Helpful tip? Use a permanent marker to draw lines, somewhere on your boat, which represent the minimum sizes for crab, lobster, etc. That way you won’t have to carry a rule.

That's very clever! Thanks to my clever grandmother, I can measure an inch w the first digit of my index finger and "smell a yard" (measure a yard of fabric by holding one point to my nose and stretch the fabric out a given distance w my right thumb and index finger). But I have wished for a way to have other measurements close to hand, too. Marking the measurements on the boat sounds terrific.

Seeing your marshmallows made me want to share with you a Canadian camping tradition called S’mores. The traditional recipe is 2 graham crackers, squares from your favourite chocolate bar and your toasted marshmallow. Not sure if you get graham crackers but I think a lovely variation would be to use 2 digestive biscuits in lieu. So - take your biscuit, put a square or two of your favourite chocolate bar on it, put the toasted warm marshmallow on it, more chocolate pieces and a biscuit top --- making a sandwich sort of. It’s so delicious and no camping trip in Canada is complete without s’mores! Hope you try it! Hello from Vancouver. BTW - my great Auntie was the district nurse in Waternish - I have many happy memories from childhood visits there when we went back for visits from our home in Canada (Vancouver). Love your stories!

Or put the marshmallow in between 2 chocolate digestives, choccy side next to the marshmallow……. S’mores the UK way. Love your new slippers and bunnet btw, suits you👌

That would certainly work too! We like lots and lots of chocolate on ours. And of course you always want to eat some more and some more and some more - hence S’mores!

Marsh mallows over an open fire, otherwise called smores, work best one marsh mallow sandwiched between two digestive biscuits. Even more decadent, chocolate digestives, with the chocolate against the warm smore (so it melts!). We visited Skye skins and the cafe in the yurt last year - and I also bought a Harris tweed cap!

Spent a glorious week on Waternish 8 or 9 years ago on our first trip to Scotland (right around the No vote time), stayed in a self-catering right up the road from Skyeskyns (great place, and thanks for taking us, I had quite forgotten it!). We started in Glasgow, spent a couple of nights near Oban, drove to Fort William and my more stalwart pals climbed Ben Nevis, then a week on Skye, then onto Harris and Lewis, back to Ullapool and then Edinburgh. Our friends had prepared us for rain and spitty weather but it was fair and sunny our whole month in Scotland, save 2 days. I got savaged by midges twice-once on the scalp-what fierce little buggers those are! but otherwise it was heaven on earth. Your sunset was glorious. Cheers to you both and behind the ear scratches for Jack Spaniels. Loving your channel to pieces. ❤❤❤

My goodness sky skins has really changed and grown!! When we visited in the late 1990s, they showed us a few skins and we chose out a couple that we bought. They didn't even offer the beautiful things that you showed like the slippers, the blankets, the checkerboard pattern And all the other beautiful things! I'm so glad to see that they have done so well, as this means, they'll be around for a good many more years. Thanks for showing their main shop. When we visited, they were so new, or were struggling so hard, but it was hard to even catch them open enough to see what they had.

I remember my first beach sunset. We were camping on Oakakroke Island in NC, USA. In a tent with my mom, dad, brother and baby sister. We were gigging for flounder along the tideline. It was so beautiful. The waves, the breeze, and the orange glow. Even at age 6, I remember that. Oh and gigging flounder requires an innertube to float the metal wash tub, a strong light to shine down on the water and a broom handle with a curved nail in the end (the gigg). You look for the two side by side blue eyes of the flounder, and then stick it with the gigg. Put it in the washtub and keep going till you have enough to eat.
