My last two trucks before retirement were 550 Cats. One had a million on it before I bought the next one and put 750,000 on it before retiring. Never did a thing to either aside from oil and filters every 10,000. The golden age...gone.

I am the foreman at a school bus garage. We have 200 buses in our fleet. We switched to R99 almost 2 years ago. I was pretty nervous about it since we had so many issues when we switched to Biodiesel, but so far R99 has been great. We rarely have to force a regen on our fleet now. The only issue we have ran in to is the fuel/water separators seem to plug up more often.

Sorry about the motors guys, but I cant tell you how good it looks to see those hoods every day rather than plastic trucks. X15's and ISX's have always sounded like they were coming apart. Just my two cents. Take care. Todd the retired trucker.

In total rebuild situations you might consider Speed of Air pistons. The technology is over my head but the good results are adding up out there.

When you go to put new sleeves in check for side swap on upper receiver bore if they dont fit snug replace the block

Re-Power your trucks with the 12.7L Detroit... end of "issue's". Of course, drivers can be a root source of engine issue's, "sometimes", as well.

Liners must be set to 14 thousandth protrusion. I run thd ports on the east coast. Ports don't care if the trucks are deleted. We have a list of things we do to the X15s and they will outperform the Cats.

We run about 20 trucks, lowboys and dumps, harsh conditions and heavy, I’ve had the best luck with oem kit, and I only run APC stage 4 head, we stay with the vgt because of the weight we haul, only run delo and change at 10,000 normally for us between 500-600,000, we had one cm2250 snap a crank at 230,000

You mentioned about filters plugging up ?? Oil filter's. Cummins issued a builtin to service writers only , the egr cooler were leaking , before cummins would warranty you had to charge cooling system (2) times before cummins would consider warranty cummins was blaming it on aftermarket filters ( top of the line brands ?😅

if the engines are only 700k lifespan why not just starting swapping to like a red top or c15 to have that reliablity with jakes back

get a apu, stop idling, 30-35 thousand hours on your engines? go into insite, features and parameters, aftertreatment, dpf,enable the first two settings, your issues with aftertreatment will go away,
