We LOVE Croatian Food so we thought we'd try all the Croatian Snacks and Drinks we could find at the stores in Croatia. We basically travel for food and trying all the local snacks is so much fun! There are always new and weird chip flavours and interesting sweets and drinks.

@@PureDetour My suggestion is that you go to Osijek a d make it your hub. Then from there visit the region Baranja, there are a couple of great places to eat and to look at. There you should try a lot of fresh water fish dishes. The one that is the most spicy is fish paprikaš (paprikasch), but you have to tell them you how spicy you want it 😀. In Osijek you should try Čobanac (Chobanac), same as before you choose how spicy you want it, you also could visit Ilok, there is one of the best wineries in the region, and again great fresh fish dishes, there you will not find spicy food.

Just for the record, Smoki is produced in Serbia (factory Stark), and Chio is not originally Croatian. Bajadera is the best thing about choco sweets you can find here, Griotte too as somebody has already mentioned, Pipi is a legendary drink which you would most likely drink served with ice at the beach on 40 C at the beach (but it's so good that we drink it all year long). You should have tried Bronhi which is a menthol caramel and it's something we all were raised on. 505 s crtom (it's not scrotum :)))))))) means "505 with the line" reffering to the line in the middle of the candy. It has no meaning whatsoever and true, all the grandmas have 505 in a little glass box and they make you take your candy when you're small and come for a visit :)))
@PureDetour
@PureDetour Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! Yes, I can see pipi being good on ice at the beach. And I knew that the 505 had to be grandmother candy, you can tell by the taste 😂

It has to be cold, warm is disgusting. But I noticed that Americans are not fans of herbal stuff in general. They always comment that it taste like toothpaste, I guess because it's only herbal product in USA 🤣
@kamikazitsunami
@kamikazitsunami Жыл бұрын
Trader Joe's in the US just came out with some of those peanut butter Cheeto type puffs and they're a big hit with kids. Banana flavored candies have a tendency to taste like chemicals because it's hard to get that natural banana flavor into something shelf stable like a candy. One of my worst snacking experiences was when I was in Morocco and I bought a bag of roasted chicken potato chips. It tasted like putrid chicken flavoring on stale chips that were cooked in rancid oil. That was one of those situations where I couldn't swallow. I like trying new things but I won't waste calories swallowing something that doesn't taste good to me. I love mushrooms and I was so excited to try a truffle but the couple of truffle items that I have had made me feel sick and now even looking at something that has truffles in it, I won't even try it now. That's put into the bell pepper category, yuck.
@PureDetour
@PureDetour Жыл бұрын
I can see how people might like those peanut puffs and I agree with you about banana flavour, it always tastes weird, doesn't it? If you like mushrooms, I'm surprised that you're not liking truffles. Have you tried something like a pasta with fresh shaved truffles on it? It's worlds apart from some of the truffle flavoured oils and cheaper products. And we had the roasted chicken flavour chips in Morocco too! Not our fave definitely!
