DISCLAIMER: the mean prank was planned for weeks, was first suggested by Rob, and we all found it hilarious, but we also very much complimented his great first paint jobs and made sure he painted several so we didn't destroy his first mini! We didn't think the skit would discourage new participants to the hobby, we were more getting a giggle out of a scenario that made us all laugh, probably because we are always positive and encouraging with each other's participating in the hobby and we feel safe enough with each other to joke in this way, sorry if it came across uncomfortably for you. We love Rob and know he did a GREAT first paint job!!

@@sirbaconbuster Up until now i've used a tiny takeaway container so it's a lot of realestate that I may not need but I just wanted the option. Better to have and not need than the other way and if nothing else the paper will last longer, as I inch across it, before needing changing. Got it through a 3rd party retailer for slight discount and XL was only £9 extra than the standard which isn't too much in this hobby. Saying that I think I'd be happy either way. XL is about A4 paper size and I'd imagine standard is around A5.

A little constructive criticism and general comments for you: 1. With OSL - less is more, you get a better effect overall by making the glow smaller - the further away it is from the source the more of the underling colour should show - so less of the white stippling. 2. When undercoating a section in white before painting its a good idea to apply multiple coats or even better to start with a grey then move to white. Change the grey to light brown for warm colours or light blue for cold colours. 3. That base was awesome happy painting gents.

@@narratordave7831 Ah good to know. I think since Rob is really only in the video for the initial gag, it isn't really clear if or how he was involved in any of the future design or execution. In future, it would be great to include a little context from Rob (or whoever) on what they want to achieve. My interpretation from the video was just that "other people paint them black instead". Still loving the content, just would have loved to here more from rob beyond the initial gag

TBH his first mini was already really nice and I prefer his first one, but thats completely subjective. And your attempt, sure its nice too, but its completely different and you can't compare it. - sometimes you just have s newbie do his thing to let him develope an own style, since he will now try to replicate that "new" and "better" version, instead of trying things by himself.
@narratordave78313 жыл бұрын
I think something that got left on the cutting room floor is the explaination that 1) Rob only painted his necron that way because it was what the boxart said on his 'learn to paint necron warriors' pack. and 2) He wants to paint the Thokt dynasty, which is how the second necron appears. We showed him 3 different ways to approach OSL and loaded him up with heaps of different basing materials. It comes off a little like "No paint it like this" when in reality there was a heap of discussion about how to use different techniques to achieve different effects. In fact the whole second model was like a 1 hour crash course in drybrushing, line highlighting and then basic OSL.
