I think restaurant wear is the best choice , the one thing people will remember about this Airbnb is we stayed at the “crazy lamp lady’s” place, it’s supposed to be a representation of you and that’s exactly what you need to make it , what ever you love! I think that’s what is so cool about you decorating it and doing the work it’s been fun watching and your a breath of fresh air to watch! And funny! 😂

Before my husband past we bought a fixer upper, shortly after we moved in he had a stroke so wasn’t able to do the work, so I started doing it myself I removed a built in devider cabinet to open up the kitchen and a few other minor things before I had to concentrate on taking care of him I’m 76 now and still doing things as I can I already learned enough electrical to change out all the electric outlets and switches, I also replaced the light in my laundry room, patio and front porch I am in the middle of sanding my bathroom to paint it and replace the floor tiles I’m also going to replace the outdoor carpet on my porch. Not hire someone but do it myself So I appreciate the work you are doing bravo 💜

That thin foam under the outlet cover is insulation to block drafts. It's a good idea to use them under switch and outlet covers that are on walls that have the outside on the other side... vs interior walls, especially. But best to use under all covers.

It really helps your mind, your sense of balance or grounding to be doing something different with your brain and your time. It is affirming and satisfying. I for one am proud of you, and enjoy seeing you doing something other than plodding through Goodwill. That is not to say you shouldn’t do it, but this is kinda like a vacation for your spirit for now.❤️

You are such an inspiration to the rest of your followers and we thank you. There is nothing wrong with what you are going through and how you are feeling right now. You are an extremely successful person who has a rich personal life. You do you! It has worked for you up until now. While your life is out there for us to see, your life is yours. I am old, so my life experience has taught me a lot. Just know, you are on the right track and you have a beautiful family, from your parents, to your children and Andrew. Anyone who does any kind of home improvements needs to remember that they had a FIRST project and I would be willing to bet that they didn’t stay as cool and easygoing and have the attitude of figuring it out as they went. You are having fun with it and that is amazing. That is how it should be. You told us all that this was the “something different “ you were needing. Enjoy your journey . And to everyone watching, just be happy for her and enjoy watching her get to the “end goal “ , no matter how she does it. Go Jocelyn Go !!😃

@I am a 56 now and have been doing home improvements for over 30 years now and I’m not bragging but just want you to understand how far I’ve come. I can pretty much do anything cosmetic and some minor construction and electrical work . I just finished a 1 year long whole house interior renovation of our “rest of our lives home” new flooring , trim , molding, all new light fixtures, and of course painting and wallpapering. I even built our farm style dining table. I don’t do plumbing other than changing fixtures. But….. my first makeover was HORRIBLE!!! I did not have KZbin University to help me back then😂🤣 I wallpapered my bedroom by following the instructions on the slip of paper that came in the wallpaper roll. 😂I had to go to the hardware store 3 times to get the “”tools” for the job. It literally took me all day to do one wall, and I was only doing bottom half of wall. The wallpaper paste smelled so bad I slept in the liv room. Next morning I walked into bedroom and it was all falling off and was now stuck to my carpet🤣😂fast forward 1 week. I had a half wall of paper on one wall that due to frustration I had STAPLED to the wall no carpet because it was ruined and I tore it out. So my slightly out of date but nice bedroom now looked kind of like a prison cell a stunk like a glue factory. 🤣😂You are miles ahead of where I started and I can’t wait to see what all you do. You definitely have more patience and a better attitude than I did too. 😁 use KZbin and not staples and you will be fine😂🤣

I stayed at an Airbnb in Lewisville, Idaho. It was so well stocked we felt like we were home. Variety of mixing and serving bowls, small appliances, cups, mugs, pots, pans. Everyone's favorite thing was the coffee, tea, hot cocoa station. Big variety of flavors. Sweeteners, syrups, spiced apple cider, etc. She even had the disposable cups for hot drinks. One of the bottom drawers had fun play dishes for the kids to get into. The only thing it needed was a child proof lock on the cupboard under the sink. We improvised with a pony tail holder. Love the couch color! Excited to follow this new adventure!

