We WAITED an HOUR for our MEALS and told "YOU CAN'T FILM THE FOOD" that we PAID FOR! UNACCEPTABLE?

The MacMaster, his daughter Paige and JB visit Maxey's Farm Shop, a new local business for breakfast, the food took over an hour to come and we were told that we couldn't film the produce or our breakfast that we paid for. That aside, we won't hold that against our review as they have some amazing produce and food on offer and one of the best Farm Shops we have been to. Whenever there is a conversation about "You can't film here" or "You can't film me", it always becomes obvious that very few people are actually aware of what the law really is in the UK. I have dabbled with stock photography (mostly editorial) and looked into this closely. The stock photographer communities are generally very well clued up and informed about where and what can be photographed. The law is actually very simple. Anyone can photograph or film anything which can be seen from a public place. The problem is, very few people actually understand exactly what constitutes a public place. For example, shopping centres are often not legal public places. They are privately owned property where the public can visit. Shopping centres such as Meadowhell usually won't tolerate any obvious photography or filming. Surprisingly, there are many other places which fall under the same privately owned property classification. A number of years ago, I was correctly moved on by security at the fully pedestrianised but outdoor section of Vicar Lane in Chesterfield. There is of course the argument that people can expect a right to privacy. However, whilst that is true on private property, it doesn't apply in public places. So, it is perfectly legal to film or photograph people walking on public footpaths or in public parks. There would be an exception though if one was standing on a public footpath and using a super zoom lens to film through residential house windows, where people WOULD have a reasonable expectation of privacy. The Black Belt Barrister has created a number of videos on just these subjects and make for excellent viewing. However, there is a point at which both morals and sensibility should play a part. For instance, I would never, ever film children playing in a park, even though it would be legal to do so. I do feel that the "auditors" who are deliberately going out of their way to film sensitive places such as police stations and power plants are not doing anyone any favours and I do avoid their channels. Filming youtube reviews of restaurants and take aways though, why on earth would any business want to request a youtuber to not film their products? To me, that sets immediate alarm bells ringing that they've got something to hide! Video and photos of all kinds of businesses are a staple of not just youtube, but google, booking, tripadvisor and dozens more. I do think that in this case, you've done the right thing, Lee, by publishing this video and giving a balanced, honest report of your experience at this place! Sadly, in this instance, if I was in that area for any reason, I would definitely avoid eating at this place simply because of their poor, jobsworth attitude.

Not everyone knows this but Farm Shop is actually Latin for expensive place and I'm having a ride over to the ultimate Farm Shop tomorrow the Chatsworth Farm Shop and cafe I have been a number of times before it's not cheap but they don't sell crap. I'm thinking a 7 out of 10 for your breakfast looked fairly average fare to me but it's good that you got the butter separate for your toast I really can't see the point it them silly little containers for your baked beans I think there used so they can't give you too many beans after all have you seen the price of them these days.

Must be a generational thing with ordering from apps because I'd much rather sit down and order my food/drink than have to mess about queuing up and risking my order being taken down wrong because of "human error". Didn’t really think this is worth £42 ,One hour late , my partner and I were out at a local pub we ordered food they come across apologised as there was a delay on the food order she gave us complimentary drinks 🍺 because of the delay

The only time I waited an hour for food was when my sister and I went through Checkpoint Charlie in West Berlin to pop over into East Berlin for a few hours. This was in the 1970s when the Wall was still very much in place. We had lunch in a restaurant on the Alexanderplatz. When our lunch eventually came, it was very good. The price was ridiculously cheap because we paid in Ostmarks. The breakfasts you had looked better, more appetising, than those at the Dog and Duck. So Paige got TWO hash browns, great! I love a hash brown for breakfast. Of course they belong at breakfast time. Also, nothing wrong with fried potatoes. I'll eat them, too. I would never order scrambled egg in a restaurant. It takes a lot of practice to make them just the way I like it. I don't mind creamy scrambled eggs, but I would prefer to cook them myself. The price though was as expensive as the other place, too expensive for me. But for someone who had asked Lee not to film the food, we certainly got a good eyeful anyway! Too many people nowadays are fearful of litigation. This is the reason for that rather extreme mindset. As for ordering on an app, I don't even use the touchscreens at McDonald's. I go up to the counter. And who knows when those screens were last wiped down?

What you filmed in the store everything looked immaculate, in order and inviting to purchase. Looked like someone who arranged everything has OCD in a good way so maybe that transfers to the food and they want everything perfect! They advertised for all kinds of staff so since they just opened on the 11th and this is the 14th and they were busy I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Would be interesting to know the reason behind the "no filming" order. The prices didn't look unreasonable for the location and quality food items but preparation was questionable. Well I'm in the USA so can't visit either place but wish there were similar establishments near me. The one nearest me doesn't come close and I live in a semi countryside suburban area so consider yourselves fortunate. Nice seeing JB and Paige and the wee ones head again😊

