The Metro Tunnel team is doing a great job to deliver this new line. It'll be very interesting to see how the turn up and go rail service will affect the Sunshine transport superhub

Is metro tunnel only being built to service Sunbury, Pakenham and cranbourne ?

Yes, and the airport line when it opens. However it will create room for more trains on other lines. By taking Sunbury out of the Northern group (yellow line) city loop tunnel, there will be more space for Craigieburn and Upfield trains

Not looking forward to have to change trains considering my usually direct train is no longer going through the city loop. Are there really more people travelling from Sunbury to Pakenham than the city loop???

i believe stations like town hall/flinders and state library/melb central will be connected underground, so you’ll still have a direct access into those without having to go all the way up the escalator and crossing the road etc

if only there was an extensive network of trams that could transport you from town hall/state library stations to the exact destination you need to get to in the city...

Actually, do you know what? All this tunnel system will be great, until some dumb trespasser brings the entire tunnel to a complete halt.

Most of the new stations have screen doors. But I guess that doesn't necessarily help for the topside stations near the tunnel exit.

Thanks team. Can't wait till you rebuild Gardenvale station where the gaps in the platform are big enough to slide a pram through and the ramp to access the platform is steep enough for Musk to use for SpaceX launches. How someone in a wheelchair could ever get up it is hard to imagine. Less fancy lights and architectural features there could be invested in rebuilding those stations that are dangerous, in atrocious condition and should be barred from use by worksafe

It's all so very fancy, so much nicer than the ugly duckling sky rail, what were they thinking? Make sure you plan for limited express bypassing Arden. I've been scratching my head wondering where all the passengers are going to come from. Maybe in a decade?

Do you know what the sky rail is for? It's a cheaper solution for removing the level crossings. Those are the real ugly things. With those gone, it frees up traffic.
