So I had the 2.5 backcountry diesel kit with sway bar upgrades and radius arms. I’m told the 7.3L is about 700 lbs lighter which seems a lot to me. I thought the ride would be a lil harsher because it’s lighter. Not the case the truck still rode better then stock on 37” tires. Call CJC they will put you on the right path.

Ford right now has the HD market figured out. The Ram needed aftermarket help to make it look as nice as it does in this video where Ford makes that Tremor package that already gives it the lift and bigger tires, yes the ford here has aftermarket wheels on it also, but point is you can get a bigger truck right from Ford if you choose with warranty. Ram only puts their base detuned Cummins in their 2500 series where as Ford gives you the same 475/1050 6.7 they use in all their SD trucks thus completely dominating Ram's 2500 offering. You have to get a Ram 3500 to get the Cummins HO to try to keep up to a new powerstroke, these guys nicely downplayed the acceleration and towing performance difference between them. It took Ford a few tries to make a great diesel, it's just what they needed to be taken seriously after the 6.0 and 6.4 debacles.

@peace out He said interior. You'd have to be blind to think that Ford comes close to RAM's interior. The RAM looks better than many luxury cars, the Ford look like a truck. The exception are Ford seats which are without question the best in the business. Funny with so much attention to detain on their new truck that RAM stopped short with the seats. Guess they ran out of money. Anyway, RAM doesn't offers a panoramic roof or any power adjustable steering column either. So Ford and GM are ahead in those.

I have always been a ford guy but I have had many Chevys as well, I have one of both right now. But I just ordered a new ram, they are such a different truck than they used to be. You can't beat the Cummins engine, (cp3 in the 21+ FTW) but the transmissions are falling behind in strength, definitely shift better with the new valve body and tuning though. I am not worried about the transmission because the 68rfe's have been around so long there are tons of upgrades and fixes, they are also super easy to rebuild.

What I learned from this video is that I want one of each lol. Great break down guys, both trucks are really impressive offerings and you can't really go wrong either way...unless you get one of those hideous new GM trucks...then you're lost haha. One question for both of you about both brands- These new high end trim trucks come with all kinds of new safe features like automatic braking, collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, traction control, stability control, etc. Can those features be turned completely off? How annoying are they? Not a fan of lane keeping at all. Can the traction control and stability control be turned off completely? I think I remember TC not being able to be fully disabled on my '18 Ram 3500 as it would come on again above a certain speed (35mph I think). How does this affect running in sand, dirt, trails, at speed? Thank you. Edit: Oh and I am hearing on CompD that the new Fords can do 700hp with just a tune only : ) .
@CJCOffRoad
@CJCOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Good questions. The lane departure etc isn't a hassle in our experience, and thankfully we have no issues running our brand new trucks in the dirt. Our 2019 shop truck has seen some good dirt miles and with the traction control off you can still have a ton of fun. The power delivery isn't as instant on these new trucks as it is on say a 2006 5.9 because of the torque management, but they still get down. With the new Fords you have to press and then press and hold to turn off traction control and Advance track.

Auto Buildz , I see where you’re going with your theory. But the Cummins isn’t a slouch. That’s the reason why Firepunk Diesel out of Ohio chooses the Cummins as their primary choice of diesel trucks to build. Open the hood of a Ford and you’ll have 4 hours of labor before you even see a valve cover. I work on these trucks. The inline also has more parts distribution due to its longer existence Ford changes the Powerstroke over and over. V8 diesels in small truck is a terrible concept for the long haul. It’s also more expensive. You want to start removing your cab at 200k miles have at it.😉

Good video. You mention mediocre fuel mileage with the Ford. This is at odds with my 2017 F-350 Diesel, Crew Cab, Long bed, 4x4, with the economical 3.31 gears and stock (~32 inch diameter), 6 speed automatic. The video mentioned ~15 MPG. I get substantially better mileage. But I notice that the MPG varies GREATLY as a function of speed. (Should be no surprise given how massive these trucks are) 1) On a 260 mile trip climbing up over the Sierra (7200' elevation), down to near sea level and back, at 60 MPH, the MPG was 21.0 MPG. 2) On a 900 mile, one-way trip with a mix of hills and level, averaging between 60 and 65 MPH, the MPG was 20.0. With the 48 gallon fuel tank found on long beds, I went the entire distance without refueling and still had a little fuel to spare . 3) On highway at 65 MPH, the MPG generally is 19 MPG. 4) On a trip through Utah where the legal speed on the interstate is 80 MPH, I ran between 80 and 85 MPH. The mileage dropped to an appalling 13.6 MPG All these tests were done without towing a trailer, and with less than 600 lbs of load. The 3.31 gears help and is still rated for ~14,000 pound towing, which is more than I plan to tow. Based on my experience, a friend purchased a 2020 F-350 Diesel, Crew Cab, Short bed, 4x4, 3.31 gears, larger 35" tires, and 10 speed automatic. The 10 speed offers a lower low and a higher high gear. Whereas I go 40 MPH/1000 RPM, his combination of transmission and tires runs ~44 MPH/1000 RM. Even with more aggressive acceleration and faster driving, he also gets ~20 MPG. At 65 MPH pulling a 7400 lb trailer, he gets ~15 MPG highway on level terrain. In addition the 2020 Diesel has 475 HP and 1050 lb-ft of torque compared to my 440 HP and 925 lb-ft (Not that I have any complaints about the 2017's power and torque) One other comment: The 6 speed's reverse gear is quite tall, taller than first gear! This is annoying when backing a trailer up a hill. In contrast, the 10 speed's reverse gear is a whopping FIFTY PERCENT lower than that on the 6 speed - much better

I work on these trucks all day every day. One thing I'll tell you is that everyone has already made up their mind. And that's because everyone values different things. There isn't much that one can do that the other can't. They're both excellent work horses. And trust me neither is easier to work on. RAM's are awful to diagnose, especially when it comes to electrical/module problems. And they're by far more expensive to own and maintain. Ford's arrangement of hardware is... imaginative. And simple issues can become headaches in their own right. From a guy who's been playing with cars since he could walk trust me: make up your damn mind. I prefer Ford's and can explain why I, just myself, think they're better all around. But if you like the RAM or the Duramax, get yourself the damn truck.

@@paulmorris6177 I looked for a CPO. You really only save a bout 10% on a 1 year old CPO of this type. The CPO gave me a 7 year power train that I upgraded to a 7 year bumper to bumper Ford Warrantee and maintenance plan. You only get this capability with a CPO. otherwise you get a second party warrantee. I set my search criteria and continued to refresh the browser until the truck I was looking for appeared. The Super Duty Trucks are in high demand.

I think the factory ride quality is stiff also because most people want to upgrade the stock suspension immediately out the gate before the truck even has 20k miles on it. Like most guns and mechanical equipment they are designed to last and it's only after about 20k or 30k those factory suspensions BARELY start getting broken in and softer

I should mention i drive it like a racecar as well, always WOT til i hit my speed and it gets there super quick. If i run to my hunting land through the country i can average 20+ mpg at 65 mph, the + would be if i didnt have to be passing people all the time lol. I'm totally impressed with my fuel economy!
