Your course needs some trail maintenance. Ruts are getting too deep, and some of those dead and fallen trees make the course too small and less trail line options. Unless you want to turn these episodes into how to recover vehicles, do something soon.

The interesting thing about this course is that just like most trails the more vehicles that go down it, the deeper the ruts, holes, and mud gets. essentially make the course harder over time 👍

one trick to open diff'd rigs most people don't know about... ride the brake pedal about 50% while giving it gas through the goopy stuff and you can force the diff to transfer power to the wheels with traction.

The better tactic with a classic range rover is to use its momentum to keep it going, he was going to slow. As soon as one wheel came off the ground he just stopped dead.

Technically that *is* a centre locking diff, just automatically (by a viscous coupling). TFL cares too much about the "omg it's going to break" narrative when it comes to Land Rovers, it's really tiring.
@thedirtlifesupreame
@thedirtlifesupreame Жыл бұрын
@@elbekko no it’s not. Anyone that has wheeled a VC vs a Diff lock knows. There’s no comparison to knowing when you are locked in. The front and rear axles are getting 50/50 power. Not sitting there trying to get the viscous oil to heat up and hope it will stop slipping. Not to mention when those VCs fail, they finally really do lock up and destroy the transfer case.

air down those tires to 12psi before tackling offroad and all issues could dissapear. Range Rovers after 1987 didnt got center diff lock. Tommy sure loves to bash the rovers. They don't all blow head gaskets. They don't all have electrical issues. 123,000 miles isn't that many for a range rover. That model year came with a viscous coupler, not a locking center diff. If it has a locking center diff It must have been installed by someone else. My 94 Range Rover with 223,000 miles has traction control on the rear only. It has a lot of advantages over Tommy's two door jeep. It can haul more people and additional gear. it rides better, on and off the road, and can tow more. Not to mention they are easier to find in the parking lot. People wave at the Rover every time I take it someplace. The Range Rover classics do require a lot of maintenance, which is almost always never done. This vehicle probably needs a radiator soon or he will have head gasket troubles.(i guess the radiator was done) If the guy brought this 95 to me, I am pretty sure I could have the back windows and the seats operating as well in a couple hours or less. That vehicle repaired with a moderate restoration would bring 30k. It would have a tough time against newer vehicles with locking diffs, sway bar disconnects, all wheel traction control and tires over 32 inches. But for a vehicle with that old of a platform they are pretty awesome. Finally I think he would have been fine had he had more experience with the rover and learned he needs some momentum. Low range 3rd gear.

Paid 3k for a 97' Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 318 Magnum and a NP242 swap with only 181k miles. Everything works and it runs incredibly smooth. EXCEPT the A/C must be out of refrigerant and the ABS doesn't work. I honestly bought a ZJ Grand Cherokee because it had the same general shape as this Range Rover does. I knew I'd never find a nice example of a Range Rover like the ZJ I got. Mine has 318Magnum V8, NP242 T-Case, Dana 44A rear axle, Dana 30 front, working limited slip rear end, and the Up Country Suspension Group what gives you a 1" suspension lift and full belly of skid plates. Inside it has 10-way power cloth seats, auto-dimming mirror, 8-speaker InfinityGold stereo, power windows, power heated mirrors, and rear defrost. Rust wise being a Minnesota car, it's not too terrible. Just gonna hit it with some rust reformer to help knock it back a bit and throw some black enamel paint over it.

Removing the air suspension results in less departure angle clearance, even with a 2-3" lift and makes the ride poor but still far better than any US truck. Next time, let some air out of the tires. Oh, that's right, some idiot removed the air suspension so you don't have the ability to have a pressure coupling to air the tires back up. Doh! The turning circle is good for a 4x4 but can be even better if you install 1" or even just 1/2" spacers just on the front wheels. It improves the Ackerman effect and reduces the turning circle significantly. Oh, and next time get some real mud tires, not the Mickey Thompson desert style tires that make a lot of noise on the highway but don't work very well in mud. Narrower OEM steelies with real mudder tires and air suspension raised up would not find that course very challenging. The British know mud. We have a lot of it. Oh, and a better 'spotter' would helped too. A couple of times he gave some bad advice that resulted in the front wheels sliding instead of rolling, slowing forward progress and resulting in the wheels digging deeper, making further efforts even worse. Besides that, a good video.that demonstrates how a 25 year old Range Rover that has not been kept up can still mix it up with newer US trucks and would be even better without the 'improvements' that don't help mush, if at all.
