We torture test the VERY FIRST MidNite Solar Rosie Inverter

As a testing and proving ground for MidNite Solar equipment we get everything first. We have been running successfully offgrid on the Rosie for several days now but today we put it to a very harsh test. Starting the large Ingersoll Rand air compressor is something every inverter we have tried has failed to do. Will the Rosie be up to the challenge?

Great video and test! The only way to know where the line is, is to go over it. It's great that it failed safely, came right back up ready to go without damage. I also see in one of your replies below that the LRA was 110 on the grid. Great info.

Yes and the Rosie was handicapped a lot in this test. Lots of battery cable length and the compressor is a long ways away on the AC side. One day we will get the system set up better and do more testing

Hi Ryan, a bit off topic, but in this video you have two XWpros & Midnite Schneider e-Panels running side by side in a Mater/Slave scenario. We would LOVE a video on how you hook this config up as its a big selling point over the Schneider MINI-PDP !!

Ya good question cuz I think it should have started that compressor. I'm betting there is something wrong with the compressor....I have a single XW I would have bet it alone would have started that compressor. I also have an old magnum I would have bet would come close to starting it....

The sound is the inductors in the inverter hammering. The good news is nothing blew up lol. Hopefully you got the upper hand on that power line and conduit. Watching you battle that rock and hoping it comes together soon for you

Having run XW's XW+'s and now XW PRO's I would say if your goal is used look for the Plus not the Pro, That said don't discount a stacked set of Rosies either they work very well

So far so good, We accidently fed her 74 volts dc on the battery yesterday, all she did was stop inverting

It looks like this thing tried til the death to start that compressor. It seems that some other inverters will shut down via software before they actually overload. Glad it restarted!

Yes, I am told by Midnite Engineering that was the intended response, It is never allowed to spike the AC voltage but it can brown out a few times over a few seconds. This of course is software and will be tinkered with based on feedback

I have XW it's 130 lbs.....6.8kw...so how the heck can the Rosie at 60lbs do 7kw as reliably as XW....I'm being serious because I'm seriously considering a Rosie for my van build. Like how does it do better and be so much smaller?

The old technology used a huge transformer internally, almost every manufacturer has moved to what is being called High Frequency but what that means in a nutshell is that instead of a single inverter and HUGE autotransformer they use a very small light weight transformer on the output of two inverter sections and reduce weight. The High Frequency uses a lot better switching electronics and switches at a much higher frequency allowing for more efficiency and high surge ratings.

question about the Rosie. Most of the High Frequency inverters I have looked at don't have a battery temperature sensor. Does the Rosie have one?

Yes the Rosie comes with a BTS and Remote battery voltage sense and a couple Aux outputs. As well as support for the WBjr and other stuff I am sure I am forgetting

I suspect the DC wiring plays more into it. We have a lot of cable between the XW and the actual battery unfortunately

Yes she does, I forget exactly where in the menus now but I think it is "Setup --> Inverter config --> AC input" if memory serves. I can try and do a quick video on this mode today so check back a little later

One 15k might be able to do it. It can do 125A for 100ms and 100A for 10s.

If the pair of XW's won't do out, there's almost no chance for the two sol-ark's. There is quite a bit of video proof on youtube that shows the XW is stronger than the sol-ark 12k's at starting.

@@niktak1114 Yes, on paper the Sol-Arks look great, and for most things, they are great, but the one thing they don’t do well is start large motors, even when the stats promise otherwise. Sol-ARKS are becoming famous for this one weakness. Too bad really, they were my first choice.

Agreed it is a bit bloated in terms of fuctions. But is a beast for me so far. Charging my tesla totally off grid from a single XW no problem over night at 15amps 220v
