You made a comment recently about "haters" relative to your glasses. Two years ago, I caught a cutting edge from a Cat dozer in the face. It popped off while I was recovering the dozer from the mud with my excavator, flew through the air, and hit me right between the eyes. 7 days in the ICU. I still have my eyes, and my life, because of a $22 pair of safety glasses. (Crossfires. Not an advertisement. Just stating fact.) Let the haters hate.....And wear your glasses proudly! That blower needs to be fed more. Either deeper snow, or faster ground speed. It'll work just fine, just gotta feed it the onions! Been running several different snowblowing contraptions here in sloppy North Idaho for a couple of decades, and that is what we have found. A warning on installing carbides to your tracks. It is going to damage your pavement. Maybe not ruin it, but it will be noticeable if you spin around and drag a lot. Just like tire chains on your tractor.

For a non skid on the painted areas: we have a trick on boats, mask off the area, sand and prep for paint, spray, then, while paint still wet, sprinkle sand over the area, a large tin salt shaker works great! Let dry, brush off excess sand.

We used the same method on Coast Guard ships for non skid. However, we used black beauty which is recycled glass then a flood coat. Kept me from sliding in 40 foot seas.

Some grip tape used on skateboards or the onewheel he has would also work I think. That way it's easily removable without hurting the original paint.

@@schwuzi good tip. 3M makes a product called safety walk. Same type traction, comes in 6”x 18”ish and available on large roll. A Coast Guard 47’ used precut pieces that cost a kidney and and first born. 😂

I have basically the same skid steer. Problem is, when you have 3-4" of frozen wet snow on that leading edge of that step nothing works. It's one of those design flaws with the Cat skid steers. Also damn near impossible to get out of it when using the cat forks, your foot gets squished in there and no step to speak of.

Dude, I used to work as a mechanic on piggy back fork lifts. That pig tail you ordered costs about $75.00 to $100.00 from the factory, and you don't actually even need it, you can order the plug end, and rewire the cable you have, and spend less than $100, shipping included. you got hosed.

Here is something I learned about our “wet “ side of the Cascades the first year after I got my two stage snowblower . First clean and completely dry the whole inside of the auger and blower , then i heat it lightly with my weed burner . Then I spray all snow contact points heavily with Pam original cooling spray . Without it our typical snowmud that is similar to wet concrete will chill as it goes through the blower and shoot and make instant ice . Without it I was lucky to throw snow 15 for five minutes , after application it would throw it 35-40’ .

Silicone spray works well. Same as Pam prep, then just let dry, might work just a little better than pam, lol. I've heard that veg oil in a spray bottle works, but have never tried it.

@@GodzHammer You probably don't want to be throwing synthetic oils all over your property. Just use a spray of vegetable oil or something, the cold should keep it from getting blown out instantly.

Myer Snowplows had a siliconized paint I put on a snowplow blade in the 1970's. It worked very well.

Cody there is a modification you can do th the impeller to allow you to throw wet heavy snow with less clogging. I do this to all my customers machines I'm Minnesota when they come in. Basically you go buy a mud flap and bolt it to the impeller with the rubber taking up the gap between the impeller and the housing and it will clear the wet snow every pass it also will throw the snow about 1.5 to 2 times further. I'll be posting a video late tonight on how to do it if you want to check it out.

Snowblowers really only work when there's lots of snow. There's no auger in the chute, so without sufficient flow, what usually happens is that it gets hard-packed in there and now you have a blockage, and the auger will just spit snow right back out the front. And that's bad enough with push blowers; it'll be even worse for you, having to get out of a cabin and risk a horrible fall to clear the chute. For light work, stick to a plow, or a shovel.

As a suggestion keep a wrap handy in the cab of the unit so you can wipe the dust and dirt away from the quick connects, keeping your hydraulic system cleaner, saving you trouble down the road. Dust and dirt can and will clog up those little orifices of a hydraulic system, making it either work slow or in some cases not at all.

One suggestion, don't stand so close to the cable. You never know. I've also seen some throw a rag on the cable while pulling.. I think it's used as a safety dampener.

I got stuck in the ditch one time in a car that definitely did not belong where it was at, lol. It actually went a lot better than I would have expected. Somehow I nearly got to where I wanted to go, but there was one last hill in my way. My car stalled 3/4 the way up and when I backed up to get more speed and leverage I ended up misjudging where the road was in the rearview mirror and ended up in the ditch. There was a really nice guy with a winch that came by the next morning and helped me get out, lol.

My forklift had a slipoery spot. I masked it and sprayed some paint, then dusted with used glass bead. 2 or 3 coats of that worked great. Stilk there 6 years later. Did the brake and clutch pedals as well.

Those carbide studs will tear up your driveway real bad just something to keep in mind. That blower will be the real rig when you get a few feet of snow.

