I've seen all three episodes ( I was doing a review for the BBC in Scotland) and they are truly amazing. It was like being in the rehearsal room with them for a month. They came over as so down to earth and real. The musical chemistry between them was wonderful and although there were moments of tension...the moments of sheer joy and fun were the most revealing. Mal Evans ( their tour manager) was brilliant with them and the excitement, especially from John, when Billy Preston joined them for the later sessions was palpable. I am 77 and was running my own record shops at this time so remember this period so well. Peter Jackson has brought it all back wonderfully and it feels and looks like it was filmed...yesterday. It's fab....

My favorite thing about the Get Back documentary it's how well it highlights the inmense love, respect and admiration all four members of the band felt towards each other. Even if there was friction at certain points- There were no screaming matches, no fist fights, no belittling, no berating. Its was refreshing seeing four men communicating in such a respectul manner.

Watching the birth of "Get Back" was genuinely one of the most memorable moments of film in my life. "Privileged" is the right word. Privileged to watch the inception of one of the classic songs of all time. Watching Paul tear up at the thought of the Beatles breaking up. Watching George help Ringo put "Octopus' Garden" together. Watching their genuine love for each other and their joy in playing. And John and Paul's private conversation acknowledging their own flaws and taking the blame for how George was feeling. All AMAZING.

I am up for it! Hoping for a director’s cut next year, Jackson in other interviews has mentioned 12 & 18 hours. The film was originally planned as 2.5 hours but the material was too great for such a limited film, then 6 hours were announced & apparently over the three night special, starting tonight, will total approximately 8 hours. I am so excited, have only watched every clip released in the promotion by Disney & journalists around the world, yet I still have high hopes eventually we will see more if not all 57-60 hours & hear the 130-150 hours of audio. I am 63, saw them at age 5 on Ed Sullivan & like most of my generation, have loved them & their music together & separately their music has been a very large part of the soundtrack of my life. Did I mention I am excited- feeling like today is Christmas Eve & I am a kid again.

This footage captures the creation of 2 of the best Beatles songs ever in Let it Be and Something. In addition, 2 of my personal favorites Don't Let me Down and Oh Darling. Yet still, the best moment caught on camera is Paul's face when someone (off mic) suggests playing on the roof. His face was amazing and suddenly he knew why they started this whole project.

I've come away after watching all 3 parts of Get Back with the belief that Michael Lindsay-Hogg was a terrible choice to direct the original footage. Not because he had no ability of experience; it's because he didn't understand The Beatles. He never connected with the band on a personal level or made any real attempt to understand what they were going through. He was, jusifiably, concerned about his film and how the interpersonal relationships in the band would impact it. I never believed Lindsay-Hogg was interested in the guts of the story but merely in the filming of the recording. Peter Jackson's film proves my point; there was an emotional connection to the band and he could take his time - unlike in 1970. It was never about recording but about the band, who they were, and how they got along. Thanks to Peter Jackson for telling us the whole story.

One thing which struck me is how contemporary the four Beatles seem, while everyone else seems from another time. The concert on the roof, and the contrast between the band and the onlookers, is the most obvious example of this: it is as though the Beatles have travelled back in time for that concert.

I have watched this the fourth time & only now realize that the dissecting of the Beatles is far from over. I already knew that Beatle biographer Mark Lewisohn is still writing additional books, in an attempt to cover all of their history, #4 is due to be released next year. Mark has actually written approximately 15 books about the Beatles, their contemporaries & the era of the British music invasion. He isn’t even the authorized biographer. Paul McCartney has just released two volumes of lyrics, photos, memories & commentary, through 2 publishers - one British the other American. At least 1000 books have been published about the Beatles- I now expect more. KZbin has many channels dedicated to their music, their lives & the era of their hay day, often dissecting the music, lyrics, personalities, the times the music was written & recorded - remastered etc. I see this series expanding this, as well. I think only some political leaders (Lincoln, Churchill, JFK et.al) possibly religious leaders (Moses, Abraham, Christ, Mohammed, Budda, etc.) have had as much time dedicated to telling their stories. Kinda astonishing.

The first scenes from Get Back caught my breath. Did we metaport the Beatles to 2022 or did we hop into the Doloreon with MJF back to 1969? Or is Peter Jackson teasing us all? Wow is an understatement. Stephen’s interview with Peter is so restrained - don’t just get back , don’t hold back! You both love the Beatles. It’s like seeing a 5 year old hold back just before they let loose on their gifts under the Christmas tree:) Love these two together.

Before Yoko, the Beatles had a pact that they would not bring their girlfriends/wives into the studio. The Beatles were to remain the Fab Fours. Then Yoko came and John changed and she started to not only be around for each recording, but participating. That's when Paul and the others started to see that the end of the Beatles was coming. The others started to bring their wives around. There were big clashes but in the end, they just decided to break up. Besides, George had a few songs that he wrote and that never made on a Beatles album and so did Ringo. They never stopped being friends (if not family) but they knew that they had to go their own way.
