I love seeing you all do this! Mariah Patty made it for her wedding! Rachel Maksy made hers and took it to England for a photo shoot at a historical site. And you have been working on this for a long time but sometimes you just need to sit on a project until you're ready and I am so excited to see what's next!

glad i am not the only one who can start a project and leave it sitting for 3 years and come back to it later

I am so glad you persevered over 4 years. The dress is simply wonderful!! Somethings are worth it and this dress is an amazing work of art. 🎉

love how 2023 seems to be the year of this particular dress! this is the third video to come across my youtube homepage dedicated to recreating this specific dress and i've enjoyed watching them all, despite not seeing the movie... yet. i swear i will get around to doing that some day :D

If you think about it, it tracks.... The film came out 25 years ago, so it made an impact on a lot of very young girls, who are now adults, who are finding their own independence in their creativity! ❤

I love listening to you think through your problems. It’s what I do. Sometimes it just helped to say things out loud and hear them not just think it…

When the other versions of KZbinrs making this dress started coming out I was searching madly for your version. I watched the beginning and was thinking I just missed the final project. I am so glad that you are finishing it I love your style of video and sewing. I love hearing the way that you think about things and work through problems because it is very familiar.

I have projects which have sat on the back burner for 10+ years. 4 years for a seriously complicated project that looks that good? That's fine! 😂

I love the dress and the movie so much, im so excited to see the final product. And don’t feel bad about the time, things take as long as they take and it really is better to take your time instead of rushing through. As we speak I have a dress project that certainly wasn’t supposed to take a year to finish but here we are lol

The arm gusset might not be movie dress accurate but is probably time period accurate so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Excited to see the next video!

Yesss! More of the dress! Breathe tea party of all the dress owners. Hehe I know nothing about the dress, I only know about the 3 I’ve seen this year but the Italian renaissance is a look. Maybe I’ll make something similar one day.

I remember the very first video in this series and I’m so glad that you got to complete it! Very exciting haha. I even felt inspired to make my own honestly (although it might take me 4 years too tbh). It came out beautifully (saw in last video)!

I absolutely love when things take time ! 4 years to complete GO YOU!!!!! crafts take time !! and yes the pauses are part of the process.. always celebrate when you turn an unfinished project into a simple hiatus for creativity :)

It turned out lovely. It just goes to show that you don't have to make an absolutely dupe of a famous dress to get the same effect and vibes.

YOU ARE AMAZING! AND, you bear a striking resemblance to a young queen amelie of Orleans, queen consort of portugal. And you have the corsets...the face, the hair, the heritage.... Would be a great project! I'm working on trying to pick which portuguese royal I most look like so I can make a heritage project ballgown but I'd love to see you take it on. ❤🇵🇹

Looking at the image of the hem on the original dress, my guess for that seam you can see is that they had to piece the hem to get the width. It looks identical to the many pieced hems that I've made over the years.

I've had overlocker issues with tension that seemed to only work on the rolled hem setting. it was because what I wasoverlocking was thin there wasn't enough bulk to pad out the overlocking and the threads had more space than the fabric was using so it was far too loose. tightening it seemed useless. I solved it by doing big long and wide stitches. the extra length of making them as long and wide as possible meant there was more fabric enclosed in the overlocking threads which up for the fabric being too thin.

I was thinking the same thing about putting in a gusset. I really appreciate you showing us your mental processes because it does reassure me that like you said, sewing isn't linear. I think that's probably true for a lot of the arts.
