same character." I liked Manon, but a little over halfway i got a little tired of the storyline, because nothing was really happening. The only interesting thing was the scene with the spiders. I quite enjoyed that one, but it was over so soon! I did think it was kinda funny that instead of making the bargain with the spiders, she just said "Sike, nope" and then stole it👌I didn't care about Sorscha at all. When she died, i just shrugged. I don't care too much for Dorian either, so that might be part of it too. When Rowan entered the story, i was mostly like "Ok, i guess." I didn't like the blood oath either and thought it was a stupid thing to do. I enjoyed parts of it, i thought there were some great scenes (like the concert after the king had killed all the slaves. That scene was just harrowing and a great way to end that chapter.) I have one question though: If the king has met Celaena's mother (which we know from the flashbacks) and Celaena looks so much like her mother that Emrys and the other half-fae recognised her immediately, then why did the king not figure out that she is Aelin and kill her? Even if he wasn't sure, he doesn't care. One death more or less really won't make any difference. I sincerely apologise for always commenting complete essays on your videos, but you just always have these very interesting thoughts and you make me want to share all of mine too.

I just finished this. I didn't love it, but mostly because i'm not sure what this tried to be. I think you worded it right when you said you wanted it to just be fluff. I think i wanted it to either be fluff and not important or just plot and necessary. This tried to be both and i wish it just would have chosen one. I think it's so funny how we have completely opposite feelings about Elain and Nesta. You don't like Nesta, i love her. You love Elain, i can't stand her, i find her so annoying.

IIRC this book was first published in late 2000/early 2001. At the time, I was preparing for major Work/Life Changes and it was interesting to juxtapose that, to the continued change for the worse in the books. It doesn't help that the book is filled with so much Emo Perrin and Teeth Grinding Faile, who, as characters served to divide and conquer my will to keep reading at times in this novel. I perked up with the return of Elyas Machera, but it didn't take long for me to realise that Jordan wasn't going to do anything remotely interesting with him. The first time I read this, I was genuinely curious about what would happen with the Borderlander Army and the potential inherent in the recalibration of Ishamael as Moridin. By the end of the book, I no longer cared. Mat's return was definitely a resounding positive. Even at his most deliberately obtuse, for me Jordan's perennial saving grace was the way he wrote Mat. The put upon, save the day hero, whose self awareness couldn't plug a needle eye opening schtick, never gets old for me... And it remained immune to Jordan's worst plotting predelictions throughout the series. I loathed Cadsuane from her arrival... Especially the way she deliberately rubbed Rand's incipient madness like an Aes Sedai version of Evil Knevil. But... I did appreciate how she acted for his interests in the company of, and in contention with, others. So there is a successful dichotomy there that while annoying to read for me, was a rare undeniable plotting success from Jordan post Lord of Chaos. Lastly, I have to own up to a persistent level of disbelief when I encounter those who label the Cleansing of Saidin as 'Awesome' or in any similarly positive way. For me, it was emblematic of everything that was wrong about Jordan's writing, starting from the conclusion of A Crown of Swords. Abrupt, jury rigged retcon filled, underwhelming confrontations throughout, where I never felt any of the Key Players on the Light Side were in any real danger from what was on the face of it, the Greatest Collection of Channelers (most of whom were from the Age of Legends) the Shadow had ever congregated. Instead, the way Jordan wrote them, they came across as a bunch of recalcitrant high schoolers sitting exams, but who knew it was Mummy & Daddy's Money & Connections that would ensure they got through to college. In one fell swoop, The Foresaken went from formidable, dangerous foes to the Cast of Gossip Girl guest starring on Vampire Diaries. And all for Jordan's selfish Taimandred retcon to be hammered truculently home. That was Jordan at his most loathsome for mine. I can plainly say I've never read anything in Series Fiction written more vindictively (especially towards the most dedicated and invested fans) than the ending of Winter's Heart. And given how the act of Cleansing is treated subsequently, the hostile intent is just reinforced, by reducing to a doubtful footnote, what should have been Rand's greatest achievement leading up to the Last Battle. So, now you've reached A Crossroads... The book even someone as inscrutable as Jordan himself admitted was a creative failure in a misguided attempt to reestablish plotting control and put all the characters in their proper places, to FINALLY proceed the story towards the Last Battle. I recommend you consume it via Audiobook. Actually reading Crossroads of Twilight is an occasionally painful process of observing square pegs being made to fit in round holes for the sake of plotting continuity and alignment. But there's plenty of Mat in it... So there is that, I suppose. Hang on for Knife of Dreams though. You'll be so glad you made it once you're safely reading there.

I'm currently reading Heir of Fire and i'm quite enjoying it. Can't wait to finish and hear what didn't work for you. I agree on the Bridgerton books. I like them, but i wouldn't say i'm really hooked. I actively disliked The Viscount who Loved me, but i then really enjoyed An Offer from a Gentleman. The fourth one though, i really really loved. It's Collin and Penelope and Penelope is just my favorite character in the series. She deserves everything. And the romance is cute, and the plot is great. Please just read that one. You can't just stop right before that one!

I agree on a lot of things. Especially the pacing at the end was really rough for me. I struggle with connecting emotionally if books get very fast-paced, so the emotional moments just really didn't hit for me. It felt chaotic, but not in the good "this is an accurate reflection of what war is like" type of way, but just messy. My ranking so far is ACOMAF > ACOWAR > ACOTAR. I feel the complete opposite way about Nesta and Elain. I really like Nesta, but i don't like Elain (i think that could be a very unpopular opinion). And i don't have a good reason for it. Just every time Elain is mentioned, my brain goes ugh

This is one of my favourite books. But mostly the Rand scenes. Or Rand and Min. Or Rand and Cadsuane. I would never include this book as part of the slog. A tip to those fans who read and reread the story and still complain about the slog: There is no rule or law in reading that says you have to read the parts that don’t interest you! ESPECIALLY on a reread! The slog disappeared for me the minute I finished the series, because now I only read the pages I want to. So now, none of the books are bad. Just shorter. 😉
