What "we" don't account for is that if wages are "Low", but the COST of LIVING is lower still, the "Quality of life" is HIGHER. Your money goes further. Also, it's not just within the factory. Travelling 3 hours to see the family twice each month doesn't account for the fact that the journey would be by High Speed Train, so is a LONG distance, and Within Budget due to the low fares. Try that in .... let's say the UK? The fare would make the trip impractical.

Yeah, for a western owned company in China. Let's see a video of a Chinese owned business in China. The Chinese workers don't get paid overtime, work six days a week for 10 hours, and can be summarily fired without notice or compensation. There are no worker rights, no labor unions, no redress, and no protection from the CCP from the bosses. The icing on the cake is, if you are over 35 they don't have to hire you as there are no anti-discrimination laws.

Most of the factories were built in the Southern side of China initially , close to the Seaports . Workers were coming from the middle & western provinces . Economy in the inner provinces have improved a lot in recent years and factories in Southern provinces are facing labor shortages . Factories in China provide food and accommodation to make sure the workers concentrate on work. They do not need to think of anything else when they are at work. Hence, a lot of rural villages will come to cities to work so they can send money back. This place is great as they provide recreational facilities too

Those are CNC lathes ...$300,000usd dollar machines ! In the QC room you see a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), normally used as a first off in a production run or after a tool change before they make a zillion of them. The other one is a automated optical comparator. The second car is a NIO one of the premium EV brands in China and even Europe now, the battery can be swapped in less than 5 minutes at a charging station, so no need waiting for charging the battery.

There are reasons why companies provide accommodation and meals for workers which people in the west are not aware off. 1 As workers come from the rural surroundings it is better and easier to provide accommodation and meals. 2 It cuts travel time to get to work. Workers get more rest and do less household chores. 3 This allows the company to quickly ramp up production when required by using overtime work. Since travel time is reduced to almost nil workers can do more O/T. 4 Since accommodation and meals are provided workers are happy to get lower pay. A win-win for both boss and employees! In the west travel time, home chores, meal preparation, grocery shopping means time left for work is reduced. It also means workers need higher salaries. The companies have to employ cooks etc but savings come from bulk purchasing better rested workers!

I worked in a garment factory in Hui Yang county Canton in the late 1980s to late 1990s. At that time there were really many workers that worked long hours, but it was just because we wanted to work longer hours. 90% of the workers like myself were from other provinces far away like Sichuan, Hunan... Rather than staying in the dormitories doing nothing we preferred to work an extra one or two hours to earn more money to bring home. Of course, it depended whether it was the high production season, otherwise, even we asked for extra hours work there was no. Also, at that time the transportation was not like now, we usually went home once a year during Chinese New Year and we were all given a whole month holidays. No full pay but with subsidiary which was given to us when we came back to the factory after the holidays - that's how factories wanted to encourage the workers to come back.

@@lophiz1945 It's so simple but you can't understand it, China has 1.4 billion people, those who want to leave the country is less than 0.1%. who are them? most of them called failed people. they run the small business like the restaurant, travel agent, hotel. but during 3 years lock-down. their business was collapsed due to people won't eat outside or travel. and these people are in debt as they loan money from bank or friend. as long as they enter US illegally, they don't need pay the money to the bank. I believe every country has the same issue with China during the epidemic time frame. keep in mind every year China has more than 100M people do international travel, most of them come back to China.

As many trade experts have said even if the West tried very hard to shift manufacturing back home or near shoring, it will ultimately come back to China. Tariffs is a no brainer and will not work. It's been a culture in China, for many years, to provide accommodation for workers, as sometimes people have to travel vast distances to find work. My wife was around during the Cultural Revolution and when she finished her spell of countryside hard labour, she worked as a surgeon in a hospital, with free accommodation, with a salary of around 100 yuan a month.

When you walked onto the factory floor and Reanne mentioned the smell, I had a flashback. I started my working life in the Drawing Office of a company making Optical devices in London. I worked right next to the factory floor and the "scent" of machine tool lubricant is still in my "data bank" 45 years later

Thank you appreciate it. We always just say what we see. This particular factory invited us in, they have nothing to hide. We went in with an open mind and to be honest it all seemed rather pleasant. This sort of Vlog has not been done a lot especially by similar creators in our niche. Moving forward we can say we did enjoy this. And given the opportunity we would like to do more factories but our true love is walking around new cities eating street food and that of course will never change

There are few reasons why western countries the governments don't want their citizens to visit China. Especially the U$A. 1st to see all the Chinese super infrastructures. 2nd how China is able to keep the public areas so clean, green and organized. 3th why China is so safe even for foreigners. 4th. How Chinese education system is able to educate the people with such huge population to be so disciplined. If those western countries people visit China and see all these, they will realize how useless and incompetent their governments are compared to the Chinese government. With so much taxes they're paying, yet their useless governments are not able to provide them the same infrastructures, cleanliness and safety to the people. That is why their governments and government controlled media keep lying to them about how bad China is. How undeveloped China is and advises the people not to visit China. The governments do not want the people to see the real China and compare.

pretty standard factory in China. I had a bubble tea shop in wuhan before 2020, I provided an apartment and lunch and dinner for my employees. They were from rural areas.

Yes, it was not mentioned in the video because they were focusing on the factory. Restaurant staff, some large stores, government manual labor workers, construction workers, hotel staff, many workers not just factory workers are housed and provided free meals. The workers are not forced to be housed, it's their choice. If they choose not to their pay is a little bit higher.

This is just one of the ordinary small and medium-sized enterprises in China. There are probably hundreds of thousands of factories of this size in China. In Guangdong Province alone, there are 130,000 enterprises engaged in manufacturing export trade. Guangdong Province is the province with the most manufacturing factories in China. Shenzhen, where you are, belongs to Guangdong Province. DJI drone factory, BYD electric car factory, Huawei R&D headquarters, etc. are all in Shenzhen。

Every factories I have been to, it's mandatory across the board, food and accomodations are provided. No one will go work at these factories if none of these are provided. Many do have more basic leisure facilities such as a basketball court and such though. This one in the video, is a far bigger factory than most I have seen, they probabl;y have more resources to accomodate their workers. But generally you will see a basketball court, a canteen and accomodation for their workers.
