For the next mystery, you all need some John Dickson Carr (the name of one of the characters in the Decagon House Murders), the master of fair mysteries. The Hollow Man (or The Three Coffins) it is a must. Will be a very entertaining watch.

I never once thought about the idea that someone would actually get into the trouble of going back and forth from the island to the mainland. But I suspected Van, since he was the one who was actually capable of bringing kerosene cans, poisons, etc to the island (but he was sick, so that caught me off guard), and I also suspected that Chiori has a boyfriend. Never connected the two though. I manage to solve the murder of Nakamura Seiji, his wife, etc. I remember thinking, if I assume that the gardener's dead, murdered, then that means that Seiji's death was the only death that could be caused by suicide. "And Then There Were None" gave me this idea. One more thing: Ellery is annoying OMG. Had I not listened to his theories I probably would've solve this book. I love that you're branching out, solving other murder mystery stories from other authors. But, if you ever consider solving another Agatha Christie's book again, I suggest "Five Little Pigs", this is the most solvable Agatha Christie murder, everything you need to know is said, you just need to piece it together. The Labyrinth House Murder is releasing this October, please make a video solving it with your brother again.

The author gived us a huge hint with the name of the killer. SPOILER: Morisu + Van = Van Morisu = Van Morrison
@DeadDetectiveSocietyАй бұрын
@@Mondo_panico Um... I don't know who Van Morrison is. Can you explain? :)
@Mondo_panicoАй бұрын
@@DeadDetectiveSociety yes, of course. Van Morrison is a well known Irish singer from the 70/80s, if you don’t know who he is try to google “moondance”. In my opinion the author choose the name Morisu for the true identity of the killer just because sound similar to Morrison, so that we can make a subliminal connection between the two names, Van and Morisu (try to repeat them fast).
@DeadDetectiveSocietyАй бұрын
@@Mondo_panico Oohh! Thank you for explaining it. I thought the author was trying to do something like, "among the students who have nicknames based off of famous mystery writers, there's one that is named after a singer instead of a mystery writer".

The third book in Ayasuji's Bizzare House Murders (The Labyrinth House Murders) is being published on October 10th! Nakamura Seji has built many houses, so each entry in the series deal with a different house. You guys already read the second book, Mill House Murders, and frankly I think they get better and better. Translations take a while but Pushkin Press is doing great work. EDIT: For recommendation, Ayasuji's friend, Soji Shimada wrote his own mystery series. Shimada also wrote the forward to Decagon House, introducing the concept of Honkaku mysteries. Ayasuji named his detective in the books after Soji. The detectives name: Kyoshi Shimada is a mix between a main character in Shimada's books (Kyoshi) and Shimada's own name. Of his works, only two have been translated. The Tokyo Zodiac Murders is the first one (and I think the best). It was written to be solved by the reader, and all the clues are there. I think The Tokyo Zodiac Murders has the most clever solution to any mystery book I have ever read, and I can confirm it is possible to figure out, the author even tells you when all the clues have been given to you. So please, reading The Tokyo Zodiac Murders. I am sure you both will have a lot of fun. In fact, it is written like two amateur detectives trying to solve a case that has stumped everyone for decades. So it fits the video style you guys have.

Ellery is Ellery Queen, a detective from novels set in the 40s after World War II. It was turned into a TV series in the mid 70's. Emma, you and your bro, Ben put so much effort into these videos. Well done 👏

13:40, Ooh, I would LOVE this house. 7 full sized-rooms and a giant main hall that could serve as both living room and dining room? The one bathroom is a total chop, however. I would need three levels to this house, with the second floor just being ENTIRELY bathrooms that connect to their respective rooms on the ground floor, and the basement floor being all kinds of activities, like a theater, a sauna, a gym, a pool, a bowling alley. Ooh, it would be so fun.

I think the translation kinda lessen the twist in the book. Morisu, is not a common japanese name, so when people read the book and see Mo-ri-su in japanese characters, they would assume that is his nickname because Maurice LeBlanc is very popular in japan from his Lupin novels. So there was never a though that we never got his nickname making Maurice =/= Van, when actually mo-ri-su really meant Morisu . In English however, we see that it's already spelled Morisu, which make us think of that as his real name right away and left wondering what's his nickname. I think the translator should've spelled his name in english, Maurice from the beginning, and probably add a sentence explaining to the police at the end, "it actually Morisu"
