The diy route isn’t THAT much cheaper but: 1. You still save money 2. You surprisingly (yet also not so surprisingly) get a better quality costume 3. You can make it however you want! 4. You can reuse things to make the costume and to wear when you’re done with the costume 5. It’s just fun to create things! 🖤✨🖤✨🖤✨🖤✨🖤

I think the DIY is still worth it even tho the price may not seem that different compared to the store bought. You have to take into account that the store bought ones are totally NOT worth the price. The quality is subpar and most don’t even look that convincing and can be super uncomfortable. Whereas homemade costumes are often better bc they are made using real materials like denim and leather instead of plastic and polyester and the outcome looks better quality and is as comfortable to wear as just regular clothing

Just a tip for anyone who is going to make the jesse costume at home: i would recommend using red yarn instead of red ribbon for the swirls, its much more flexible and will have cleaner lines on the loop since you can bend it into a circle without having to crease the edges!

Pro Tip: instead of glueing, sew the decorations onto the "real" clothing items with a few stitches. It will only have to last for a night or two and that way, you can just wear the clothes regularly :) I've always just used my own clothes and added a few fun bits like this for 15 years of around 3-5 carnival costumes per year :D PS: Novelty aprons make great costumes and are fun to keep/gift afterwards :)
@tonnykwint5 жыл бұрын
first rule of working with fabric: if you can sew it, sew it!! it makes me cringe every time I see molten plastic irreversibly ruin these pieces. like you said then you can reuse or repurpose these items, or even return them to the thrift shop so someone else can enjoy it...
@masha73775 жыл бұрын
@@tonnykwint I think it's not to intimidate those who don't regularly sew. The girls often sew but costumes are something where many people DIY who don't do this often. Personally, I find adding a few stitches easier than handling fabric glue, but I get that it can be intimidating (like powertools to me!) 😉
@brandilyon5 жыл бұрын
I saw your comment and then came back to respond after watching them hot glue that name tag on. it’s just as easy to hot glue a safety pin on and it was kind of disappointing that they won’t be able to use it again
@daneekaplan42845 жыл бұрын
@@masha7377 But the point is that a simple stitching like a running stitch or replacing a button is something ANYONE can do and frankly should learn to do. We aren't talking a sewing machine. We are talking simple hand stitching. There are enough tutorials online or ask around, someone knows how to do it and can help them get started. It is easier to attach a ribbon with a simple running stitch than it Is to use hot glue which is messy and very hot. If you mess up with a needle and thread, you just need to clip the stitch- if you mess up with hot glue, you re screwed because the glue will not come out. The get the power tool analogy for a hot glue gun or a sewing machine but not for a simple hand stitching.
@masha73775 жыл бұрын
@@daneekaplan4284 I mean, if you're comfortable with needle and thread, it's VERY easy to replace the glueing with stitching. With my comment, I meant to do just what you're hinting at: encouraging people to ditch the glue and pick the needle. No need to be all testy. 😊

I’m just wearing some of my normal clothes, but I thrifted a witch hat $5 (1/2 price of new and adding $1 flowers), I bought $10 of material for a cape and another $3 for the clasp, about $10 for clay and paint to make a wand, and $10 for a trademark scarf from Walmart. So grand total will be about $30 give or take if I add anything else. Not bad for a HP themed costume imo! Considering the student ones cost around $39 just for a decent robe, and I didn’t want to be a student really cause I’m 27 lol! I like to think I’m like the cool art teacher of Hogwarts lol!
