Hi Catherine! What an amazing vlog!!! We were on the train to Nagoya after two days in Kyoto when this video was published and I was so so scared of getting major FOMO that I decided to not watch it until our trip was over hehe. We came back home last night and now I thought it was finally time to watch it. Stunning vlog! Kyoto was my favorite place and I also think I’ll have to go back. Also, we went to Fushimi Inari at dawn as well and I was disappointed I wasn’t going to get the iconic picture at the gates because of the lack of light and how reflective the red paint is for flash photos but it didn’t matter in the end because it was magical at night and quiet and calm. Your Japan vlogs definitely helped me plan our trip and what I didn’t want to miss under no circumstance (like the Sumikko Gurashi shop cuz I’m a fan!!) and I know that when I want to revisit the trip, taking a look at my pictures and watching your lovely edited vlogs will bring all the memories back in no time. You’re amazing!

Japanese sweet potatoes are white sweet potatoes that have a texture and taste between that of regular potatoes and the sweet potatoes that we are used to. I developed an allergy to regular potatoes over the years, and miss French fries so much, but when I can find white sweet potatoes in nearby shops, we can make sweet potato fries that taste like regular fries. Now I am tempted to put one through my spiralizer and try to make one of those spiral potatoes on a stick with it. I imagine it would be delicious in a honey soy glaze.

As a Japanese person, I would like to share this with you: In Japan, the prices at local supermarkets are much cheaper than at convenience stores or vending machines. Bread, boxed lunches, and drinks are cheap, and some supermarkets even have discount stickers in the evening that make them even cheaper. Drinks are also less than 100 yen. First, try going to a local supermarket.

Your Osaka hotel reminds me of the one I stayed at during my trip. It was tricky to get the keys and the elevator was like a tiny tin can 😂 also really appreciate the clips of your visit to the shrine. I had visited during the day but I was the only one that wanted to climb all the way to the top (and we didn’t have time) so we ended up just walking around the shrine at the base. Great job on walking up all those steps!

I went into a Tully's coffee in Osaka and half the tables were empty with designer purses, laptops, expensive bags etc on them left unattended. Being from NYC I was so confused and worried for the owners. I had to play it cool and pretend it was normal to me so as not to arouse suspicion that I was going to take one of the bags, LOL. But yeah, you don't have to worry about anyone stealing your stuff in Japan and probably most of East and Southeast Asia.
