The wheel weaves and another episode comes to pass. Today we discuss episode 6! This video has no business being as long as it is, but there was a lot of things that needed to be discussed from what was a very interesting episode.

Very much enjoyed this episode. The Moiraine + Siuan scenes were all great. On the flip side, they seem to have given up trying to present and progress the main plot in a satisfying way. In the end I think season 1 will feel like a slightly awkward and weird prologue of sorts to the real show starting in s2. Just like book 1 was to the book series. I certainly wouldn't want to be responsible for adapting the Eye of the World, one of the weaker books in the series, with a very strange end that feels like a fever dream compared to the more well conceived story that is built from book 2 and onwards.

I think great hunt is where the series really starts to take off and become its own. I understand what they are TRYING to do with this season. There is a lot of groundwork that needs to be laid for character motivations and why people act the way they do, later in the series. We won't have inner dialogue, so they've been trying to add back story as to why people make the decisions they do. A big thing in the series is siuan and moiraine working in secret, and the consequences if that secret. The impact it has shapes a lot of the series so it needs to be clear. I have a strong feeling season 2 will hit serious strides once this season lays the groundwork.

With Egwene the interesting element for me vs Siuan was that she was able to split her weaves between two different tasks, distracting Valda and freeing Perrin. Though I did like the finesse that was shown with Siuan at such an early age with a complicated task. It hopefully bodes well for her power in the present day of the show.

I'm sure Siuan enjoys being in a submissive role after being a leader most of her life. That's usually how they portray stuff like that in shows too. Look at Paul Giamatti in Billions.

in all seriousness, which part of the writing don't you like? The overall way they are writing the season? the way the individual episode was put together? or how they write the character interactions? or all of thee above? No need to say why, but it's good for me to understand other people's opinions.

@@Kevinbaconator_ Thanks for your question. I am really struggling with the language vernacular that they have chosen to eliminate. An example would be Lan calling Rand “sheep herder” or Mat saying “burn me” and no use of the old tongue by Mat. The characterization of main characters like no pulling of the braid to show how mad Nynaeve was at something or someone. Making Mat’s dad a dead beat dad. A misunderstanding that Aes Sedai rank themselves based on power and that women who can touch the one power can be felt by Aes Sedai. This idea that nobility plays a roll or poverty plays a roll in rank among the Aes Sedai it going to cause character problems in the future. These are some of my issues. Thanks

@@mattafrack5613 it hasn't been suggested that nobility plays a role in the ranking of Aes Sedai in the show, in fact the precise opposite was made clear in this episode, that was what the cold open was there for. Nynaeve has been shown pulling on her braid in the show, several times. Her fierce nature has also been made abundantly clear in pretty much every scene she's been in. Making Abel Cauthon a deadbeat dad has added to Mat's characterisation, by giving him a motivation to get away from the Aes Sedai/return home and showing his sympathetic and protective nature. (This isn't made clear in the books until book 3, Mat is massively under developed in the first 2 novels). I can understand that people may be put off the show because it doesn't match how they imagined it when reading the books. However you seem to be criticising it for not doing things that it has done, that you simply appear to have missed. I would argue that other than with Rand and maybe Egwene, the show has actually been better than the first book in terms of character development. It has given deeper insights into Nynaeve, Mat, Perrin, Lan and certainly Moiraine than Eye of the World did.
