At my HS you had drivers training at 15 during the summer. It was 3 months long... 3 days a week. You had in class instruction, you had a parking lot area where you did training, and then you had road training. Then in winter you had a week training class where you drove in the snow. Then you had to take the written test. Then you had to take a road test to get your permit. And after that you could get your license. (at 16) I however because my birthday was in Nov, I turned 16 way before my friends. I had to drive with my parents for a year before they would let me get my DL.

This can't be the way you get your license. Where I live we have 7 days of lectures then test, two days of first aid lectures then test and 35 days of driving with an instructor, and after all that you can take the driving test. And also our cars are with manual transmission. After passing the driving test you wait for your licence 15 days, and after all of that you can drive legally but you need to have a sign that you are beginner for 2 years.

Driver's Ed was part of high school but Driver's Training (behind the wheel) cost $$. I didn't get my license until I was 27, no car so I figured I didn't need it.

my drivers test was pretty easy imo 1. back out of a parking space. 2. come to several complete stops 3. turn onto a busy road 4. change into the turn lane to turn onto a not so busy road 5. turn into a nearby neighborhood. 6. perform a quick stop by getting the car to 20mph and stoping when instructor tells you 7. cul de sac turn around 8. back up in a completely straight line 9. go back to the not so busy road and drive to the near by parking lot 10. perform a 3 point turn 11. park properly 12. answer questions about parking on a hill automatic fail if the straight line in reverse goes half into other lane of road always use turn signals when backing out of/pulling into places stop behind the line of a stop sign and pull forward, a double stop total run time ~20mins

I remember when I drove with my instructor, he had me serpentine between cones forward and backwards like they did to learn maneuverability. It helped but I still failed the driving portion the first time 😂

Kaitlin Carrillo I don’t know where you’re located, but I got my license in Texas, and it was stupid easy. They went out to my car first and checked all the lights and horn to make sure they work before starting. They then took me out to their parallel parking spot and I did terribly but didn’t hit anything so instead of having me correct it the dude was just like you’re good keep going. Then took a short drive around the neighborhood basically and came right back. Start to finish the whole thing was like 5 minutes. Just make sure that at the start you check your mirrors and see buckled in, you fully stop and check and double check at stop signs, and don’t hit anything lol. If you gotta take your time they’ll prefer that over hitting a cone or something

i don't know the education system in most american high schools, but the one i went to didn't have "drivers ed"...even out of school, i never learned how to drive, i'm still terrified of driving because what if i collide into a street light or into another driver's car. i will eventually learn but it'll take time to build up my confidence.

in Germany getting your drivers license is quite the process. You have to go to a special school and pay around 1300-2000€ in order to get it. 😂

our drivers ed was so easy. it was 30 hrs of class work (rules test) for 3 weeks then we do 6 hours of driving in the country then highway. then you get your license

In my country there's no High School Driver's ed. You buy a road signs and driving laws book from a store and you study it on your own. Then you're examined by a government employee and if you pass you get to have a learner's licence. Then you start driving around with a teacher you hired and drive another government employee around and if you pass you get you licence. Woohoo.

It wasn't that crazy to weave backwards through the cones. My driving instructor had me do that. It was only for practice though and I can't be sure how close they put the cones just to mess them.

Yeah the majority of people here in the US drive automatic transmission cars. A lot of people who drive manuals refer to manual cars as "anti-theft" because a lot of people don't know how to drive them. I know the basics of how to drive a manual transmission car, but I just don't have one to practice with. My dad is a car mechanic and sometimes when he gets a manual-trans car to fix, he has me drive it. I've found that once I get the car to start moving, it is quite easy to drive a manual car.

I actually think it's illegal to take drivers ed with an automatic car here? I got my drivers license last year and I don't know how I managed that because I literally can't figure out driving a manual car, well not until recently. My brother gave me his old car because he bought a new one (it's an automatic one). So now I'm slowly learning to drive a manual one. I do drive in my parents automatic sometimes so at least I know how to drive I just have a hard time doing it with a manual car.So I see why people can have a hard time driving manuals because there's so many things to remember. But can I ask why your dad asks you to drive the cars and not himself? 😊
