‘We’ve lost our vibe’: Sydney ranked as having second-worst nightlife in the world

Sky News host Chris Smith says the city of Sydney has “dropped way down” in the Global Liveability Rankings because “our nightlife no longer exists”.
The latest Time Out Index has ranked Sydney as having the second-worst night life in the world, a title Australia’s habour city has received for the second year in a row.
“We’ve lost our vibe,” Mr Smith said.

Been gone for 10 years. Living in EU and UK and all I can say is "See ya." The Australia I grew up in and partied in my 20s and 30 is now dead and gone. The Chinese can have it, and they practically do.

We know how they feel about the people who are the reasons for enjoyable places turning into a jungle all around the world. They don't allow those two which at this point they should since Western people are all for letting people destroy what was enjoyable and much safer. Can't go to malls, amusement parks, movies, restaurants and many other things here in America without a certain people turning it into a ghetto harassing or destroying it.

Yeah, I'm toying with the idea of moving to maybe Scotland or England. Nothing about Australia excites me anymore. I've effectively outgrown it. If Sydney doesn't even stimulate my mind, nothing here can. Either overpopulated coastal cities, or a dusty centre with no activity, and no future. I'm just over it.

As a Melbournian who's spend some time in Sydney, I can say that Sydney's night life was never really that great to begin with. To quote a friend, who commented as we watch 3 15yo girls dressed like hookers vomiting in the gutter, "We're not in Kansas any more, Toto".

The biggest issue is Alcohol tax. It is too high in our country to ever have a thriving nightlife. We have one of the highest alcohol taxes in the world. Lots of red tape restrictions in cities by state governments ( Perth) or poorly functioning Public transport systems to get people home at the later hours.

Sydney is boring city 😴 having experienced the rave scene late 90s and early 2000's this place is a ghost town. Not to mention the cost of living there is no value for your money. Over regulated fines for almost everything its a nanny state no wonder people are leaving the city.. European holidays are what's keeping me sane am I able let off steam for 6 or so weeks then back to the island prison

Sydney had better sort out its nightlife problem. The South by Southwest festival will be held in Sydney next October and the world's biggest hipsters will want somewhere to party after 1am. If not we'll look like hill billies and the festival will be canned for 2024.

I only moved to N.S.W because my partner lost his job and we needed to move in with father inlaw. Miss all the great parks, public transport, cleaner environment, actual toilets and drinking fountains at playgrounds Brisbane had. GPs bulk billed, not here. Though it might not be comparable because we moved from a city area to a rural one. People don't really talk to each other here. Only the oldies do. So I've been here over a year and no new friends around my age. If I was a senior I'd have plenty of friends 🤣. Though I don't miss Brisbane weather, no thanks.
