They do the Black Barrel at 50% and cask strength, and I think the 50% is the best of the three options. If you want to experiment with other whiskeys from the Midleton distillery, try the powers Gold Label. Regular Jameson is about 70% grain and 30% pot still, while the Gold Label is about 70% pot still and 30% grain!

There are many Jameson labels we never see here in the U.S., you have to get them from overseas. The Single Pot Still is one of them. There are a couple that pop up here, such as the Stout finished Caskmates (that along with the IPA you tasted is reportedly discontinued), Black Barrel Proof (50% ABV), The Whiskey Maker's Series of The Blender's Dog, The Cooper's Croze, and The Distiiller's Safe, some that are available in Travel Retail such as Triple Triple, a cask strength version of the 18yo 'Bow Street Edition', a 21yo, a 22yo, Jameson Remastered which is a 15yo SPS, and Jameson Remixed Caribbean Beats, finished in Rum Casks. Several more I could mention. 26 different bottles in my collection. For other distilleries/brands, try Powers, Redbreast, Spot Whiskies and Method & Madness, all Midleton, Bushmills, Teeling, Clonakilty, West Cork, Writer's Tears, Egan's, Dingle, Dunville's. There are probably 120 or so Irish Whiskies generally available across the U.S., but hundreds more available in Ireland.

I make a Jameson cocktail called Irish Lemonade. Great for summer. 2 oz Jameson, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 6 oz lemonade, 3 oz club soda (recipe calls for lemon club soda but I use regular), garnish with mint leaves (recipe also mentions pineapple or rosemary leaves but I like mint best) Combine whiskey, simple syrup lemonade, and ice in a cocktail shaker, then shake for a couple seconds. Pour over ice then top with club soda. Use a tall glass like a highball.

Jamison is a distillery in the same manner as many bourbon brands were purchased and placed under an umbrella name. Middleton is a large distillery. It makes several brands. Worth looking into the history of Irish Whisky. If I remember correctly, single pot still means a blend of malted and unmalted barely (legally some minimum of malted) made in one pot still from one distillery.
@GOTAisMe2 ай бұрын
Yes. It's like Jim Beam. Bookers, Knob Creek, Old Grandad etc... aren't sourced just because the name on the bottle isn't Jim Beam. Jameson is the largest brand of Midleton. It's not coming from different places that Midleton doesn't own. They have full control over the whole process unlike a brand that sources.

I've come to love Irish whiskey over the years, moreso than Kentucky bourbon vs Tennessee whiskey. I find it to be so much more smooth and easy on the pallet. I visited Ireland in June and had the pleasure of touring the Jameson Distillery, among 2 other Irish whisky tours. It was great! Most of the Orange, IPA, Cold, etc. are only popular here in the US. They really only drink standard Jameson in Ireland. My overall favorite Irish whiskey is the Spot brand, specifically Yellow Spot. I don't know if you've reviewed the Spots (Green, Yellow, Blue, Red and Gold) but I'd love to see that! (the Gold 13 is a limited release, which I had the luck of getting while visiting - my 2nd favorite). Love the channel, gentlemen!

Jameson used to be my favorite drink. I drank it for years, then someone bought me the black, and I decided to try some bourbons because I liked it. I haven’t bought Jameson now in like 5 years because I’m loving bourbon. It’s a good place to get into whiskey, but bourbon just offers so much more. But…. Since your asking, you should do a Bushmill’s distillery review. Their 10 year is the best Irish I’ve ever had. And their Red(bourbon barrel finished) is inincredible. They have a rum cask finished that also really good.
