If you are into like this kind of trips then i would suggest you to ..try Himalayan queen (same steam engine toy train) runs between kalka and shimla .. And another one is Darjeeling Himalayan railway ( its the highest working toy train in the world) Everyone should definitely try both of them...once in their lifetime

My grandmother grew up in Coonoor, near Ooty. The heritage railway that pulls you up to ooty was such a part of her life. During those days, Ooty was apparently a lot more colder and you used to find ice collected in the buckets etc..those happy days haha !😊 Also I see a little board saying Coimbatore junction is celebrating 150 years ! That’s 150 years of legacy in that part of Tamilnadu ! Also another fun fact is that the Indian broad gauge is bigger than the European standard gauge and can carry a lot more people. Sleeper class is not one below third class. It’s below three tier ac, which still sleeps 8, but is air conditioned. Above three tier ac is the two tier ac, which sleeps 6 per seat row. First class sleeps 4 per row and has its own doors for privacy. The Ooty steam train is actually an oil fired steam locomotive and not a coal powered one !

@@ThoseHappyDays If you plan to go to Shimla in Himachal Pradesh in North India then there is also a similar type of train that runs from Kalka to Shimla and that journey is also very picturesque though I have not taken this Ooty train so I can not compare, but that one is also really good and a bit cheap in terms of price then this one as well.

I’ve been to Shimla in northern India. The British governing body used to travel to Shimla to escape the hot Delhi heat. The treaty giving India independence was signed in Shimla. Shimla looks like an English town in many ways , it has a church with a spire and a town hall like many town halls in England! To get there I travelled on a similar narrow gauge railway through stunning scenery!

Such towns are also in Simla near Himalayas, it gets very cold around there, from what I have seen on KZbin. Ladakh is out of this world landscape, Kashmir, both very cold in winter, ice and snow, Ladakh at high altitude has less oxygen, need to read up and research before going there. I have not been to any of these places, just know from KZbin.

The train journey looked fun and Ooty looks my kind of place, cooler and chocolate - perfect. You still managed to get me on the edge of my seat. I love elephants but being sat in the middle of a herd like that is a bit scary. My vote is to take Pete and go the longer way round, see more places and meet more people. It's a journey not a race.

You two have got you heads screwed on the right way round. However I was surprised you didn’t carry a large bunch of Bananas 🍌 each to offer as a peace offering to any lone rogue elephant. Ensure you each take a large bunch of bananas 🍌 in Pete. Because an elephant who is unhappy or angry would just throw you and Pete or a vehicle like match sticks into the gutter or road . Be prepared.

When I read the title of this video, I was so happy that I wouldn’t have to worry myself sick about you two taking Pete up another mountain. So happy, in fact, that I made myself an extra special lunch, jammed my headphones on and settled in for the ride. I really liked Ooty ❤️ A wonderful respite from the intense heat, and the peace and quiet would suit my old soul. And the chocolate. Can’t forget the chocolate. And the elephants and monkeys. And the chocolate. And the steam train. And the chocolate. I absolutely refuse to debate the pros and cons of you taking the short cut to your next stop. I already know exactly what you’re gonna do. So I’ll see you up that mountain next week 🥴 Stay safe, please. As always, humbled by your generosity in taking us with you, and in awe of your filming/editing skills. And the chocolate. I might have already mentioned that 😋

Love you guys for the extreme positivity, taking pleasure in all the pluses and , totally ignoring India's negatives. I am from Coimbatore and lived/worked in Mysore for 3 years, did round trips over 100 times on that route. The route is so beautiful, jungle with frequent wild elephants crossing but 99% certain Pete WONT be able to climb the 10 -15 km stretch which is steeper than your previous. Best this to do- like you did before. Pay a mini truck to carry Pete from Sathyamangalam to Hasanur and ride all the way DOWN to Mysore which is a pleasant countryside.

I loved everything, the train journey, the monkeys, the chocolate, the kitchenware shop and Janine’s enthusiasm in there! 😆 The wild elephants and Safari trip with the extra laugh at Janine having showed Liam the video of the elephant charging a safari vehicle prior to going! 😆 I can’t wait for the each new video now having already filled the time between current video uploads by working my way through all of your early videos prior to when I found your channel almost a year ago now.

