They are in their 70'ties now, so the lyrics at the start could also be about getting old and not having that many years back: "a while ago I heard the sound of children's laughter, now it's quite so I guess they left the park" (I was a mom, now the kids are grown up and left their home - it's empty here). "This wooden bench is getting harder by hour, the sun is going down, it's getting dark" (my body ages, it hurts and I don't have so many years ahead). "I realize I am cold, the rain begins to pour" (the best time of my life has passed). "As I watch the windows on the second floor.." (the old Polar recording studios in Sweden - on 2nd floor)... - from there, it's all about if the audience accepts their return... "Do you leave me standing in the hall? or let me enter?" (will you accept my new songs and let me into your grove?) "The apartment hasn't changed at all, I got to say I am glad" (I recognize the scene as I knew it, and it's a joy to be back)

I think your big sister is absolutely right. Superficially, the song is about a woman who wants to revive an old love. But basically it's about the question of whether we, the audience, welcome the reborn ABBA as they are now.

I know it said "tell him" early on but I, rightly or wrongly, feel this is about ABBA coming back after 39 years in a new shape and form and telling us they are re-loaded and given its 4 decades to have an open mind about their return. There is a video to this that shows them becoming ABBATARS and they are having a 4-year residency in a virtual show in their own Theatre being built right now in London. It Starts May 2022.

The apartment is the 'room' shared between Abba and their fans. They were frustrated, when they pulled the plug in the eighties, but they are grateful the apartment hasn't changed - the love between Abba and their fans hasn't changed the slightest. Actually the lyric is kind of hard too, as the opening lines actually refers to the fact, that they - and everybody else for that matter - is getting older and closer to death... That's why it's time to tell him. 'Him' being all of their fans. It's the last chance before it'll be too late.

@Michael Hansen - perfectly said and I agree 💯 with your take on the song being a message to us, the fans, to have an open mind and accept them as they (and we for that matter) are now, but, with the love from then. It’s such an amazing song and amazing message. I can’t wait to hear what other surprises they bring us with the album. Benny and Bjorn are very shrewd and know how to build anticipation, so, I have to believe that there is even better songs on the album and they are probably going to drop another single which will be a banger prior to the album release in order to build even more excitement. They truly are taking us all on an ABBA “Voyage” and I for one am loving the ride so far 😊

Agnetha is actually describing a visit to see Bjorn in his apartment that they shared for so many years together while they were married. She describes that encounter in the song: "As I watch the windows on the second floor The lights are on, it's time to go (ooh) It's time at last, to let him know... Will you leave me standing in the hall or let me enter? The apartment hasn't changed at all I've got to say, "I'm glad" Once these rooms were witness to our love My tantrums and increasing frustration." It is well-known from years of accumulated interviews and news spots about the challenges they had during their short marriage: "The band went their separate ways in 1982, with Agnetha admitting she found it hard being in the band after her break-up." "Agnetha fell in love with Bjorn at 19, after meeting him in a cafe. They were married in 1971 and Abba won Eurovision in 1974. She told the Standard she was emotionally ‘mangled’ by the split with Bjorn, who was the father of her two children. Within a week of their divorce, Bjorn had a new girlfriend and Agnetha had counselling. Abba’s hit The Winner Takes It All was written during this period and Agnetha said she found it hard to find the emotional strength to sing: “Tell me does she kiss/Like I used to kiss you?” Speaking about the song in 2013, Agnetha said: “Björn wrote it about us after the breakdown of our marriage. The fact he wrote it exactly when we divorced is touching really. “I didn’t mind. It was fantastic to do that song because I could put in such feeling. “I didn’t mind sharing it with the public. It didn’t feel wrong. There is so much in that song. It was a mixture of what I felt and what Björn felt but also what Benny and Frida went through.” -- Barney Davis at Evening Standard www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/why-did-abba-break-up-split-divorce-reunion-b953582.html Bjorn and Agnetha were often collaborators in his songwriting and he would often write songs with consideration of BOTH of their perspectives, not just his own, as some have mistakenly speculated.

Hey, , some more ABBA Trivia :) The lyrics of this song were written by Bjorn Ulvaeus, one of the ABBA B :) lyrically this song is kind of a sequel to the Song "the winner takes it all" from 1980. Bjorn was married to Agneta (one of the ABBA A :) and they got divorced in 1980 when "The winner takes it all" was released. Agneta is singing both songs. So obvious Bjorn wrote about them and let Agneta, his ex wife, then sing the songs about her/their situation and break up....Sounds crazy? it is, at least a little bit:) To fully unverstand the whole story, do a reaction video of "The winner takes it all" and focus on the lyrics as well,, then you will see what I mean :) And btw, I really like your reaction videos, you girls are funny :-)

Will they be accepted by their fans? Without criticizing you for not knowing, the answer is it doesn't matter if ABBA changes or not. Their fans love them. But the new releases reflect everything good In ABBA's sound from the 70s and early 80s. It's nice to hear that sound again, the production and arrangements. IMO most current pop music has become stale.l don't think it's evolved much over the last 20 years. Maybe a blast from the past. is exactly what's needed to move forward. Thanks for the reaction.

Try 'Eagle' and 'Girl With the Golden Hair.' They're both from their 70's stuff. You'll hear the similarities. I agree with one of the comments below, it sounds like an addendum to 'I Wonder (Departure).

DON'T LOCK ME DOWN????? Do they mean it this way. They are very bright people. Critic the elegant way.

You gals are fine-- redeemed if need be such ;-)... no one needs to attempt to shut you down. Keep doing your reactions and enjoying life to the fullest-- COVID be damned!!!!! Life is gaining a new sense of normalcy by how much they've communicated a little more in a positive direction on KZbin. Just remember, forget the naysayers-- your reactions are part of that positive energy, so keep it going!

Do more Bee Gees they were contemporaries of ABBA and i always wished they had collaborated on an album that would have been thrilling, also check out Leo Sayer "You make me feel like dancing" minor disco hit and "When i need you" "More than i can say" he also was a 70's staple so much good music from the 60's 70's 80's and 90's to discover

Great show.... you should do What's the name of the game by ABBA

You are very on point saying this song could also plea the fans to accept them back. We know Björn loved to put double meanings into his lyrics.

Don't expect a Video at all. First of all Aghnata is 71 years old, Bjorn is 76, Benny is 77 and Ann-Frid is 75. But I am amazed how much they sound the same. But at their ages they won't do a video in person but, it will still be possible to see their ABBAtars performing that song later in an official video as they are on stage and with live musicians.

There are already behind the scene videos of them in the studio looking like they are in their 70's. The screen doesn't explode. Can you imagine. 70 year olds singing, being filmed and the World does not end. Go figure.

@@donny1960 What is amazing though is that although they are over 70 years old they still sound so good. That is incredible. Would you believe that when I learned this song the first time, I cried of joy.

Rogue and Tiffany, This is a really good ABBA song, and I'm glad you reviewed Teddy Swims earlier. I really hope you get around to reacting to BAND MAID soon. This all female Japanese rock band really KICKS ASS! There are reactions from all over the world on KZbin about this group. My favorite songs are Domination-the official video, Freedom, which showcases the members individual talents, and Daydreaming, which show their softer side. I really hope you get around to reacting to their songs.

This song seems like its about her life and the new votage tour where its like holograms. Sadly they said this is the end.

Great video! The only strange thing was that you flushed/fast forwared at minute 5:51. For the rest, big compliments from the Netherlands!

I have a feeling that was only done for copyright reasons. Sometimes these videos need to be chopped a bit so that KZbin won't block them.
