Sri Lankan here, gonna try to provide some hints/some stuff I noticed :D 15:00 Justin nailed it! Knowing at least what the script looks like is your best bet. If I had to describe the Sinhala script, it's very round and curly. It's a bit similar to the Kannada or Telugu scripts in India, though relatively more "closed" and swirly if that makes sense? For reference, the sussy amogus letter comes from the Sinhala script Also, that style of gate at the beginning is fairly common for houses in the more suburban areas. Not to mention the wall with the decorative "punkalasa" (pot of plenty) motif The Thai script meanwhile is much more vertical and straight looking, and the letters tend to end in circles 15:05 In the middle, the logos of an S with a bunch of dots are the old Sri Lanka Telecom logo (pre-2020) 15:30 Tuktuks on the left side of the road are a nice clue. It's not the only country with tuktuks obviously, but it's something to consider ig

if you wanna be really meta, the sri lanka car is distinguishable by its distinct red blur. when he pans down around 14:58 you can see the white car with red blur, which is unique to SL. but if you cant pan you wont always see it.

Fun fact about that Lahti round in Finland: the building you can see with the banners is a really recognisable building in Finland! It hosts some of the biggest anime conventions in Finland twice a year, alongside a bunch of other events. It's named after the most famous Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius. ​@@heykak when the majority of people, roads and thus street view images are near major population centers, picking the largest city gets you pretty close to the suburban and rural areas it's likely around. Trying to pick out if it's north or south of a particular city is much harder than picking out the largest city in a given region it is probably somewhat close to given the distribution of roads.

If I see a farm in buttfuck, Alabama I'm probably picking somewhere in the Midwest or maybe a little more east of that depending on flora and try to find a state identifier. Even if I narrow it down to Alabama I'm probably putting the pin down somewhere near a large city just because thats where more roads are and there will be farms somewhat close to the city in most directions.
