We saved a beautiful bird | PORTUGAL FARM LIFE

This week Gina & Joaquim rescue an Iberian Stork (White Stork) that was trapped in some sheep fencing on a neighbouring farm. This poor Stork got stuck in the fence and was in a really bad way when we found him. Fortunately it has a happy ending and he flew off into the skies after a well earned rest!

Here is a little feel good video for Sunday... Our neighbour Joaquim was ploughing some fields with his tractor and discovered this trapped Iberian White Stork, trapped in a fence. They are a protected species in Portugal and its the first time that I've been able to see one of them this closely. I am so glad that Joaquim found it and called me to be able to document the rescue :)

You are good people, the stork could feel that you were there to help, they are intelligent birds that live above us a lot of the time. I work in a nature reserve on an estuary with many migrating birds. You were great and Gina took it to the next level.... Teamwork! Well done to you all!

Such an unexpected thing to have happened today. It was about 1 hour before I put the video up here. Was really special to get up and close with this large bird that is usually so far away from us to see properly. I'm so glad that we could help ir. And that he flew away on his own! Joaquim is taking care of the land at that property, but im not sure if anyone lives there.

@OKportugal I've talked the Bird Rescuer hear on the island one day on the beach. There was a Blue Heron, they stand over 3 1/2 ft tall.. it had fishing line with tackle wrapped around its legs. He said we did the right thing by calling instead of us trying to handle it, the birds beak is so sharp it would cut us up and we would be taking to the hospital with lacerations to the bone. So them birds with them foot long beak or more have my full respect and I stay away!!!

How wonderful this bird had enough energy to fly off on its own. Less stress & a better outcome for sure! I Googled stork symbolism just for fun for every time I see a special bird appear I'm always curious what it means! This is what it said: Storks have many symbolic meanings across cultures and religions, including: New beginnings In Christianity, Ancient Egyptian, and Native American cultures, storks symbolize new beginnings, such as the start of the new year. Spring Storks are considered harbingers of spring. Family values In Norse mythology, storks symbolize family values and purity, based on the belief that they are monogamous. Filial love Storks are associated with filial love because of the myth that they deliver babies. God's loyal love In the Bible, the Hebrew word for "stork" is hasidah, which is related to hesed, a term that describes Yahweh's kindness, love, mercy, and goodness. Storks are also regarded as unusually kind to their young. Peace White storks are often found in folklore and can represent peace, happiness, fertility, and rebirth. This old guy had a pet stork in the city my grandparents lived in. He had a broken wing that never really healed and would follow the guy around and mimic him. He would smoke a cigarette and the stork would go to his cigarette pack and steal a cigarette and put it in his mouth like it was smoking aswell. The stork would clack his beak when people clapped too. It was a smart bird.
