Even w/ those chimney braces, snow load against the stove pipe is going to be a problem. I see a few other folks have already commented on this, so just adding my advice to theirs. Build yourself what is called a "cricket" on the backside of the chimney vent that will channel snow away and to either side of the pipe. I'd advise a fairly steep slope, but really any amount of slope will work. What you want is a little ridge line that runs from the roof behind the chimney to the center of the chimney and a little roof sloping perpendicular to the main roof slope, creating valleys to each side where the cricket roof slope meets the main roof slope and a little gable end up against the back side of the chimney. Once in place, gravity acting on the snow over the main roof slope will pull the snow down and around thru the valleys of the cricket and the ridge of the cricket will keep the snow sliding down into the valleys as well, relieving load on the chimney itself. I'd suggest talking it over with your contractor, because if the cricket isn't built/installed correctly (with proper flashing, etc), water from rain/snow melt/ice could accumulate under the cricket roof structure and create big issues with the underlying roofing material and roof sheathing. Great video, as always! You two have really made a lot of progress this year on getting your homestead closer to completion!

I have a snow break for it, just haven't installed it yet.

Don't forget to add snow breaks above the chimney so it does not get sheared off when the snow slides off the roof this winter. Do not just rely on Chimney straps. Another one of our KZbin group members had this problem a few years ago.

Yep I have one, just haven't had a chance to install it yet. Soon. Thanks.

Good idea to put in those pads and future cover in now, it will help during the winter months. You still need to put in some type of weeping tile or channels for all that water in the spring, fall, and winter months. Jazz is sure getting big, what a cutie she is. A suggestion on the roof, you may want to see about adding some snow stops.

We're still loving you 2! We have been following you every since I was looking for ideas on installing solar panels on our 2017 GD 303rls. You gave me the nerve to put holes in my roof!! Since then, we took it to Alaska in 2022 for 3 months. Thanks for all you do!!

Hello, I might have missed this, but are you thinking about setting up a storage area above your new ceiling in the center of the barn dominium? Looks like there's a lot of open area with good head clearance up there.
@MountainBeachesАй бұрын
There is room up there, but it’s WAY UP HIGH. we plan to have storage above the apartment ceiling.

Off-grid is relatively easy until you get animals and have to deal with Winter low-solar coverage. Wishing you all well.
