7:20 Context on this joke: The Monsters Inc ride that they’re on in this clip was originally a different ride called Superstar Limo, which had you zoom through Hollywood in a limo and pass by animatronics of various celebrities. However, due to the poorly-timed death of Princess Diana (who died in a speeding limo crash), they had to severely slow down the pace of the ride until it turned into an even worse version of It’s a Small World, and it soon became everyone’s least favorite Disneyland attraction (except for then-CEO Michael Eisner, which is the only reason the revised slower version even launched). A few years later, they rebranded the entire ride as a Monsters Inc. ride, and to save money, just hid most of the celebrity animatronics inside anonymous hazmat suits!

8:44 Yes! My parents love to bring up the time they were walking through the shopping area of New Orleans Square and went right past Dr. Facilier just leaning against a wall in the shadows. They stopped, said “wait a minute”, turned to look, and he gave them the perfect side-eyed glance. It was pitch perfect for the character (or so I’m told, I don’t actually remember this).

There's something inherently nice to be in a recreation of a world you've seen in a cartoon. Radiator Springs is just cartoony enough and full of character by itself that it's interesting to see what details they elaborate on. You're conclusion is 100% spot on, us creatives simply want to create. We take every opportunity, every shitty situation, to problem solve a weird wacky fun solution. Cause it's all we want to do, we crave and obsess over it. Some of us can't do anything else. The fact the still to this day artists and creatives alike are shafted at every turn is not only a really depressing thing, but a reason why at times we just take whatever we can get lol.

Great video as always; I had to pause at the Doug shot *_and_* at Josh Gad openly admitting his own failures on national TV as for Disney the company, it just frustrates me that they keep holding everyone & every _thing_ to the fire (from the animators to the archivists to the Park actors, not even the big names are out of the fire-fights from what I can see) and it stinks because it keeps talented people from doing their work to the best of their ability at the end of the day. Such is the way of Hollywood these days, I guess. Shame.

Performance is a big thing passed down from my parents for sure. Dad was an actor so it kind of became the thing we both got into. And I'll tell you this- my sister called it long before I said a word probably because of those instincts. When Chapek came out onto that screen, awkwardly trying to make conversation to Mickey and making everyone cringe, she turned to me and said 'Oh no way. They won't let that be thing. He's done.' She was right!

So how come you took down the old epic mickey documentary again? I really liked how all encompassing it was and how much history it covered.
@BMask2 жыл бұрын
Honestly a number of reasons. Some of things I said weren't entirely correct, the footage was often from stuff that could be easily flagged by copyright bots and started taking up more of the video than any of the points I was adding myself, the way it was edited and put together didn't really help me establish my newer content, and most of all I hinged it around my excitement for a game that in the end I didn't actually think was very well made. I've gone through bits of it since and I don't think people are missing much as the information is out there in way better forms, and, hopefully, I feel like I'll touch on lots of aspects of it in future videos. Glad I did it cause it got me here, but can't really justify it staying up online.

Also, love how you went to Avengers Campus dressed as Reed Richards years before his proper MCU introduction and his eventual walk-around park counterpart. And while I understand your gripes about Phase 4, I personally I feel that there’s been far more good than otherwise. While Iger isn’t perfect by any stretch, his successes are worth praising and I feel that over the next 2 years, he’ll find a better successor than Bob Cheapskate. As long as nothing interferes with the new deal Disney has with the BBC to have Doctor Who on D+, I’m far more hopeful for Disney’s future (especially if they scale back their live-action remakes, but let’s face it, that one is, for lack of a better term, wishful thinking).

I'm kind of out of the loop, how did Bob Iger run Disney back then and why are people so enthused by his return?
@BMask2 жыл бұрын
Iger was esentially one of Disney's more stable execs. Eisner began to lose his way after the death of his fellow CEO Frank Wells and a falling out with head of animation Jeffrey Katzenberg. Bob didn't have these hang ups and was very interested in progress and expansion, recognising the impact of newer properties and realising they should capitalise on those to maximise audience interest. He bought up all those companies, he made all these calls to make brand identity a huge thing at the parks, and he negotiated with the media and political parties extremely well to get what he wanted. Now there are some troubling things about this approach that had many sceptical of his abilities and they're still things many are concerned about, he's the reason Disney is as huge as it is right now- but when Chapek came aboard, it also became clear how good he was at actually making the company function, making the people there enjoy their work and recognising the customers voice. There are stories, genuine stories, about his interest in his employees, the parks, and time he would make for everything to keep it running. I wouldn't call myself an Iger fan, but I now better recognise his strengths against everything Chapek failed at miserably, and it's made me understand what qualities I would hope to find in whoever he eventually names as his successor.
