The thing you mentioned the Warden might be sleeping underneath is actually more interesting than that. In some snapshots, that structure was labeled as a portal (if anyone has exact name of it, or any details, lmk). Just thought it was interesting, and it may be important for 1.20.

I think it's a small version of the big portal in the middle, so the fact that it was named "portal" there will definitely be something interesting later versions

the actual item name was something like small_portal_statue. Someone dug that up in the game files during one of the 1.19 early snapshots. It was our first indicator from Mojang of what the center object of each city is.

I actually tried to restore the ancient city, I restored most of it but I lacked any idea on what the portal looks like without skulk so I had trouble with that, and some of the ruins looked like houses so I rebuilt them and furnished them, after I restored a lot I decided to populate it with villagers.

I've got an ancient city very close to my base, and one of my big goals is to restore it. Although, since I'm so freakin lazy, I have no idea when this will happen... Personally, I am not very creative, especially when it comes to decoration, so I'm just gonna follow the original style of the city with minimal additions. By the way, how did you map out the city?

the only way to map underground structures is to either A: Break all the blocks above it or B: at the surface, use carpets to replicate what the ancient city would look like, otherwise it's impossible.

We cleared out the sensors, shriekers, catalysts, and Sculk.. we're partially clearing out the Sculk* We are currently excavating the area around and above the City (something like 250 by 150 or 300+ blocks. I’m currently about to restore the ancient city underneath my base, and I’m so excited!!! I ended up mining 45 shriekers and 227 sensors, all by being patient. If a shrieker goes off you get one level added to your player, at three levels the warden spawns. Every 10 minutes without setting off another shrieker makes your level go down one. So whenever I would set one off I would just wait 10 minutes before continuing, and I had no issues!

You have far more patience than I, and probably most people, do. I ran around like a mad man with a hoe and basically everytime I set a shrieker off I now knew where one needed to be mined. All but a few spawned in buildings I was exploring/looting anyway though, so that made it easier to get many of them. I could've used wool, but being too lazy to get any I'd just clear out like 4 or 5 shriekers in one building and book it to the other side of the city to do the same thing in another building
