So I'm pretty sure the scarecrow thing is a bit of a 'game of telephone' deal, I think the actual idea is that you, personally, go out into the field with a hat & your work clothes, and you kill any crow you see with your gun for like, a week. Then, you take those clothes and hat and use them to make something that looks similar to you, and the crows know to stay away because they're community-animals.
