Two ways to dig a perimeter: 1. Make flying machines out of redstone components that could dupe explosives to get as much efficiency as possible at clearing out a large amount of volumes of land. 2. *Hands.*

I recently did the same thing here, only mine is 320x320 (20x20 chunks), digging out the perimeter down to y-59 and filling it with water, only I made sure to clear out ALL the water and lava so I could leave it running overnight (it took me ages because I thought building it in a swamp biome would be a good idea). For anyone wondering about good height to build the second level on, make sure the TNT is on y24, it'll comfortably get to at least y-60 I'm now in the process of placing more than 81000 froglights (they're easily farmable light source blocks) filling in the first bedrock layer to make way for a cool carpet design I want to build on top of it!

Arson and Flattening the area wasn't actually nessasary. It took you so much time, you could just build a 3rd flying machine just above the others to that job. I am making a perimeter of my own right now in my survival world and the highest cliff was arounf level 150, although it took me 3 flying machines in order to reach level -64. I used @RaysWorks world eater for my perimeter too and it digs down about 70 blocks. You just need to build it about 15 blocks above the highest block of land and it wont self break. So estimating with 3 flying machines in the correct hights you can dig down a perimeter of a land with a highest blocks of Y=146. Also this flying machine has no problem "deleting" the Deepslate area as it dows with the Stone area. :)

I did the smooth wall water thing once and never again since... Especially because you can't throw the tnt dupers into the water walls, there are big chunks of blocks that need to be mined manually or with more dupers on the lower layer. Just creating a bit larger perimeter and casting cobblestone walls afterwards is soo much faster.

i have a 30x30 hole i'm digging to bedrock right now for fun. i'm using moss for it, since i can insta-mine it easily and it replenishes itself (moss can be composted for bonemeal and the bonemeal, in turn, is used to spread moss. it doesn't spread to ores or gravel, which makes it perfect.) i've spent about 45 hours on it so far but there was 2 mineshafts in the way. i'm down to y -26 i think.
