Really enjoyed this one. Lost count how many TFL narratives this guy pushed back on. Why no manuals? Turns out they don’t sell. EV’s are being forced “down our throats”. Turns out they aren’t. He went on and on. Really hoping this helps you guys see that it’s time to push the narrative on the so many of your stories forward. Negative stuff might get clicks for some. I look to TFL for better.

10 years ago, my brother was as car saleman; he said that back then, manuals were highly requested, but parents kept buying them for their teenager and then bring in a broken clutch and transmission for warrantee repair multiple times. It was becoming a real pain to dispute abuse and neglect on the vehicle, so they just stopped selling manuals to solve the problem.

Manuals made up less than 2% of sales in 2022. While there has been a SMALL resurgence in people driving/wanting manuals, it's a VERY small percentage of people. Americans are lazy. Most Americans don't even know how to drive stick (only about 18% of Americans know how to drive a manual) let alone want to learn and buy a new manual car. I ask myself all the time why more cars aren't made with a manual option, but that's the answer. The numbers aren't there. I'm not thrilled about it, but my feelings aren't going to change facts.

I think you are confusing the narrative in the TFL COMMENTS SECTION with TFL. I don't hear TFL talking any of the nonsense you are talking about, if anything its the opposite.

Nice to hear some of this information out there . . . I sold cars one summer while waiting to get into the job I really wanted. I wasn't good at it, but, made a little money and it helped me in the long run when I went to buy cars. I've had some really good experiences purchasing new cars over the years (Appleway of Spokane & Power Chev in Helena, I'm talking to you 😀👍) . I've also had a few bad experiences buying used cars (Bellevue Nissan & Lithia of Burien 😡😡. Oddly, or not, buying the two new cars was a much more pleasant experience and I got both below sticker, one way below sticker. Politics sucks. You will have your ICE vehicles for many decades, gas stations are not going away. Saying otherwise is political propaganda and flat out lies meant to incite anger and frustration and attract votes. Period! - Do not bring up California. They pass a lot of bills saying this and that, but none of the mandates have been met and they are doing nothing to enforce it. Hmmmm I would be surprised if it's only 10% of crappy dealers . . . at least 20%, closer to 25% would not surprise me. Greed is an addiction, and owners of dealership are too temped by the ability to make more money by using mark ups and playing with the numbers and add-ons to hide useless fees and supposed upgrades. One of your allied internet auto reviewers (AoA) just picked up a lease on a new Equinox EV; $6700 total payment, 10k miles a year for a two year lease. That is a great deal, Tommy!

There is a Ford Dealership here that stopped doing market adjustments, but every one of their cars have mystery add ons valued at 2-3k generally. My local Harley-Davidson dealer still does market adjustments. Fuugetaboutit!

I feel the colors are a circular argument. You sell black, white, gray and silver because you sell those colors, and then you order more of those colors which then results in you selling more of those colors again. I think proof that people do want colors is through Subaru. I listened to another podcast about car colors and the Outback’s most popular colors, there’s actually some that aren’t the traditional black and white. Also, equity depends on the brand. I feel like leasing a Ford is a terrible decision. But Honda and Toyota lease well. I’m glad they didn’t over charge MSRP. It’s wild to me that people paid 5-25K over sticker for a Kia Telluride.

What it really is, is that no one really complains about a black grey or white car. Most people shop features and model first, and color second. Thing is, if it's a color they don't like it doesn't matter what features it has, it's going to be a hard sell. Most are "okay" with a black white or grey car and will settle if it has the right configuration. Subaru having more varied colors in its most popular list isn't suprising at all when you consider the target market of Subaru. It's a similar market to Andre's truck. Outdoorsy, adventurous, bold and youthful (in spirit at least.) Jeep captures a similar market, which is why Jeep vehicles tend to stand out in a parking lot. My last vehicle was an Omaha Orange Renegade and it was not hard to find.

@@AHungryHunky I don't disagree about it being an easier sell. What's interesting is that the popularity of white, black, silvery and gray is only from the 2000s. In the podcast I listened to, a lot of people attribute it to the take off of the technology, and iPhone.

He says he never charged over sticker... I wonder if that would include "specialty models", i.e., Golf R. I'm not in his part of PA, but around here, they all seemed to have ADM. One of the reasons I didn't buy one earlier this year.
@Cloud30000
@Cloud30000 Ай бұрын
The trick is to change the sticker; $1000 for paint protection, $4000 for specialty delivery, etc. still sticker price, but that sticker now includes an extra $10k of add-on over MSRP

Their is a store in a sales tax state located right on the border of a non-sales tax state; they need up buying a lot across the border which is just an office, and they just bring the vehicle over to the office and finish the paper work there to sell the vehicle without sales tax for residents of that state.

Re: Saturn. My best, hands down, leaps and bounds beyond, dealer experience of the last 10 years has been with Tesla. Ordered the car online for a fixed price, good value for trade-in, purchase day was all on the tablet, done in 15-20 minutes. Fantastic. I paid cash for a 6-figure Lexus last year and was in the dealership for 3 hours, mostly filling out their required credit application / identity theft paperwork. Bought a Bolt EUV from CarMax earlier this year and same thing, 3 hours. Not as much run around as the Lexus, they just had a slow process and were a little understaffed. Point being, for me "the dealership model" has outlived its usefulness. I've seen nothing but worse deals and worse customer service.

This just seems like an ad for the dealer. Also cash is king still, yes dont expect any low ball offers to go through. But having cash on hand to outright purchase your vehicle is far better than paying interest, on a depreciating asset. So yes. Cash gets you the best deal. not to be mentioned. Salesmen are a joke at dealerships, 75% of the time your talking to someone who has no idea about the cars they are selling or what people want. ALSO. You should deal with smaller dealers, depending on the place. Alot of them love cash. And will negotiate. For nearly 4 years now ive been doing pre-purchase inspections, and i often help with negotiation. I would highly suggest people bring a mechanic friend. And if you dont got one, go hang out at oriellys for a bit. Get a phone number eventually 😂

Andre,.... be more pro EV.. the cost to operate a Ev is certainly less than a gas/diesel vehicle.. no oil and transmission issues.. yes they need tires more often but electricity is certainly less expensive than gas..