Hi. Lee we go to Maxy' s farm shop sometimes for potatoes & veg. Didn't know they had a new kitchen tea room, must try. Waiting for one hour is a bit long!!!!! Can't understand this not wanting you to film very strange and it's not a crime, besides they should appreciate advertising their business. I operate a small sales business and have been for three and half years and took off more last year and only recently ordered some stickers advertising my small business and stick them anywhere I go and helps. Agree with supporting local businesses, but is also convenient going to the others and I do a bit of both. I sometimes use apps, but not always and I used the self serve checkouts as in the past suffered social awkwardness for a time and getting over it now in some ways with help of channels like yours, but although I use the self serve, I don't like them putting people out of work. Farm shops been there for ages and apparently won awards. Tbh I went a while back to the shop and it wasn’t all that. Knowing that there is a cafe there makes me really want to go back and definitely will now. Not keen on waiting for an hour, me mam would have been up after 20 mins asking where the food was😂 It didn’t look amazing for the price but good enough, frozen hash browns and tinned beans for that price? Nope. I have bought sausage and bacon from that shop and its funny now, the sausage was great but the bacon had little taste so matches. thanks for letting us know they have a cafe. Filming? Well at least you filmed the breakfast for us, I admit sometimes it can be annoying but this was a good video 😂❤

I am right there with you. I hate apps and self server. All I hear is all these people are out of work then they want me to order my food with an app. Are they going to give me 33% discount for doing their job? NO The scrambled eggs are done in the French style (small curd and wet) did they ask how you liked your eggs? They need to add a little vinegar to their poaching water to help hold the eggs shape better and also the poached eggs were over cooked. An hour wait for breakfast is really unacceptable. Being that I am a retired chef I can tell you that is way too long and I would have had a fit if one of my line cooks would have put poached eggs on a plate that looked that bad. Also for that money you had to walk up to a counter to order? They don't have a wait staff to work the front of the house? As far as the filming goes they are worried of bad PR. But that is something they should except. It's easy to look at your own food and say it's great, but it's only great when others tell you it is. You have to know what is wrong in order to fix it. When I was still working many of the resorts I worked at had staff that would contact people who left critical reviews. The Sou chefs (me) would also be asked to look and many of these reviews and we would make changes to help correct many of these seen issues. You also have to thank the people that point out your short coming as in the end they can be of great benefit to your business. If they are afraid for someone to film their food you must ask yourself why?

We went to The China Buffet in Blackpool not long after lockdown and you could only order by app. An utter disaster. My wife got most of what she ordered eventually, but I ended up with 2 bowls of seaweed and nothing else. Thankfully it's closed now. Shocking

I think I preferred the last farm shop you visited to this one, though the beans were better here (put them on the plate) but still no tinned tomatoes, the sausages looked ok also. I didn't really like the decor in the cafe, not very country farm shop looking.

An hour's wait for an absolute bog standard fry-up in a practically empty aircraft hangar of a restaurant? Bacon - no fat, no flavour. Being a new venue is zero excuse - that's when they should be trying their hardest to build up a positive reputation, like any new business. And a fry-up is hardly culinary rocket science. And the best part of 50 squid for three for the privilege? I think this was a very generous review, but thanks for saving me from a wasted visit should I ever be in the area. Also I think the refusal to film was rude, considering you were offering to potentially ptomote a new business; it looks like a mediocre, over-priced craphole anyway; they should have been glad of the relatively positive review. Today 16/5/2023 we went to Olympus Fish and Chips restaurant I ordered 2️⃣ Bacon Barmcakes I had Decaf Americano my wife had tea But they forgot about us so I complain where are food then after a while the food came and they bought free chips after that I asked for another coffee that was free also I had ordered mint choc chip 1 scoop my wife had Bubblegum ice cream 1 scoop there was more than 1 scoop and they apologies for late with the food cost £23

You're wrong about self checkout and ordering from an app. Ordering from an app not only ensures that your order is correct, it also provides proof as to how long it took to get served. In the case of this restaurant, if the app doesn't provide enough information in the app, that's on them. If you use an app at any of the fast food places, not only will the food be cheaper, it comes out faster and you accumulate rewards points. You're essentially throwing money away if you don't use the app. In terms of retail establishments, first, get used to the idea because that is the future, like it or not. Also, again, checkout is faster through self checkout, it's much less of an hassle and if the retail place has a scanning wand, you don't even need to take things out of your cart to check out. Here in the US, we have several supermarkets that you can take a scanning wand with you as you shop and you scan as you go. When you're done, all you do is swipe your credit card or Apple watch or cell phone and you're done. In this review, it looks like the chef prepared the scrambled eggs the way Gordon Ramsey serves his scrambled eggs. They come out like a pudding. I think it's awful. I prefer my scrambled eggs to actually look like scrambled eggs.

No excuses for unreasonable delays. You have test days before opening. Would have walked out no filming and price is excessive. 4 for me as some elements looked OK.

I think it's very strange that the owner apparently does not allow people to film the produce. It's not as if it's some sort of secret site. In fact, I'm sure they could do with all the publicity they can muster. Having said that, though, I thought the food looks good. I'm 59 years old and I have no problem using apps to purchase food via a menu. Even so, it's a way of doing things which appeared during the pandemic. However, I do think it's a cost-cutting exercise and some places do it far better than others. My main criticism is that lots of businesses seem to be using apps to take the service out of service industries. That can't be right, can it?
