We Slept in an Abandoned Campground | Trans-Labrador Highway Remote Overlanding Adventure - E.5
Driving away from our overland camping site on a forest access road, we took the ZR2, hauling our off-road teardrop trailer back to the Trans Labrador Highway proper. We left early in the morning so we could eat breakfast on the remote road and save time breaking camp that morning. It wasn’t long before we were in Happy Valley-Goose Bay where we did laundry and went hiking with kids. We drove out of town towards Northwest River and found a place to call home for the night at an abandoned campground where we pulled up right on Gosling Lake. I set up the Tapui rooftop tent and then used my STIHL chainsaw to cut up firewood for our wood stove. Country food of Arctic Char was for dinner that night along with salad using lettuce, we grew in our vegetable garden.

Fun adventure. You're blessed to live in canada with so much unspoiled wilderness. Cant wait to see the moose hunt. I took a woodland caribou in Newfoundland probably 15 years ago or a little more. Beautiful country. caught my best brooktrout ever while there. (Not as big as big daddy Baird's brooktrouts, but pretty good) Be blessed and thanks for sharing

Hey guys! Have to say what great content and really enjoy your channel. We are very familiar with Labrador as we lived there for 11 years together before moving back to Newfoundland. I hope you get back there again and can experience a little more of the amazing aboriginal culture there, if you haven’t already. We frequented Gosling Lake several times a week with our kayaks and to bring our dogs for a cool down in the summer, as we lived in the area with our dogs and horses. We are both from Newfoundland, but was so connected there, that we also feel Labrador is a close second home. Your video actually made us both feel very “homesick” for Goose Bay. Some beautiful people and beautiful surroundings there. If you happen to get back to Newfoundland, look us up, we can show you a few gems around the West Coast that you may find awesome. Keep up the great work! My husband and I are hooked on your channel now! We cant wait to see what you guys do next. Happy and safe adventures guys and hugs for the kiddos. Tina and Jim

At 11:49 we see Hudson picking up a chonk of fire wood as a 1 year old! What kind of strength will he have as a 5 year old or 10 year old. No body else has videos of their 1 year old picking up chonks of fire wood like that. I know you did not try for the shot. He just did it. That makes it even more impressive. He wants to do all the things. So cool to see your family adventure.

Tori is a great mom, you and your boys are lucky men! I envy that type of family bond… loving this series with the whole family, and just like all the others, I’m getting a kick of mapping out the route you take.. I’m mapped out everything from the Arctic Watershed trip where you travelled the North French River, to where you and Ted travelled from the barrington to the mouth of the seal river… I love following your adventures and this is no exception, other than the fact that this trip is wholesome as any adventure can be! The reason I follow along on the map, is because sometimes the video doesn’t do it Justice. When you actually map out the routes you’ve taken, it makes me respect these trips on an entirely new level!

Well alright 🥰!! Nice dream gift for you guys! Major rant below: Our first TearDrop trailer was pulled by a Toyota 4Runner. The manufacturer CampInn Trailers in Necedah, WI. custom built it to our trailer to our needs (being minimalists) for our first fulltime RV adventure in 2001 (Odyssey I). Not a Space Ody.. Our very first adventure together in 1993(24/7) was a perimeter bicycle fully loaded tour in the USA! ..over 2800 road bicycle miles ridden to end up in LA. It morphed into a stint working, at Sequoia National Park, CA. We did phone interviews for our jobs working at Sequoia N.P. Me, I, as a Chef (my first pro job in fine cooking) for me. And my wife, was accepted as the Executive Housekeeping/ Cabin Manager. At the start/ prepping for the tourist season mid-March 1995 was interesting, snow wall/ tunnels; buried cabin needed digging out.. There were huge "Cinnamon" Black Bears emerging from their winter hibernation with hungary cubs. Oh boy!! We did long snowshoe hikes without our Black Bear/ Cougar training. The Sequoia National Park officials were surprised and concerned, about our undocumented trip, that we didn't have a negative bear encounter.. We saw plenty of scat and prints but our only encounter was a single male feeding lazily in a meadow, near the end of our 7 hour hike. We were planning on staying overnight at an ol hunters cabin located at the halfway point but it was still buried in snow. We almost missed seeing it as we passed by.. Great experiences!! My only scary experience while there at SNP was taking the trash out to locked dumpsters at the end of a restaurant cooking shift. We (the executive chef & I) were bluff charged by a repeat pesky black bear who frequently visited that dumpster. Heart be still!! We both stood our ground; banged pots and opened our jackets screaming at him! (both of us were big guys but the EC was 6'6') The male black bear was captured the next day and dropped off/ transported 50 miles away. This was his 3rd strike and the NPS euthanizes repeaters. The bear in question's first encounter was breaking into an SUV that had toothpaste in the vehicle, we heard. The door was ripped open like nothing. This one bear knew how to break into vehicles that even had empty coolers inside!?! In all, we have been lucky avoiding animal encounters, 2 & 4 legged! Sleeping with alligators under a bridge in Miss, drunk sheriff harassments because I carried mace, pack of coyotes devouring a locally sourced chicken. While she sleeps, I should add, in our 3 person SerriaDesigns tent.. to Tundra Swan attacks kayaking, dolphin prodding our kayaks on the east coast intercoastal waterway, fishing for Bull Redfish with an alligator stealing it from us!! (southeast Texas/ Gulf of Mexico), and EF1 while tornadoe(s) close encounters made us scream in our tent (in our 30+ years of adventures..) The stories we could share!! Stay Safe!

It must have been exhausting driving, setting up camp, and picking up camp everyday with two little ones to care for. Laundromats are the best, you can put your laundry in several machines at the same time and then dry. Two hours, your done. At home, with only one machine, it can take many, many hours. It will be nice when you can set up camp in one location. Love this trip. Beautiful land.

Hello brother. Again you make me jealous. Love seeing the kids, watching them grow up . I’m not a salmon fan at all so you can have my share😜 Anyhow after watching your last episode, had to get out, so I broke out the backpack and zero degree sleeping bag and headed out for a overnight hike in and hike out . Temps lows were around 25 Fahrenheit so I think my dog Frodo was colder than myself. I ended up taking my jacket off and covered him because he was shivering. Anyhow, enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic - I'm loving this trip already. The camping rig is amazing. I started building these back in the 1980's. My first rig had started life as a 1970 Apache folding camper. I think it caught on in the 90's when I took a brand new top of the line and made it off road capable. It wasn't long before more capable people were displaying them at the international sportsman's shows in major cities. These type rigs are the way to go where the pavement ends and the trails begin. No cotton, cotton blend, cotton denim, or canvas fabrics for me. Fast drying quick rinsing is choice. Base layers have tended to mimick the soft poly cotton but that's not ideal. The quick dry polyester base and mid layer should have a visible weave with a slightly coarse texture. These woven plastics speed dry in seconds compared to the thin silky smooth polyfiber materials so popular today. You want to see and feel the weave. These also last forever - super tough. Polyester fleece did the same stupid thing - fashion popularity consumer demand. However, the fluffy soft poly fleece isn't good. It holds dirt and water and hair while letting the wind blow through. Originally, polartec 500 fleece was pretty good - new high tech but it got better quickly - it got thicker and more compact - so compact that it became smooth not fluffy. These are the best of the best - they don't hold hair, dirt, water or let any wind through. Microfiber towels from the automotive section are perfect for everything in my opinion. They are my bath towel, kitchen and hand towel and car towel. Coarse visible weave on base and mid layer. Smooth hard tight polar fleece. No cotton denim canvases. I'm old so I have to speak. ✌️♥️👍👍
