Great video as usual Kara and Nate! Just a small feedback - the clickbait was really annoying and disappointing and it made me feel tricked. 7:30 The reason why snow is white is because it scatters all visible wavelengths of light. You could take out all the air and it would still be white. Snow does have a lot of air in it though because it's not very dense. Glacier ice on the other hand is blue because it's been compressed down by pressure to form a different kind of a crystal structure and also because there's less air bubbles. Technically ice actually has more oxygen because water is formed from two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, and an oxygen atom is 16 times heavier than an hydrogen atom. The oxygen content of air ice only 21% in volume and air is only around 1/1000th of the density of water.
@bobjohnson17106 жыл бұрын
That may explain why ice floats on water, but it doesn't explain why snow is white, nor why the ice in a glacier can sometimes be blue.