I think your idea of a navy blue on the bottom of the table is great and a match very well with everything even the other rooms. You’re doing a great job on the table and the more you do the better you’ll get and the easier it’ll be and then you can step back and look at what you’ve done and feel all your pride for your accomplishment.❤

I was a single mum many years ago. I took on many DIY projects and I learned as I went. I didn’t have the internet back then so I learned by trial and error. I would ask my Dad or the guy at the local DIY shop (and once my neighbour 😂) The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction after successfully completing something was a great feeling. Now 30 years later and I’m giving advice to my children now they are doing their houses up ! You do you Jocelyn. The new paint color is so good - and I 100% support switching out the outlet covers. Small things make a big difference! Will your electrician actually switch out the outlets themselves to white so they match the covers? Also - I love that you are just diving in and learning as you go! Many people would be paralyzed by fear. It shows your ambition, strength and excitement. I know it’s frustrating that everyone is barking advice at you…try to let it roll off your back, and maybe take away a few morsels from the seasoned reno pros…they just want to see you succeed!

Trained for Type A and proud of it. 😂😂😂 love your restaurant ware choice. Great idea, comfortable for guests. Harvey Houses (stopovers with restaurants and rooms for passengers) along the RRs were started late 1800s. Probably had restaurant ware. I always want to do things myself also. Its such fun and you learn so much! Bought my current house about 12 years ago, closest friend couldn't believe I was buying it because it was in such bad shape and I was already seeing what it was going to look like. To this day she still can't believe I could see it and she can't believe I did it myself! It's a mess now because it's full of things to sell but hopefully I will outlive the mess. Have learned to do most things the way I want to, not the way others think they should be done. We are created uniquely so creativity is for fun! I'n having fun with you! And laughing!!

I completely agree with you regarding soft goods and unknown cleanliness. I’m a nurse of 34 years and couldn’t imagine offering a sofa, pillows or linens to a guest in my rental that was thrifted. There’s bedbugs, fungi, mites, sweat, blood and other bodily fluids to consider when running a rental or in your own home. Think! At least at a hotel you would expect a clean bathroom and bed with cleanly laundered sheets and towels. This should apply to an Airbnb.

I’ve done AirBnB, the main thing is the cleaning time or cost. Best if you require several night’s stay or do it by the week. I’m sure you will figure it out. Just a couple of comments other than the outlet insulation, which someone already wrote about, is it’s best to wash the walls before painting. You will get a better finish and adhesion to the previous coats, if the walls are clean. To hang your heavy mirror where there isn’t a stud, you can use anchor plugs. Just fyi. Glad you are having fun and getting a change of pace!

I grew up two miles from the Buffalo China factory. It was started by John Larkin in the early 1900s to make premiums for his soap company. Two guys bought the bankrupt factory which had hundreds of thousands of pieces of restaurant ware. They had huge sales - 10-25 cents for each piece. I bought a lot - never used paper plates again. I’ve had zero breakage in 10-15 years. Good idea to go with restaurant ware!

I am extremely excited for you and your new adventure. I have stayed at many rentals / airbnbs in TN while vacationing. Love them. Please also stipulate no smoking inside, and as an owner of a service dog, I paid the $100 nonrefundable fee for my fur baby. I always enjoy traveling and having the feel of home away from home - not a hotel.

With the table I would pick a bright colour in the mat. Go with your heart ❤️

100% here to see a fellow rookie good-time girl figure out how to gussie up a house! I was worried about the couch but if I'd thought about it, I know you're smart enough not to buy something flimsy, I shouldn't have doubted. Also those plates are so pretty! I never knew US diner china was so cute! (I'm in australia)

Carlisle is also located near 2 major highways and not far from Harrisburg, the State Capital, and roughly an hour from Lancaster and Amish country, so it's a great location for tourists.