Just a little trick I used to use on heavy equipment here in PA. Clean the area that's slick, that you step on, free of paint, enough that you can crank up your welder heat and feed all the way. Then hold the stinger back snot 8-10" , pull the trigger and "spackle" weld all over that area. It's kind of like sprinkling sand in wet paint but doesn't rub off as easily. Be sure to disconnect the battery negative (maybe even check if there's a welding procedure for that thing, some heavily electronic laden pieces of equipment have a procedure to do before you weld on them so you fry anything). Then, when you're happy with how much grip you're gonna have, hit it with black undercoating, I REALLY like HUD 12, comes in a red,white and blue aerosol can from Napa for like $8 a can and it dries hard, not like most other undercoating that stays kinda soft.

I would have thought you had more experience with snow blowers :) They work fine in the slushy stuff as long as you have one that is powerful and fast enough. I don't know about that one, the auger seems a bit high off the ground; but you have to have the end of the chute pointing up and it has to be spinning fast. We built one last year for a skid-steer: It has its own electric start motor, electric clutch, and electric chute controls, and it throws the snow a good 80 feet or so if need be.

I believe me least favorite thing about the skid steer machine is a wet slippery step, skinned up shins are the start of a trying day.

I work for a home improvement store and we use a tractor tire cut into quarters and there are brackets bolted onto it, act like a squeegee in this scenario when on forklift forks. Terrifically!

Ah, cats! My Moms house had floor furnace. That cat would lay on the grate to get warmed up by the pilot light. Often the cat wasn't awaken by the burner firing up, by the time that cat fired it out, the house smelled like roast cat. Moms little dog learned the situation. The dog would hear the burner come one, and would try to get the cat to move, sometimes, that was a wasted effort. Sadly the cat, dog, and mom died by now, only memories remain. Bummer about the cost of the electrical cable, they shouldn't have been a smart azz about,it a good way to loose customers.

I too have a Caterpillar skid steer, 262 D3, and a Skid Pro snowblower. The only difference is that mine is a double auger. For mine to work properly you need to pull back on the toggle switch, not push forward. It could very well be that your auger and impeller are spinning the wrong way which is why you're not blowing a lot of snow. On mine, I only roll forward on the toggle switch if I'm trying to clear an obstruction.

I've been told that the "snow tracks" (rather than dirt or turf) work extremely well. Will push wet parking lot snow with a box/pusher. I remember studs in our car tires, definitely threw sparks & asphalt (first car had snow tires all around, & another set with studs, lol). Great on ice !!! So-so on dry...

Carbide studs work great on ice but chew up concrete like its oatmeal. If you spin studs on hard surfaces you will be able to see them for the rest of your life.

Skid steers are so useful it's insane. It makes it that much more comical that such an amazing piece of engineering won't let you open the door when the bucket is raised 6 inches.

When you blow snow, aim the chute right in front to refeed the snow. It helps clear areas where you don't wanna blow it off the side, as well as gather small amounts of snow to re-aim and blow off at the end of your run.

Just a quick note with regards to winching. It's always best to avoid side loading of your winch. Best practice is to pull inline with the vehicle if it has a bumper mounted winch. The rope either wire or synthetic will spool much more evenly and less stress on equipment. I work with winches and have seen what side loading can do as far as stacking on the drum. Looked to me like he WAS pulling inline with his winch. That’s why he looped the line around a tree, to pull the stuck vehicle sideways. Maybe I saw it wrong? Small screen and ancient eyes can cause that, sometimes. 😁

The line from the block to truck can be at an angle but it shows the winch cable coming out of winch at a severe angle.

You can get a high speed spinning brush for the skid steer. Looks like a horizontal car wash brush. Works great too. Check it out.

An old man that was visiting our church and slipped into a ditch, the preacher asked me to pull him out. I couldn’t get enough traction to pull him out with a tow line from the back. So I gave up. When a tow truck got him out the front right suspension was torn off. He demanded that I pay for his repairs. I asked how my pulling from the back had peeled his tire under his passenger door. He was adamant that I fix it. I told him he needs to slow down and he was responsible for his loss. He left and I haven’t talked to him since.

Cody, why don't you get a portable soft skinned shelter to use temporarily until you get a proper shed put up. There's no need in having that small equipment endure winter weather because of a lack of shed. They're fairly cheap and fast and easy to put up. Shelter logic makes fair stuff but tons of different brands out there.

I just put a similar winch on my truck. havent used it yet. When you used the block and it was spooling at an angle does it all bunch to one side of the spool? Did you have to unspool and respool it once finished with the pull? Thanks!

Don't stand near the winch cable when pulling. Throw your coat over it to dampen it when it snaps

Good work Mr. W. From my experience the snow needs to be a bit deeper for the auger to really grab and throw it. I think that setup will work just fine for you but time will tell. Snowblower does a much cleaner job over a plow. I think you might like it.

From a Minnesotan, the snow needs to be drier also. Cody was right when he talked about the difficulties of blowing wet sloppy snow. That’s one benefit to our cold winter temperatures. Merry Christmas!

I do have a suggestion above and beyond ignoring the EPA bollocks. Set up an aluminum car port, bolt one side to your permanent garage, tarp the sides to keep most of the elements out and store the skid steer under that.
