Id love to know what your drinking while your doing your tasting. Love the content, keep up the great work!

We used to do it that way, and still do during the head-to-heads, but our channel is predicated on erasing bias and preconceived notions about what's in the glass. We'd love for people to hear why we do or don't like a pour, and then find out what it is along with us. Cheers and thanks for watching!

You two are my kind of reviewers. Honest and looking for a good bourbon at a reasonable price. It makes me question other reviewers who rave about allocated bottles and recant "historical" distillery narratives.....and don't do blinds. Y'all are doing a service for us average folks.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
Thanks DBT! The way we figure it, reviews are awesome but a blind reaction from two regular people’s palates can speak volumes. We appreciate you watching!

Wow! I thought you were going to say Augusta Bourbon. I've always heard great things about Old Carter, but never had it

I got an Old Carter batch LA-2 yesterday. It is the BEST bottle i bought this year. Cost $185 and I’m not mad about it

That's awesome! We have no doubt that they turn out some amazing barrels and batches. We wish we had the opportunity to try more. Cheers!

I saw an Old Carter Bourbon at Liquor Barn in Bowling Green Ky a couple of weeks ago. $229, glad I passed.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
It's such a steep price tag that it's hard to say buy without trying it first. Cheers and thanks for watching James!

I have a friend who has shelves of Old Carter. But every time I go over there and taste I leave thinking there’s no way I’d spend that much money on that stuff. It’s good but he definitely has a lot of cash sunk into those bottles.

Glad to know we're not the only ones that weren't blown away. You hear so much universal praise that to have an "it's good but not great" opinion seems crazy.

Honestly, I wish the drinking public would make these types of bottles a hard pass and force the industry to really up their game if they plan on attaching that kind of price to a bottle. So so many $200 bourbons and rye's are just all marketing B.S.

I never pulled the trigger on one of their bottles and don’t know if I will cheers

Interesting, i tried a sample of OC10 last week & it tasted like hot oaky cologne

This one didn't come across hot at all to us, but oaky cologne is a great descriptor!

And that' why blinds are so helpful. A lukewarm reception becomes a hard pass for $200. 😂

When Knob Creek 12 is $65, A sourced bottle for $200 is a hard pass.

I don't understand how the price is worked out on a product. It seems to me if you put enough marketing crap it justifies the price
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
It's a valid question. Mark and Sherry put a lot of work into blending by all accounts, and they are dealing with sourced whiskey which increases price as well (in a market with ever-increasing prices). That said, some of the price is no doubt marketing positioning too.

No bourbon to me is worth $200. I can get quite a few great bottles together for that kind of money.
@gregs73752 жыл бұрын
OC is mum on intel but fairly certain it’s double barreled making it a finished product. Age of the blends range about 8 yrs and they’ve got a characteristic funkiness to them. Over the years I feel their stock is drying up and they’ve moved to younger whiskeys in their blends. I’m not as impressed as I once was. It’s a shame quality is falling but prices are rising in today’s market.

Spent 130 on a Calumet 15 year, the most I've ever spent and wish I hadn't. 105 proof but burns every step of the way. Other than that it's just an OK bourbon.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
Great comment, Stan. Calumet 15 was widely regarded as a bourbon of the year contender last year and that just goes to show that not everything is for everyone. Especially as prices creep higher it's really difficult to say to buy something that expensive without trying it first.

Most I have ever paid for a bottle was Old Carter Am Whiskey batch four for $200. Needless to say after drinking it I was underwhelmed for the cost. I had to evaluate and have lowered the max I am willing to pay for a bottle. Cheers, really enjoy the channel
@chrisdunning54812 жыл бұрын
Another great video. You two are so enjoyable to watch. I do especially like the bloopers. My wife who does not drink even enjoys them. I have one Old Carter I paid $200 for and it is okay. As in just okay. I have better bottles for half that price.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words Chris and glad to hear we're not the only ones that haven't been blown away by OC. You hear so much universal praise that it's like being on an island when you say that it's good but not great. Cheers!

When the whisky bubble/frenzy bursts, $200 bottles that don't measure up are going to have a really hard time.
@yourdrinkingbuddy2 жыл бұрын
These cost $200 before there even was a bubble. I have tried two of them. They both blew my mind and both were blind. If I saw one, I would buy it so fast I might break my wallet.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
It feels like Old Carter and Four Gate are kind of in the same boat. Selling expensive sourced whiskey that’s blended to perfection, with quality levels varying from very good to absolutely amazing. As always, personal preferences will always come into play at some point, and those preferences get a lot more critical when $200 is on the line. We don’t get Old Carter in TN but hope we get to try one that blows us away one day.
@red5standingby4192 жыл бұрын
Having bought a bottle of Four Gate Kelvin Collab 4 (Batch 19) I can def say that as good of a whiskey as it is its not worth $200 and probably won't be buying any more releases. Just based on that alone I'd probably never buy an Old Carter either knowing that it probably would be a great pour but not worth $200. Also, not to be that guy, money is not the issue for me, they're just objectively not worth $200 a bottle. I also do not participate in secondary, again not because of money but because I know none of the whiskies you can buy at secondary prices are worth what's being charged.
@lilannalucey2 жыл бұрын
Yikes. I've never had Old Carter, and I'd only consider dropping $200 on a bottle if it was especially meaningful to me or got consistent beyond-rave reviews, so I think this is a brand I'm going to avoid should I ever see one in the wild.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
As highly praised as some of their bottles are we’re sure they’ve got some incredible releases. This just wasn’t one for us unfortunately.
@LP23D62 жыл бұрын
Well done. I have 100 bottles on my shelf that would be better. Wouldn't mind having a bottle to collect though.
@LeatherDaddy972 жыл бұрын
Ive had one of the bourbon and one of the american. The american was awesome, probably a $100 bottle. The bourbon i wasnt as impressed by. Either way im not dropping 200 on em. Good whiskey though

$200 hefty price tag for not a lot of value… hard pass… Keep it Smiling
@jeffreyjennings16402 жыл бұрын
Then why take a sip? Because it's in the glass! I'm out at the $200 price tag. I'm not buying something at that price unless I can try it first.
@stuffandwhiskey2 жыл бұрын
We're close to the same place in that we have to try it first or we have to have a VERY good idea of what we're getting in the bottle for that price.
@miked82362 жыл бұрын
Whats to say that already hasn't been said. Hard pass at that price. I don't even think I've seen one in the wild, let alone had a chance to buy one. There are just too many good 5-10 year old products on the shelf for 25% of that price. I have an 18 year Scotch on my shelf that I paid $80 for......but to each their own and if money is no object taters gon tater.........