Great video, love your adventures on India. On your next part of the journey I would go round the long way although you say it would takes days, if you go in the mountains with Pete it would not be safe and if you break down it could also take days.

Great video! Please don’t take Pete over the mountain. Who knows what amazing things you’ll encounter taking the long way round. If Pete breaks down you could be having to back track and go the long way, anyway. Enjoying the adventure from my comfy spot in South Australia. ❤

Among other things Ooty is also famous for Eucalyptus trees/ oil and sandalwood. Not sure but you may find some Govt shop for authentic goods of both types. Eucalyptus oil is good to clear up nostrils in cold. It has strong but likable smell. Just FYI. As a child I had been there with my family and one place I remember very vividly is the lush green botanical garden. I have no idea about the current status of the same. About traveling in Auto: The concept is romantic/ heroic but not at all practical. (1) Autos are 3 wheeled meaning they inherently lack the sturdy balance of a car. Many auto accidents happen even in city roads while traveling through potholes. They topple. (2) They lack power. Which means less speed. Which means more time in travel than absolutely necessary. That is a personal choice, I agree but as you have experienced other means of travel - like train are quite enjoyable and efficient too. Also you will have limited time/ 6 month visa, I guess. More importantly it will keep breaking down if tested on long stretches and slopes. I am not sure but is this a brand new auto or repurchased a used one? I am sure a brand new will also break down but you have had more than your fair share of trouble with silencer, carburetor and all. (3) You folks were extremely lucky the other day when Janine jumped out of the auto and saved the auto and herself from falling in a ditch. I like you guys and so that day decided I am not subjecting myself to this scary movie because I can not see a repeat of that incidence. I just can't. (4) You have done a lot of adventure - typical foreigners can't watch someone driving on Indian city roads. You have driven an auto - for more distance than most auto drivers in India have driven in the same time period. 95% of Indians have never driven an auto and we make 20% of World population so you are among the very high percentile on that count. If I were you, I won't like to stretch my luck any further. In Vegas the odds are so definitely stacked against you that it is better to leave at any point and definitely better when you are beating the house/ game - just like you two are right now. I am sure most viewers are going to call me "spoil sport" or "kill joy" etc. I would rather like you two be safe and tell your stories to your grand kids some day. Please take it in the spirit it is written. Love.

Another great video.Amazing seeing the elephants. I'm a mum of a son about your age (who likes extreme sports) so if course I'm going to say go the long way around the mountain. But like my son I know you will go the hardest and most exciting way so take care.

Ahhh the trains, I love em.. we did the night steam train somewhere that I still can’t pronounce or spell, I just remember sleeping on the floor, window open and coming of with a black sooted face and white eye balls. But I loved it. The smiles of the children running along and throwing them pens and pencils and sweets…India is truly magical. I hope your going to Rajasthan, you’ll both have to dress up. Look forward to next week. Enjoy x

Wow! Another great, interesting and informative vlog! How long do you think you will stay to discover India? There are so many places that even if you stayed for a year, you would only skim the surface. I'm thoroughly enjoying your travels and I thought you were bonkers when you first went to India. But not anymore! The landscape, the animals, the food but most importantly the welcome and help you've received from everyday, local people. Amazing! Keep enjoying your travels and keep safe! 🇬🇧🇮🇳

Oh Caru yes, India is so vast. According to Liam and Janine's visas I think they can be in India for 6 months. Yes absolutely India is so vast and it is impossible to explore it all even in a whole year!!!!! I did 3 years of solo travel vlogging in India in Kerala,Tamil Nadu, Karnatica,Goa, Rishikesh and the Himalayas. I took 40 hour train journeys up and down country and I still haven't seen even a quarter of the country!!!!! Namaste kas 🇮🇳🇬🇧

Hi, just watched some of your videos. Very nice and interesting. Presentation and video editing are top-class. In this video you showed your safari in Mudumalai tiger reserve and encounter of wild elephants and yesterday a short documentary on Mudumalai Elephants, their caretakers(Mahouts) has won an Oscar. What a Co-incidence.
